The Kybalion by The Three Initiates Pdf

The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece is a book originally published in 1908 by New Thought author William Walker Atkinson under the pseudonym “The Three Initiates”. This book is not exactly The Kybalion itself, it is more of a critical interpretation by Atkinson on hermetic philosophy. As such, it should be read with this in mind that it is not an authoritative hermetic text, but one only dedicated to Hermes Trismegistus. The Kybalion presents seven universal principles it proposes to be the Severn Hermetic Principles: Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender. These principles are essentially explications of cycles, and before these principles is the notion of the primacy of mind as the cause of All (philosophical mentalism). This idea of mentalism is inspired by what is written about the Mind in The Hermetica. Coinciding with Spiritualism, New Thought, and Theosophy, the book became very popular in New Age movements, particularly with its notion of spiritual and mental alchemy. The Kybalion is a text which must be read with this in mind, while it is an interpretation of hermetic philosophy, it is in part still a relic of its time. Its influence cannot be understated, and the need to read it critically cannot be overstated.

The Kybalion is a study of basic hermetic teachings that outline an ageless wisdom. In ancient times these teachings were not understood by the lay person, but were readily understood by students, after the axioms and principles had been explained and exemplified by the Hermetic Initiates and Masters to their Neophytes.

Kybalion. Illustrated by Three Initiates Pdf

The Kybalion is a book originally published in 1908 by "Three Initiates" (often identified as the New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson, 1862–1932) that purports to convey the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. While it shares with ancient and medieval Hermetic texts a number of traits such as philosophical mentalism, the concept of 'as above, so below', and the idea that everything consists of gendered polar opposites, as a whole it is more indebted to the ideas of modern occultist authors, especially those of the New Thought movement to which Atkinson belonged. A modern Hermetic tract, it has been widely influential in New Age circles since the twentieth century.

The Kybalion by Three Initiates Pdf

The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece - Three Initiates - The purpose of this work is not the enunciation of any special philosophy or doctrine, but rather is to give to the students a statement of the Truth that will serve to reconcile the many bits of occult knowledge that they may have acquired, but which are apparently opposed to each other and which often serve to discourage and disgust the beginner in the study. Our intent is not to erect a new Temple of Knowledge, but rather to place in the hands of the student a Master-Key with which he may open the many inner doors in the Temple of Mystery through the main portals he has already entered. - From the land of the Ganges many advanced occultists wandered to the land of Egypt, and sat at the feet of the Master. From him they obtained the Master-Key which explained and reconciled their divergent views, and thus the Secret Doctrine was firmly established. - In this little work we have endeavored to give you an idea of the fundamental teachings of The Kybalion, striving to give you the working Principles, leaving you to apply therm yourselves, rather than attempting to work out the teaching in detail. If you are a true student, you will be able to work out and apply these Principles. - It is speculated that The Kybalion was authored by William Walker Atkinson, either alone or with others.
