Pressure Oscillation in Biomedical Diagnostics and Therapy by Ahmed Al-Jumaily,Lulu Wang Pdf

Complete and comprehensive reference on the principles of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques using pressure oscillation Pressure Oscillation in Biomedical Diagnostics and Therapy presents key findings in imaging, diagnostics, and therapies using high and low frequency pressure waves in a concise and easy-to-understand way, focusing primarily on the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems that utilize acoustics (mechanical wave motion). The work provides basic background in relevant acoustic theory as well as specific technical information associated with modern medical applications. Low frequency acoustics (pressure oscillation) and some aspects of ultrasound (radiation force) are also reviewed. The principles in the work can be extended to include other areas relating to materials and metal diagnostics. To allow for maximum reader comprehension regardless of current expertise on the subject, each chapter includes a brief history, current developments, and practical applications of the topic covered within. Furthermore, all chapters are based on engineering and physiological principles to deliver practical technologies. Sample topics covered in the work include: Fundamental principles of pressure oscillation (PO), discussing the basic principles of pressure oscillation and how they can be formulated into mathematical equations PO in imaging techniques, discussing the basic principles of converting pressure oscillation to a tool in biomedical imaging Lung mechanics, discussing how each part of the lung is associated with various diseases and how PO can target these parts Asthma, discussing the basic concepts of asthma, the importance of airway smooth muscle (ASM), and dynamic behavior of ASM Pressure Oscillation in Biomedical Diagnostics and Therapy links pressure oscillation (PO) and biomedical diagnostics and therapy for scholars and practitioners. It is an essential resource for all professionals who wish to be on the cutting edge of treating lung diseases such as obstructive sleep apnea, asthma, and respiratory distress syndrome.

Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction - E-Book by Irina Szmelskyj,Lianne Aquilina Pdf

The management of infertility using acupuncture is an expanding area of practice and one which is frequently rewarding for TCM acupuncture practitioners. Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction has been specially prepared to meet the growing demand for information in this area and draws upon 20 years combined experience of the authors together with the latest evidence from both orthodox medicine and TCM. Richly illustrated and clearly written throughout, the book takes the reader through the anatomy and physiology of reproductive medicine (from both an orthodox and TCM perspective) and explains the underlying basis of orthodox medical fertility tests and investigations. The volume then explores the pathology and aetiology of TCM syndromes and shows how common fertility-related conditions, such as endometriosis and male factor infertility, affect Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) success rates. It explains in great detail how to take a reproductive medical history and successfully diagnose TCM syndromes. Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction also provides guidelines on how to regulate the menstrual cycle in preparation for IVF treatment and shows how lifestyle can affect fertility and ART success rates. Placing a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of patient care, Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction contains an abundance of case history templates, algorithmic acupuncture treatment pathways and patient fact sheets and will be ideal for all acupuncture practitioners working in this field. "A must have for the bookshelf of any acupuncturist who is ever called upon to treat fertility issues - if you have room for one book this surely must be it." Reviewed by The Acupuncture Fertility Centre March 2015 "Practitioners of all levels of experience and TCM students should find it compelling reading and an invaluable companion to their learning." Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by Wade H. Shafer Pdf

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 34 (thesis year 1989) a total of 13,377 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 184 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 34 reports theses submitted in 1989, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Complementary Therapies for the Contemporary Healthcare by Marcelo Saad,Roberta De Medeiros Pdf

Complementary therapies (CTs) are practices, products or systems for health that are outside the domain of conventional medicine (also called Western or allopathic medicine), used either to treat illnesses or to promote health and well-being. Defining CTs is difficult, because the field is very broad and constantly changing. The list of what is considered CT changes continually, and therapies whose safety and effectiveness are demonstrated may become part of conventional medicine. We hope the information from the present book can collaborate in some manner with the ongoing process of evolution of the paradigms related to concepts of health, disease and healing.
