Framley Parsonage (Annotated & Illustrated) by Anthony Anthony Trollope Pdf

Framley Parsonage is the fourth novel in Anthony Trollope's series known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire. It was first published in serial form in the Cornhill Magazine in 1860, then in book form in 1861. The hero of Framley Parsonage, Mark Robarts, is a young vicar, settled in the village of Framley in Barsetshire with his wife and children. The living has come into his hands through Lady Lufton, the mother of his childhood friend Ludovic, Lord Lufton. Mark has ambitions to further his career and begins to seek connections in the county's high society. He is soon preyed upon by local Whig Member of Parliament Mr Sowerby to guarantee a substantial loan, which Mark in a moment of weakness agrees to do, even though he does not have the means and knows Sowerby to be a notorious debtor. The consequences of this blunder play a major role in the plot, with Mark eventually being publicly humiliated when bailiffs arrive and begin to take an inventory of the Robarts' furniture. At the last moment, Lord Lufton forces a loan on the reluctant Mark. Another plot line deals with the romance between Mark's sister Lucy and Lord Lufton. The couple are deeply in love and the young man proposes, but Lady Lufton is against the marriage.

The Last Chronicle of Barset, Vol. 3 (Classic Reprint) by Anthony Trollope Pdf

Excerpt from The Last Chronicle of Barset, Vol. 3 He can hardly be staying there, said Mrs. Grantly because I know that he is so very busy at home. The business at home of which the major's mother was speaking was his projected moving from Cosby Lodge, a subject which was also very odious to the archdeacon. He did not wish his son to move from Cosby Lodge. He could not endure the idea that his son Should be known throughout the county to be giving up a resi dence because he could not afford to keep it. The archdeacon could have afforded to keep up two Cosby Lodges for his son, and would have been well pleased to do so, if only his son would not misbehave against him so shamefully! He could not bear that his son Should be punished, Openly, before the eyes of all Bar setshire. Indeed, he did not wish that his son should be punished at all. He Simply desired that his son should recognise his father's power to inflict punish ment. It would be henbane to Archdeacon Grantly to have a poor son, - a son living at Pau, - among Frenchmen, - because he could not afford to live in England! Why had the archdeacon been careful of his money, adding house to house and field to field? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
