When this declaration was written, America was resisting the despotism of a British king who, how ever, was not upheld-by his subjects; but it is just as applicable to-day when we defend these principles against the onslaught of a despot who is sustained by military masses if not by most Of his people. Our dealings with Cuba, with China, with the Philippines, and with Mexico; prove to all the world that this declaration is vital in our life as a nation.
