Spomenik Monument Database by Donald Niebyl Pdf

Spomenik - the Serbo-Croat/Slovenian word for monument - refers to the pioneering abstract memorials built in Josip Tito's Yugoslavia between the 1960s and the 1990s, marking the horror of occupation by Axis forces and the triumph of their defeat during World War II. Through these imaginative creations, a forward-looking socialist society, free of ethnic tensions, was envisaged. This publication brings together more than 80 examples of these stunning brutalist monuments. Each has been extensively photographed and researched by the author to make this book the most comprehensive survey available of this obscure and fascinating architectural phenomenon. A fold-out map on the reverse of the dust jacket shows the exact location of each spomenik using GPS coordinates.

Understanding Global Poverty by Serena Cosgrove,Benjamin Curtis Pdf

Understanding Global Poverty introduces students to the study and analysis of poverty, helping them to understand why it is pervasive across human societies, and how it can be reduced through proven policy solutions. The book uses the capabilities and human development approach to foreground the human aspects of poverty, keeping the voices, experiences, and needs of the world’s poor central to the analysis. Starting with definitions and measurement, the book goes on to explore the causes of poverty and how poverty reduction programs and policy have responded in practice. The book also reflects on the ethics of why we should work to reduce poverty and what actions readers themselves can take. This new edition has been revised and updated throughout, featuring: • a new chapter on migration and refugees • additional international examples, including material on Mexico, Covid-19 in global perspective, and South–South development initiatives • information on careers in international development • insights into how various forms of social difference, including race, ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality relate to poverty Fully interdisciplinary in approach, the book is also supplemented with case studies, discussion questions, and further reading suggestions in order to support learning. Perfect as an introductory textbook for students across sociology, global development, political science, anthropology, public health, and economics, Understanding Global Poverty will also be a valuable resource to policy makers and development practitioners.

Media Freedom and Pluralism by Beata Klimkiewicz Pdf

Addresses a critical analysis of major media policies in the European Union and Council of Europe at the period of profound changes affecting both media environments and use, as well as the logic of media policy-making and reconfiguration of traditional regulatory models. The analytical problem-related approach seems to better reflect a media policy process as an interrelated part of European integration, formation of European citizenship, and exercise of communication rights within the European communicative space. The question of normative expectations is to be compared in this case with media policy rationales, mechanisms of implementation (transposing rules from EU to national levels), and outcomes.

FEB 1944 EL SHATT EGYPT NOV 1948 by Rusko Matuli? Pdf

In the beginning of this short memoir, mention is made of certain publications and the broadcast media interpretation of events in WWII refugee camps in Egypt. These are so replete with propaganda from 'Uncle Joe' period that it is impossible to overlook them. That is why this little book started. Now, there is additional indication that very little has changed through past decades. In Podgara on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia, on 12 April 2014, there was a celebration for the 70th anniversary of the refugee community in Egypt. the president of Croatia delivered an appropriate address noting that his father was an escort for the refugees! In one of press reports of these festivities it is noted that this refugee camp was closed in March 1946.But in truth, the refugees outside of Communist Party reach were there till November 1948, when the camp closed and all the remaining inmates were moved to Italy.
