The Epistle of Jude by Pastor Melissa Scott Pdf

The Epistle of Jude is often overlooked because it is one of the shortest books in the Bible. Yet its author, a half-brother of Jesus Christ, manages in a mere 25 verses to encapsulate one of the major themes of the entire Bible: the danger of apostasy. Jude sounds a warning against falling away from God, whether through unbelief, pride, or sheer complacency. In Jude's day, the immediate danger was from false teachers who had crept into the church bringing heretical doctrine for their own personal gain at the expense of other people's souls. This same danger exists in every generation of the church, and it certainly exists today.Pastor Melissa Scott unfolds the Scriptures through use of the best extant manuscripts along with in-depth word studies and ancient extra-biblical writings. She explains how Jude's readers would have understood his writing in their day, and how we can apply Jude's teachings to our relationship with Jesus Christ. The Epistle of Jude: A Clarion Call to Contend for the Faith proves how one of the shortest books in the Bible is one of the most useful for the church today.

Agonizing for the Faith by Thomas Coutouzis Pdf

Jude is the second to last book in scripture (right before Revelation). Unfortunately, it is one of the least taught books in Christendom even though it is quite possibly one of the most important. This short 25 verse book written by the half-brother of Jesus is call to arms for believers to stand up against the false teaching that has invaded the church. This timely book was not just relevant in Jude's day, but was a admonition for the church in the centuries to follow to be on guard for the agents of Satan who desire to taint the word of God. This book is commentary on Jude and will dive deep into some of the ancient Greek, as well as many other supporting biblical texts to reveal the deep truths the Holy Spirit penned through Jude. There will be many examples of apostasy of the past in the early church, and apostasy in the present. And yes, there will be apostates in this book who are named and their heresy will be presented against the fires of scripture. This book is meant to equip the saints to "agonize" (ἐπαγωνίζομαι) for the faith against the false teaching that is so pervasive in our culture and around the world. The title of this book was inspired by Jude's command to "ἐπαγωνίζομαι" (epagonizomai) in verse 3, which means "to contend earnestly" for the faith (in context). The Greek root word is where our English word "agonize" comes from. It is literally a call for believers to oppose those who would revile the word of God. If we do not oppose those who slander Christ our Savior and His word, then error will find its way into the church and taint all of those exposed. This book will show you the schemes and motives of the false teacher as Jude pulls no punches.

The Letter of Jude by Guy Manuell Pdf

This commentary on The Letter of Jude engages the Greek text and is designed for pastors, theological students, and lay readers. Jude, a brother of Jesus, warns members of the early Jesus movement against intruders in their midst and exhorts those believers not to deviate from the fundamental tenets of “the faith” in behavior and belief. It also provides a unique analysis that links Jude with 1 Corinthians in terms of their authors’ literary style, Jewish backgrounds, and closely correlated descriptions of the errorists described in both letters. The Letter of Jude is highly relevant to Christians in the twenty-first century. Even many of those now calling themselves evangelical have abandoned any pretence to adhering to biblical doctrines. This commentary seeks to emphasise Jude’ message: contend for biblical truth, and live so that the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is alive, true, and liberating.

The Expulsive Power of a New Affection by Thomas Chalmers Pdf

Thomas Chalmers was a Scottish Presbyterian minister who served most of his life at St. John's parish in Glasgow—a congregation that was both the largest and the poorest congregation in the city. Known for his extensive charitable work in caring for the poor and downtrodden, Chalmers was also an astute theologian. One of his most notable works is The Expulsive Power of a New Affection, in which Chalmers inspires his readers to remove the tangles of sin through the expulsive power of a new affection—desiring God. As a result of the fall, human feelings of love are often misplaced on the creation rather than the Creator. This classic work of the faith reorients our affections toward him.

1–2 Peter and Jude by Jonathan K. Dodson Pdf

The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions that help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” that highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” that show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” that identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on every page of the Bible. 1–2 Peter and Jude are letters written to churches experiencing various kinds of trials—false teachers, distorted views of the gospel, and harsh persecution. If 1 Peter exults, “Jesus will return!” and 2 Peter rebuffs the claim, “Jesus won’t return,” then Jude exhorts, “Jesus is just about here!” Together, these letters form a kind of manifesto of hope for living faithfully no matter how dark the times. This study highlights the importance of holding fast to the true gospel, living distinct, holy lives, and looking ahead to the return of Christ. Part of the Knowing the Bible series.

The Pastoral Epistles by George W. Knight Pdf

This is a thorough, full- scale English commentary on the Greek text of 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. While author George W. Knight gives careful attention to the comments of previous interpreters of the text, both ancient and modern, his emphasis is on exegesis of the Greek text itself and on the flow of the argument in each of these three epistles. Besides providing a detailed look at the meanings and interrelationships of the Greek words as they appear in each context, Knight's commentary includes an introduction that treats at length the question of authorship (he argues for Pauline authorship and proposes, on the basis of stylistic features, that Luke might have been the amanuensis for the Pastoral Epistles), the historical background of these letters, and the personalities and circumstances of the recipients. Knight also provides two special excursuses: the first gathers together the information in the Pastorals and elsewhere in the New Testament on early church offices and leaders; the other excursus examines the motivations for conduct in Titus 2:1-10 with a view to their applicability to present-day situations.
