Lonesome Traveler by Jack Kerouac Pdf

From the acclaimed Beat writer, Jack Kerouac’s unique collection of personal travel writing, now reissued following his centenary celebration In his first directly autobiographical book, Jack Kerouac relates the exhilarating stories of the years he spent restlessly traveling and writing his acclaimed novels. He journeys from the California deserts crisscrossed by train tracks to the bullfights of Mexico to the Beat nightlife of New York City, and across the Atlantic to Paris, Morocco, and London. With echoes of landscapes that appear in his other novels, including The Dharma Bums and Desolation Angels, and featuring his distinctive exuberant style and “jazzy impressionistic prose” (New Yorker), Lonesome Traveler is a unique addition to Kerouac’s body of work. Big Sur by Jack Kerouac Pdf

Driven mad by three years of endless telegrams, phone calls, mail, and reporters in the wake of the success of On the Road, Jack Kerouac needed peace, quiet, sobriety, and solitude, so he withdrew to a cabin in Big Sur on the Californian coast. Amid the wild beauty of the landscape, Kerouac struggled to come to terms with his own myth and its malign impact on his life. The result is Big Sur, a moving, gritty, and uninhibited autobiographical account of a man struggling with inner demons, blessed by talent and cursed with an urge towards self-destruction—a path lined with bourbon, Manhattans, and scotch. Searingly honest and raw, Big Sur shows a man coming to terms with fame, himself, and the world. The Lonesome Gods by Louis L'Amour Pdf

“I am Johannes Verne, and I am not afraid.” This was the boy’s mantra as he plodded through the desert alone, left to die by his vengeful grandfather. Johannes Verne was soon to be rescued by outlaws, but no one could save him from the lasting memory of his grandfather’s eyes, full of impenetrable hatred. Raised in part by Indians, then befriended by a mysterious woman, Johannes grew up to become a rugged adventurer and an educated man. But even now, strengthened by the love of a golden-haired girl and well on his way to making a fortune in bustling early-day Los Angeles, the past may rise up to threaten his future once more. And this time only the ancient gods of the desert can save him.

Sudden Traveler by Sarah Hall Pdf

“[Hall is] beloved by readers for her gorgeous lyricism and ability to delve into unexpected and illuminating tales of what it means to be human." -- Stylist (UK) Featuring her signature themes of identity, eroticism, and existential quest, the stories in Sarah Hall’s third collection travel far afield in location and ambition—from Turkish forest and coastline to the rain-drenched villages of Cumbria. The characters in Sudden Traveler walk, drive, dream, and fly, trying to reconcile themselves with their journeys through life, death, and love. Science fiction meets folktale and philosophy meets mortality. A woman with a new generation of pacemaker chooses to shut it down in the Lakeland, the site of her strongest memories. A man repatriated in the near east hears the name of an old love called and must unpack history’s dark suitcase. From the new world-waves of female anger and resistance, a mythical creature evolves. And in the woods on the border between warring countries, an old well facilitates a dictator’s downfall, before he gains power. A master of short fiction, Sarah Hall opens channels in the human mind and spirit and takes us to the very edge of our possible selves.
