The Manufacture of Intermediate Products for Dyes (Classic Reprint) by John Cannell Cain Pdf

Excerpt from The Manufacture of Intermediate Products for Dyes Nothing is more important in the present revival of the aniline dye industry in England and America than a knowledge of the literature dealing with the manufacture of intermediate products. The scope of most of the books on the subject to which one naturally turns is necessarily limited, and the authors must perforce content themselves with describing the chemistry of the processes concerned. It is, however, of prime importance to the would-be manufacturer to have, in a convenient form, detailed information as to the preparation of the materials he proposes to make, so that he may be sure that he will not spend time and money in rediscovering, perhaps, some process that may have been already elaborately described in an obscure book or periodical. The chemist, confronted with the task of compiling such information, immediately encounters difficulties. It is rarely that he has ready access to a good technical library, and even if that difficulty is overcome, and much time and labour are spent in the search, he will be chary of asserting that he has exhausted the whole of the literature on the subject of his investigation. It appeared to the author that a concise account of the literature dealing with the manufacture of intermediate products for dyes might therefore be of considerable use, and in this book he has endeavoured to present such an account in detail so as to render it unnecessary to refer to the original descriptions. It may perhaps be stated that he doubts whether any single library in England contains the whole of the literature consulted. As a guide to the selection of these materials the author has made considerable use of the "Dyestuff Census of the United States" (published in the Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, 1916, 35, 1202), as well as of other information as to the dyes in general use, and believes that he has included all the more important intermediate products. The Manufacture of Dyes (Classic Reprint) by John Cannell Cain Pdf

Excerpt from The Manufacture of Dyes The manuscript of this book was sent to me by Mrs. Cain shortly after the death of her husband. It is printed practically as I received it, but I have added one or two preparations which I felt that my friend would have included had he had time to prepare this, his last book, for the press. It is evident, I think, that he intended the book to be a supplement to his earlier volume, The Manufacture of Intermediate Products for Dyes, and it is possible that he intended to introduce illustrations of plant and appliances such as those which are to be found there. After careful consideration, I have decided to make no additions of this kind, not only because I wished to leave the book as he' left it, but also because the plant described in the earlier volume is of the same kind as that which would be used in the manufacture of the dyes, and duplication seemed undesirable. Excerpt from Dyes Classified by Intermediates: Dyes Tabularly Arranged Under Each Intermediate, With Statistical and Other Data for Both Dyes and Intermediates; Glossary of Dye and Intermediate Names Alphabetically Arranged Following the synonyms, is given the structural formula, the empirical formula, and the molecular weight. It is the emphatic. Opinion of the writer that the indexing of organic compounds by their formulas is the Simplest, the most universal, and the clearest. Chemical Abstracts, starting with 1920, has inserted a formula index, and it is believed that chemists can find a given intermediate quicker and more surely in Chemical Abstracts by the use of this formula index than by the ordinary subject index. The formulas given here will be an aid in this direction. Furthermore a formula index is included in this book. Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process Technology - Volume V by Ryzhard Pohorecki,John Bridgwater,M. Molzahn. Rafiqul Gani and Crispulo Gallegos Pdf

Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process Technology is a theme component of Encyclopedia of Chemical Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty Encyclopedias. Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering, dealing with processes in which materials undergo changes in their physical or chemical state. These changes may concern size, energy content, composition and/or other application properties. Chemical engineering deals with many processes belonging to chemical industry or related industries (petrochemical, metallurgical, food, pharmaceutical, fine chemicals, coatings and colors, renewable raw materials, biotechnological, etc.), and finds application in manufacturing of such products as acids, alkalis, salts, fuels, fertilizers, crop protection agents, ceramics, glass, paper, colors, dyestuffs, plastics, cosmetics, vitamins and many others. It also plays significant role in environmental protection, biotechnology, nanotechnology, energy production and sustainable economical development. The Theme on Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process Technology deals, in five volumes and covers several topics such as: Fundamentals of Chemical Engineering; Unit Operations – Fluids; Unit Operations – Solids; Chemical Reaction Engineering; Process Development, Modeling, Optimization and Control; Process Management; The Future of Chemical Engineering; Chemical Engineering Education; Main Products, which are then expanded into multiple subtopics, each as a chapter. These five volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

A Concise Guide on Textile Dyes, Pigments and Dye Intermediates with Textile Printing Technology by Dr. H. Panda Pdf

In the past, only organic matter was available for making dyes. Today, there are numerous options and methods for the colorization of textiles. While today’s methods capitalize on efficiency, there is question as to whether the use of chemicals is harmful to the environment. A reputation for harming the earth could be detrimental to a company in a society becoming more and more focused on the environment and its preservation. Today, with the invention of synthetic materials used in textiles, many new types of dyes have been developed and put into regular use. There are two basic ways to color textiles: dyes and pigments. Pigments are not a dye but rather resins mechanically bound to fibers. Dyes are divided into classes according to the types of fibers they are most compatible with. Textile printing is related to dyeing but, whereas in dyeing proper the whole fabric is uniformly covered with one color, in printing one or more colors are applied to it in certain parts only, and in sharply defined patterns.Dyes will yield the softest hand (the "hand" is the feel of the fabric) and maintain the fabric's luster but the process is expensive. Pigments are much more economical to use. Pigments are generally more lightfast, more colorfast, and give greater color control. Pigment technology has developed tremendously in the past 15 years. 85% of the textile printing in the World is pigment printing. This book contains manufacturing process and other related details about Azine dyes, Azoic dyes, Azo dyes, Thiazole dyes, Triphenylmethane dyes, scientific classification of Vat dyes, fluorination of dyes, different types of pigments, applications, usages of dyes and pigments, quality control and evaluation of pigments and many more. This book will serve as a guide to Textile Technologists, Scientists and existing as well as upcoming industries.

The Synthetic Dyestuffs and the Intermediate Products From Which They Are Derived (Classic Reprint) by John Cannell Cain Pdf

Excerpt from The Synthetic Dyestuffs and the Intermediate Products From Which They Are Derived This book is not intended to be an exhaustive treatise on the subject, but is designed to serve the purposes of a laboratory text-book for the use of students in the chemical laboratories of technical schools, and of colleges where technical subjects, connected with this branch of higher organic chemistry, are taught. It is-also hoped that matter will be found in it of use to chemists employed in works dealing with the synthetic dyestuffs. The need for such a book has been repeatedly pointed out to us by teachers who have control of laboratories where the usual course, only, Of organic prepara tion is carried out, and who have realised the incompleteness Of such a course. It is hardly necessary to say that those students who wish to rise to a position of any importance as chemist in works where the organic dyestuffs are in any way used, must be thoroughly conversant with the ordinary facts Of organic chemistry, and in this book we have assumed that such theoretical knowledge has been acquired.
