The Marine Officer's Guide, 9th Edition by Christian N. Haliday Pdf

This updated seminal reference provides new Marine officers--and those aspiring to become Marine officers--comprehensive information and guidance on what it takes to become a successful officer of Marines. The ninth edition of the Marine Officer's Guide includes new content and illustrations to reflect changes in the Department of Defense and the Marine Corps. The book is organized into three parts. After the introductory chapter, Part I addresses the Marine Corps as a military service, an institution, and to some degree, a bureaucracy. This part touches upon the Corps' storied history; places the service in the nation's defense and naval establishments, the treatments of which are completely updated; describes its mission, organization, and infrastructure; and reveals inter alia its culture, the sum of its beliefs and ways of thinking, working, and behaving. Part II concerns topics related to becoming and being an effective officer of Marines. Most important here are discussions of leadership and the profession of arms, but the updated chapters also cover important topics such as unit and individual administration, pay and allowances, and military justice. Part III provides useful information on personal, family, and social matters. In sum, this new edition of Marine Officer's Guide is current and applicable to today's Corps.

The Marine Officer's Guide by Christian N. Haliday Pdf

"This eighth edition of The Marine Officer's Guide continues in the tradition of its predecessors. As Col. Robert D. Heinl Jr., one of its originators noted, the Guide aims "to assist new officers to learn the ropes as quickly as they can, to digest for all readers the continuing changes which have beset the Defense Establishment, and to help the entire officer corps keep professionally up to date." Part I addresses the Marine Corps as a military service, including its culture, organization, and place in the defense establishment. Part II covers topics related to becoming and being an effective Marine officer. Finally, Part III provides useful information on personal, family, and social matters."--Provided by publisher.

The Marine Officer's Guide by Kenneth W. Estes Pdf

The Marine Officer's Guide, 7th Edition describes in detail the Marine Corps as a mili-tary institution of the United States and, in so doing, delineates the characteris-tics of the men and women who constitute the Corps. The Guide supplements, but does not supplant, official regulations and instructions. It can help an officer to acquire quickly a stockpile of information, but it does not relieve the officer of his or her obligation to know the published regulations that govern our Corps. I have endeavored to provide sound advice and up-to-date information on pro-fessional matters of note to the Marine officer. I have described customs and usages that are current and not at variance with "the book." I have also deleted some practices that have become anachronistic, and persons in search of nostal-gic material can refer to preceding editions for them. Many a well-worn copy sits ready at hand on the bookshelves of the officer corps, and officers of all grades have grown accustomed to its reliability and utility. This seventh edition reflects all the changes in the organization of the Corps fostered by the evolving military establishment of the United States. A modern corps, shaped in so many ways by the Great Pacific War of 1941-1945, now reflects the Gulf Conflicts and the passing of the era of superpower rivalry and the century of the world wars. What remain remarkably unchanged, however, are the character of the Marine Corps and the keen pursuit of excellence in the profession of arms that its of-ficer corps reflects.

United States Marine Corps - The Basic School - Warrant Officer Basic Course Materials by Anonim Pdf

Over 2,200 total pages !!! WARRANT OFFICER BASIC COURSE (WOBC) 1-18 INFORMATION Congratulations on your selection as a Warrant Officer of Marines. You are about to embark upon a truly remarkable journey as an officer of Marines. That journey begins with your successful completion of the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) at The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. Warrant Officers and Title 10: Warrant Officer (WO) is an appointed rank, vice a commissioned one. Chief Warrant Officers (Marine Gunners and Recruiting Officers) are commissioned. All Chief Warrant Officers and Warrant Officers must successfully complete the WOBC in order to retain their appointment or commission. Title 10 U.S.C. Section 1165 states: THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY HAS THE AUTHORITY TO TERMINATE THE REGULAR APPOINTMENT OF ANY PERMANENT REGULAR WO AT ANY TIME WITHIN THREE YEARS AFTER THE DATE WHEN THE OFFICER ACCEPTED HIS ORIGINAL PERMANENT APPOINTMENT. A MARINE WHOSE APPOINTMENT IS TERMINATED MAY, UPON HIS REQUEST AND AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY, BE ENLISTED IN A GRADE NOT LOWER THAN THAT HELD IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT. THEREFORE, THE FIRST THREE YEARS AS A WO IS A PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND THE APPOINTMENT TO WO WILL BE TERMINATED IF A MARINE DOES NOT COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE WOBC. WOBC MISSION STATEMENT: Train and educate newly appointed warrant officers in the high standards of professional knowledge esprit-de-corps, and leadership required to transition from enlisted Marine to officer with particular emphasis on the duties, responsibilities and warfighting skills required of a provisional rifle platoon commander. The Warrant Officer Basic Course: The WOBC is an eighteen-week course that focuses on the transition from enlisted Marine to Marine officer. TBS and the WOBC focus on five horizontal themes that define expectations of all Marine Officers: (1) a man/woman of exemplary character, (2) devoted to leading Marines 24/7, (3) able to decide, communicate, and act in the fog of war, (4) a Warfighter who embraces the Corps’ warrior ethos, and (5) mentally strong and physically tough. The universal concept that Marine Officers must be able to assess situations, weigh the pros and cons of various decisions, make a decision, develop a plan, communicate that plan effectively, and supervise its execution is stressed and exercised throughout the course. The course will teach the science and art required for service of Marine Officers with an emphasis on decision making throughout. Provisional infantry and planning subjects are together used as the means or vehicle to teach and evaluate this process. Since all students are evaluated on leadership as Marine Officers; physical, mental, and emotional stress are incorporated throughout the course in order to evaluate the ability to lead in chaotic and stressful environments. Some individuals will be pushed close to their failing point, but the WOBC is designed to give students an opportunity to display positive leadership qualities in the face of adversity. The WOBC is not a “check in the block.” It is a course designed to provide students with the learning experiences necessary to effectively transition to service as a Marine Officer. Students who do not successfully complete the course face a variety of administrative actions, including repetition of the course, recycle to a six month lieutenant Basic Officer Course, revocation of appointment, or separation from the service. The WOBC curriculum is an academically rigorous, provisional infantry and staff planning based program of instruction (POI) which consists of approximately 935 hours of formal instruction. The POI includes classroom instruction, field exercises, sand table exercises, and discussion groups. Classroom instruction is designed around the flipped classroom model.
