The Most Important Words of Jesus by Gerhard Lohfink Pdf

What Jesus taught through his preaching made an unforgettable impression upon his disciples. But it was the many succinctly formulated sayings of Jesus that stood out from the start because of their clear structure and vividness. In The Most Important Words of Jesus, renowned scholar Gerhard Lohfink focuses on the power, beauty, and seriousness of these seventy central sayings of the Lord. When the Church confesses that Jesus is not only truly human but also truly God, that means he is the perfect image of God, God’s definitive word. It rests on the majestic claim that revealed itself, modestly, discreetly, and yet clearly, in every one of the seventy “sayings” or logia of Jesus. In this book, Lohfink helps us to understand what Jesus is talking about in these sharply defined words.

The Words of Jesus by Phyllis Tickle Pdf

What if you could encounter the words of Jesus on their own, lifted up from the surrounding narratives and presented in their full power and mystery? That’s the question Phyllis Tickle—one of America’s most beloved writers on Christian spirituality—asked when she set out to write what she calls a “Sayings gospel.” In The Words of Jesus Tickle has compiled and arranged all the sayings of Jesus from the first four books of the New Testament and the first chapter of the Book of Acts in a way that creates an entirely new kind of encounter with the texts. And she has accompanied those sayings with her own personal reflections and commentaries not just on the words themselves but on the One who spoke them.

The Most Important Questionnaire You Will Ever Take in Your Life by Julian Hudson Pdf

This Book was typed by me but written by The Holy Spirit. There are really only three chapters contained The History My Story and The Questionnaire. The best way to gain a full understanding of the content is to just read Chapter 1. It may feel like too much preaching for your taste, but it is only a set of instructions given to me by The Holy Spirit as how to gain the most from the text. Many people may consider just bouncing to the Questionnaire itself and answer the questions found there, but that is not how The Holy Spirit delivered the instructions to me, so I pass them on to you. The second chapter covers the History of the time when the Church needed some help, and about a man that entered the Church and asked a few questions to bring the Church back on track. Little did he know that his questions would set about changing the world of understanding The Lord and His wishes from that moment on. We still follow most of the doctrines he encouraged here in this country today. The third Chapter is My Story. Of how Jesus showed Himself to me and answered all of my questions, and believe me I had many. This text, this Questionnaire has changed my life forever and helped me transition from only having Faith in God to Trusting God as well and all that that entails. The fourth Chapter is the Questionnaire itself. It maybe to some very difficult to finish but your answers will have to be nothing but what you believe in your heart to be true the day you take it. It will be a record of your beliefs in front of Jesus Himself and any falsehood will immediately be known to Him. I believe that as you pass through this book you will see how Trusting The Lord is much more important than just having Faith. Faith brings you to The Lord and without it I believe you will never feel The Holy Spirit in your heart and soul. But Trust gives you a way to answer the questions you still have. And if you have the courage and conviction to make that step you will have a new understanding of how The Lord God Almightys plan for you works in your life and what you are expected to do to accomplish that plan. It is a big step, but the Questionnaire I believe will help you find answers to many questions you have of your own as it did for me, and all I have been asked to do is to share the enclosed with as many people as I can.

The Difficult Words of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine Pdf

As well as telling parables and stories, giving teachings on how to discern questions of ethics and human nature, and offering beatitudes for comfort and encouragement, Jesus also spoke words and flung insults that followers then and now have found difficult, to say the least. He instructs disciples to hate members of their own families (Luke 14:26), warns that unending fire awaits some people, says body parts should be cut off if they offend. He calls a foreign woman a ‘dog’, the Jews ‘offspring of vipers’ and his closest disciple ‘Satan’. Preachers often gloss over these or avoid them altogether as they are still so shocking. In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine sheds vital light on understanding these by exploring how these sayings sounded to those who first heard them. She reveals Jewish modes of expression, humour and the long tradition of Jewish insults and what they mean, and how we might interpret these sayings today within a gospel of love and reconciliation.

The New Testament Devotional Commentary, Volume 1 by Bo Giertz,Bror Erickson Pdf

Bo Giertz was a serious biblical scholar who avoided the ivory tower. He studied classics in undergrad before taking up theology in preparation for the ministry. In 1930 he spent time on an archeological dig in Palestine and travelled the country with his exegetical professor Anton Fridrichsen who insisted on "Biblical Realism," which avoided fundamentalism and yet refused to succumb to higher criticism. In these commentaries, Bo Giertz takes what he learned from a lifetime of such study and application in in sermons and visits with people to open Scripture to anyone who wants to grow in their faith. He never avoids the hard questions concerning the texts, and yet tackles them in such a way as to restore confidence in God's word. Here, he is concerned with what the text meant to those who first wrote it and heard it so he can deliver the same goods to us today.

Praying the Scriptures by Demetrius Dumm Pdf

Praying the Scriptures sets a number of biblical prayers in the context of biblical revelation so that they are seen as celebrations of God's great saving deeds of the Exodus and the Resurrection. Thus they bring us into the very heart of the experience of salvation in that ultimate prayer-event that is the Eucharist. In this context prayers of petition become acts of trust in the goodness of the God who entered our world definitively in the person of Jesus Christ, while prayers of gratitude convert the lives of believers from fear and guilt to courage and joy. Demetrius Dumm, OSB, PhD, is a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. A professor of New Testament for almost fifty years, he is the author of A Mystical Portrait of Jesus and editor and contributor to The Collegeville Pastoral Dictionary of Biblical Theology. He has given numerous retreats and workshops designed to allow scholarship to bear fruit in the spiritual life of the nonscholar.
