The New Century's Goddess by Hans Christian Andersen Pdf

With the beginning of a new century, we wait for one thing, a new source of inspiration for our poetry that will set it apart from that of the previous centuries. But where is this muse and when will it arrive? Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.

Memoirs of a Schizophrenic Goddess by Nadine Murray Pdf

Admitting I'm nuts would mean that the journey has not been real. Memoirs of a Schizophrenic Goddess begins with the murder of John Lennon. The superstar's spirit leads me to a book on science, ritual and religion called Tantrism. In the book I find pictures of a woman spinning in a circle. Finally there is a reason for the dance that I've been hiding in all of my life. According to the book I am a goddess, but the book is too difficult to understand, the science is too complex. To understand the journey I must read every book in the library. That's millions of books. Adding to my misery are the voices and the visions. Jesus and The Virgin are flesh and blood in my world, and devil-fighting rituals are a way of life. Exhausting my resources I search for help. No one wants to listen. I am encouraged to be quiet, not to let my "craziness" surface. That doesn't work for me because the journey is real.

The Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton Pdf

Ronald Hutton is known for his colourful and provocative writings on original subjects. This work is no exception: for the first full-scale scholarly study of the only religion England has ever given the world; that of modern pagan witchcraft, which has now spread from English shores across four continents. Hutton examines the nature of that religion and its development, and offers a microhistory of attitudes to paganism, witchcraft, and magic in British society since 1800. Its pages reveal village cunning folk, Victorian ritual magicians, classicists and archaeologists, leaders of woodcraft and scouting movements, Freemasons, and members of rural secret societies. We also find some of the leading of figures of English literature, from the Romantic poets to W.B. Yeats, D.H. Lawrence, and Robert Graves, as well as the main personalities who have represented pagan witchcraft to the world since 1950. Densely researched, Triumph of the Moon presents an authoritative insight into a hitherto little-known aspect of modern social history.

Global Insurrectional Politics by Nevzat Soguk Pdf

The recent Arab uprisings across North Africa and the Middle East have attracted scholarly attention as popular movements with novel transnational and religious dimensions. What became known as the Arab Spring can be read as part of a broader politics of normative defiance of predominant political and economic orders. From religious militations, to Indigenous sovereign claims, to mobilizations of refugees and migrants in camps and urban settings, it may be possible to speak, more generally, of contemporary insurrectional politics as social movements that emanate from normative positions that pose significant challenges to systemic orders as we know them. The purpose of this book is (a) to identify the material shifts giving rise to insurrectional politics, (b) to reflect on key arenas of insurrection, (c) to map/chart the impact of insurrectional movements on institutions and relations of political governance at national and global levels, and (d) to explore analytics that will advance theorization of insurrectional politics. The book aims to generate new knowledge on systemic institutional transformations spanning the national and global by bringing together scholars whose work combines theoretical inquiry with empirical analysis of contemporary insurrectional politics. This title was previously published as a special issue of Globalizations.
