Norwegian Elkhound by Juliette Cunliffe Pdf

One of the world's most ancient pure-bred dogs, the Norwegian Elkhound once trotted alongside the sea-faring Vikings as they voyaged through the Old World. Marked by its boldly energetic personality, the Elkhound of Norway proves to be a versatile companion and hunting dog, whose varied quarry included elk, reindeer, bear and game birds. Today the Elkhound is prized for its natural beauty, friendly temperament and independence of character. This is a dignified Spitz breed that has opinions of its own, many clever and curious ways, and distinct voice to express them all. For the confident, active owner, the Elkhound makes a delightful companion dog. Author Juliette Cunliffe has provided a well-researched, informative chapter about the Norwegian Elkhound's fascinating origins, including a detailed account of the breed's development in the US. She also discusses the breed's characteristics, behavior and temperament. This Special Limited Edition, illustrated with over 135 color photographs, covers the selection and care of the Elkhound puppy as well as house-training, obedience training and competing in dog shows and performance events. An excellent chapter on preventive healthcare by renowned veterinarian Dr. Lowell Ackerman addresses all of the concerns of the responsible owner, from selecting a great vet to controlling parasites and the major infectious diseases.

Kennel Building and Management by Mario Migliorini Pdf

Kennels are important for a wide variety of reasons. Pet owners frequently need them as boarding facilities during vacations, periods of upheaval or transition or whenever it becomes impractical for a cat or dog to be left at home. Serious enthusiasts need practical facilities for dealing with multiple animals and turn to kenneling to meet their requirements. Hobby kennels frequently become professional ventures offering boarding and grooming services while others are begun as businesses stressing pet boarding or housing show animals. If you have a serious interest in kennels, this valuable reference, by one of America's most respected authorities on the subject, will be your indispensible guide whether you are building, buying or converting part of your home as an animal environment.

Medical, Genetic & Behavioral Risk Factors of Norwegian Elkhounds by Ross D. Clark DVM Pdf

This book (Norwegian Elkhound) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.

The Evans Guide for Housetraining Your Dog by Job Michael Evans Pdf

One Important Reason for the success of the human/dog relationship is the dog's ability to adapt to human environments and requirements. Housetraining is a prime example, but when humans "humanize" housetraining, points out the Evans Guide, the result is havoc. Now, for all puppies and older dogs and their owners, celebrated dog trainer Job Michael Evans presents a sensible, effective approach to do the job once, fast and right. The author's Access system is a powerful tool that gets the results you want. Learn how to give a "correction with a connection" so Rascal knows his mistake and not to repeat it. The support you need to succeed, in the form of handy schedules, summary sheets, photos and diagrams are all included. There are also important, special chapters for trainers, breeders, pet store operators and shelter personnel to help clients with housetraining. With understanding and humor, Job Michael Evans guides you through the housetraining process to move you and your dog to a lasting partnership--the human/dog relationship as it was meant to be.
