The Person And Work Of The Holy Spirit by René Pache Pdf

“The difference between a religion of mere letter and form and one of life and power lies in knowing the Holy Spirit.”—Dr. R. A. Torrey Can you, or can any Christian go far in the Christian life without giving time and thought to the third Person of the Godhead? Obviously not, for the Holy Spirit takes the things of Christ and shows them to us, and makes the practical application of Bible knowledge obvious to us. He alone can transform Christian theory into life and deeds. Through this book, Dr. Pache will direct us into thinking again about who the Holy Spirit is, what He did before Pentecost, and what He has been doing since then in the lives of men. What place does the Holy Spirit have in the service of the Christian worker, and what will be His ministry in the future? THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT answers this question and others concerning conviction, baptism, filling, indwelling, and gifts of the Spirit. RENE PACHE was principal of Emmaus Bible School at Lausanne. He was the founder of the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Switzerland and France and gave much time to that organization. His published works include The Future Life and The Inspiration and Authority of Scripture.

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit by R. Torrey Pdf

In this classic manual of faith, Reuben Archer Torrey examines the Holy Spirit, that readers may appreciate its nature. Describing the Holy Spirit with close quotations of scripture, Torrey immerses us with clarity supported by the Biblical New Testament. We learn how the Holy Spirit is distinct from both God and Jesus Christ, how it affects the material universe and every one of our lives, and how it was an important witness to the life and doctrines of Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit that acts to set believers on a path of ridding themselves of sin. We are all Sons of God; it is by guiding us towards that sensible eventuality that the Holy Spirit works its essential good within each of our souls. It not only fulfills a role as an educator of Christians needful of faith, but supervises the baptism and informs some of the greatest prophets, saints and apostles of spiritual wisdom. R. A. Torrey was a lifelong Christian, who spent his entire working life - some fifty years - as an evangelist. His speeches, which emphasized the loving nature of God and the supreme kindness and benevolence of the divine, were popular among his congregations. He spent some years touring the United Kingdom as a lecturer, where he received a warm reception from Christian groups.

The Holy Spirit, An Experimental And Pratical View by Octavius Winslow Pdf

The Holy Spirit, An Experimental And Pratical View is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Octavius Winslow (1 August 1808 – 5 March 1878), also known as "The Pilgrim's Companion", was a prominent 19th-century evangelical preacher in England and America. A Baptist minister for most of his life and contemporary of Charles Spurgeon and J. C. Ryle, he seceded to the Anglican church in his last decade. Octavius's mother, Mary Forbes (1774 – 1854) had Scottish roots but was born and raised in Bermuda and was the only child of Dr. and Mrs George Forbes. On 6 September 1791, when she was just 17, she married Army Lieutenant Thomas Winslow of the 47th Regiment. Shortly after this, she came under spiritual convictions and was brought to gospel deliverance while pleading the promise, "Ask, and ye shall receive" Octavius seems to have been given his name because he was then the eighth surviving child. As a child, Octavius and family would worship at Pentonville Chapel under the ministry of Rev. Thomas Sheppard. During this time of his life, he suffered from what seemed to be a life-threatening illness. While staying in Twickenham, a nurse accidentally administered an incorrect medicine that doctors would later say would have killed ten men. Octavius's father was from a wealthy family but by 1815, following his retirement from the army, he suffered ill health and the loss of his fortune due to one of several national financial disasters that occurred in this period. A decision was soon made to move to America, but before Mr. Winslow could join his wife and children in New York, he died. At the same time, their youngest child died too. Octavius was but 7 years old. Widowed at 40, responsible for a large family, and scarcely settled in America, Mrs Winslow's entire life was turned upside down. Worst of all, spiritual darkness and despondency overwhelmed her for many months. They were a deeply religious family and Octavius later wrote a book about their experiences from his mother's perspective in a book entitled Life in Jesus. Family historian D. Kenelm Winslow recorded their plight: "Mary had the youngsters out on the streets of New York selling matches and newspapers as soon as they were old enough for such tasks. She set them to any job they could tackle, gathering them around her at night for scripture reading followed by a good sound evangelical harangue and prayers." Mary and her children lived in New York City until 1820. Then, after a four-month visit back to England, they would then move to Sing Sing, NY on the Hudson River for "four years of congenial repose". In 1824, they would move back to New York City for a season of "special revival" where brothers Octavius, Isaac, and George would become converted and later convinced of God's calling to ministry.

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, as Revealed in the Scriptures and in Personal Experience (Classic Reprint) by R. A. Torrey Pdf

Excerpt from The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, as Revealed in the Scriptures and in Personal Experience It is of the highest importance from the standpoint of worship that we decide whether the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, worthy to receive our adoration, our faith, our love, and our entire surrender to Himself, or whether it is simply an influence emanating from God or a power or an illumination that God imparts to us. If the Holy Spirit is a person, and a Divine Person, and we do not know Him as such, then we are robbing a Divine Being of the worship and the faith and the love and the surrender to Himself which are His due.
