Success and the Christian by A. W. Tozer Pdf

Success and the Christian is a compilation of A.W. Tozer sermons on the subject matter of spiritual maturity—both its cost and criteria for the believer. The overall purpose of this collection is to "promote the personal heart religion"' among God's people, something Tozer consistently emphasized. Knowing God deeply and intimately brings purpose and meaning to life and should be the Christian's highest goal. So what holds us back from authentic spiritual success? A.W. Tozer contends that it is the excess baggage that most Christians carry that prevents them from going further with God. In this insightful and prophetic book, Tozer shows how we can recognize and clear away the stumbling blocks that keep us from a dynamic relationship with our Savior.

The Plague Epic in Early Modern England by Rebecca Totaro Pdf

The Plague Epic in Early Modern England: Heroic Measures, 1603-1721 presents together, for the first time, modernized versions of ten of the most poignant of plague poems in the English language - each composed in heroic verse and responding to the urgent need to justify the ways of God in times of social, religious, and political upheaval. Showcasing unusual combinations of passion and restraint, heart-rending lamentation and nation-building fervor, these poems function as literary memorials to the plague-time fallen. In an extended introduction, Rebecca Totaro makes the case that these poems belong to a distinct literary genre that she calls the 'plague epic.' Because the poems are formally and thematically related to Milton's great epics Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained, this volume represents a rare discovery of previously unidentified sources of great value for Milton studies and scholarly research into the epic, didactic verse, cultural studies of the seventeenth century, illness as metaphor, and interdisciplinary approaches to illness, natural disaster, trauma, and memory.

Rise of the Dark Sun (the Blood Lust Plague Trilogy Book 1) by Kendall Pearce Pdf

Porphyrias. Originating in Transylvania, the disease was penance for cannibals and those who took pleasure in feeding on the blood of another. This disease ravaged the infected body; drained the tone of their skin, caused them to grow fangs, disallowed for them to leave the house in the day and plagued them with an unending thirst for human blood. Those that were infected came to be known as vampires. Eventually, the diseased few turned too many and soon, the vampire race was comparable to the true humans. Throughout this process, Micah, a vampire and Samantha, a true human "Quencher", whose blood allows Micah to face the sun and survive, are lovers. Although, Micah is not the only one who seeks the blood of his beloved Samantha. When Samantha fulfills her dream of going to Europe to study the vampire race, Micah and their vampire friend, Constance, accompanies her for protection. However, the deeper they delve into the secrets behind the vampire race; the harder it is to escape their plans. Micah, Samantha and Constance must take a stand against the vampire government before the Rise of the Dark Sun is able to break through the dawn and allow all vampires the key to the gift of sunlight.

Lust for Liberty by Samuel Kline COHN,Samuel Kline Cohn Pdf

Lust for Liberty challenges long-standing views of popular medieval revolts. Comparing rebellions in northern and southern Europe over two centuries, Samuel Cohn analyzes their causes and forms, their leadership, the role of women, and the suppression or success of these revolts. Popular revolts were remarkably common--not the last resort of desperate people. Leaders were largely workers, artisans, and peasants. Over 90 percent of the uprisings pitted ordinary people against the state and were fought over political rights--regarding citizenship, governmental offices, the barriers of ancient hierarchies--rather than rents, food prices, or working conditions. After the Black Death, the connection of the word liberty with revolts increased fivefold, and its meaning became more closely tied with notions of equality instead of privilege. The book offers a new interpretation of the Black Death and the increase of and change in popular revolt from the mid-1350s to the early fifteenth century. Instead of structural explanations based on economic, demographic, and political models, this book turns to the actors themselves--peasants, artisans, and bourgeois--finding that the plagues wrought a new urgency for social and political change and a new self- and class-confidence in the efficacy of collective action.
