The Purpose of Theosophy: Texts by Petra Meyer and Patience Sinnett by Petra Meyer,Patience Sinnett Pdf
This volume explores the origins of the theosophical movement and its continuing relevance in the modern world. It is part of a series of writings, collected under the banner 'Modern Theosophy', re-presenting important texts drawn from the history of the theosophical movement together with texts from contemporary authors and innovative thinkers. Petra Meyer is President of Blavatsky Lodge in England. She has lectured at the Theosophical Society in England's Summer School and also at the European School of Theosophy on subjects ranging from reincarnation to eastern mysticism to modern scientific inquiry. Patience Sinnett was an English theosophist and friend of H. P. Blavatsky in the earliest days of the Theosophical Society in India. She wrote two pamphlets entitled The Purpose of Theosophy described by founding theosophist Henry Steel Olcott as 'an introductory manual for beginners'. The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 to explore the interconnectedness of all life, the universal wisdoms held in ancient religions and myths, and the potential latent in human beings.

No Religion Higher Than Truth by Maria Carlson Pdf
Among the various kinds of occultism popular during the Russian Silver Age (1890-1914), modern Theosophy was by far the most intellectually significant. This contemporary gnostic gospel was invented and disseminated by Helena Blavatsky, an expatriate Russian with an enthusiasm for Buddhist thought and a genius for self-promotion. What distinguished Theosophy from the other kinds of "mysticism"—the spiritualism, table turning, fortune-telling, and magic—that fascinated the Russian intelligentsia of the period? In answering this question, Maria Carlson offers the first scholarly study of a controversial but important movement in its Russian context. Carlson's is the only work on this topic written by an intellectual historian not ideologically committed to Theosophy. Placing Mme Blavatsky and her "secret doctrine" in a Russian setting, the book also discusses independent Russian Theosophical circles and the impact of the Theosophical-Anthroposophical schism in Russia. It surveys the vigorous polemics of the Theosophists and their critics, demonstrates Theosophy's role in the philosophical dialogues of the Russian creative intelligentsia, and chronicles the demise of the movement after 1917. By exploring this long neglected aspect of the Silver Age, Carlson greatly enriches our knowledge of fin-de-sicle Russian culture. Originally published in 1993. THEOSOPHY EXPLAINED by Pestonji Temulji Pavri Pdf
As beginners in the study of Theosophy ask numerous questions, an attempt has been made in this book to present the broad teachings of Theosophy in a systematic way in the form of questions and answers. The material collected here is drawn from over hundred books and pamphlets, mainly the works of that wonderful occultist, Bishop Charles Leadbeater, and the famous President of the Theosophical Society, Dr. Annie Besant. The purpose of this book is to make the study of Theosophy a little easier in its elementary stage, before more advanced and comprehensive books, dealing with abstruse and metaphysical questions, are taken up for study.

The Key to Theosophy by H. P. Blavatsky Pdf
Excerpt from The Key to Theosophy: Being a Clear Exposition, in the Form of Question and Answer, of the Ethics, Science, and Philosophy for the Study of Which the Theosophical Society Has Been Founded The purpose of this book is exactly expressed in its title, "The Key to Theosophy," and needs but few words of explanation. It is not a complete or exhaustive text-book of Theosophy, but only a key to unlock the door that leads to the deeper study. It traces the broad outlines of the Wisdom Religion, and explains its fundamental principles; meeting, at the same time, the various objections raised by the average Western enquirer, and endeavouring to present unfamiliar concepts in a form as simple and in language as clear as possible. That it should succeed in making Theosophy intelligible without mental effort on the part of the reader, would be too much to expect; but it is hoped that the obscurity still left is of the thought not of the language, is due to depth not to confusion. To the mentally lazy or obtuse, Theosophy must remain a riddle; for in the world mental as in the world spiritual each man must progress by his own efforts. The writer cannot do the reader's thinking for him, nor would the latter be any the better off if such vicarious thought were possible. Theosophy across Boundaries by Hans Martin Krämer,Julian Strube Pdf
Theosophy across Boundaries brings a global history approach to the study of esotericism, highlighting the important role of Theosophy in the general histories of religion, science, philosophy, art, and politics. The first half of the book consists of seven perspectives on the activities of the Theosophical Society in very different regional contexts, ranging from India, Vietnam, China, and Japan to Victorian Britain and Israel, shedding new light on the entanglement of "Western" and "Oriental" ideas around 1900. The second half explores specific cultural influences that Theosophy exerted in the spheres of literature, art, and politics, using case studies from Sri Lanka, Burma, India, Japan, Ireland, Germany, and Russia. The examples clearly show that Theosophy was part of a truly global movement, thus providing an outstanding example of the complex entanglements of the global religious history of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
