God in My Everything by Ken Shigematsu Pdf

Ken Shigematsu shows that spiritual formation is more than just solitude and contemplative reflections. Spiritual formation happens in the everyday, in each and every moment of life. For those caught up in the busyness of work, family, and church, it often feels like time with God is just another thing on a crowded “to-do’ list. Ken explains how the time-tested spiritual practice of the “rule of life” can help bring busy people into a closer relationship with God. He shows how a personal rule of life can fit almost any vocation or life situation. In God in My Everything, you will discover how to create and practice a life-giving, sustainable rhythm in the midst of your demanding life. If you long for a deeper spirituality but often feel that the busyness of life makes a close relationship with God challenging—and, at times, seemingly impossible—this book is for you.

Rhythms of Grace by Kerri Weems Pdf

Life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. These well-known words of wisdom remind us to pace ourselves in the journey of life so we reach the finish line with no regrets. Pacing yourself is not as easy as it sounds. Life tends to take on a pace of its own which when left unchecked, will drive us toward burnout and fatigue. We can easily become driven by care, worry, and ambition rather than led by the Holy Spirit. We may tend to think of burnout as a modern problem, but we can see that people in Jesus’ day felt their own kind of spiritual and emotional fatigue. Why else would Jesus have said these comforting words? Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly (Matt. 11:28-30; The Message). Even though he spoke these words more than two millennia ago, Jesus’ call to rest and peace seem tailor-made to fit this generation. Author Kerri Weems had let the pace and rhythm of her life get out of control. At first the consequences were only physical, but they quickly impacted her spiritual life. Since then, God has been teaching her to walk in time with him; he is teaching her to be led rather than driven. In this book, she opens up her life and shares this journey with the reader. God’s best for each of us is that we go the full distance of our race, and not just crawl exhausted across the finish line. God wants us to enjoy the race and cross the line with our heads held high, a smile on our faces, and our arms lifted in a double fist-punch! Getting to that moment is all about learning the rhythms of grace and pacing ourselves for the long run.

The Rhythm of the Christian Life by Brian J. Wright Pdf

Discover Life as God Intended Hurried and exhausted, we are looking for a better way to manage all the demands in our lives. We think that if we could simply learn to balance everything, we would be happier. But our problem isn’t balance. What we actually need is to rediscover the rhythm. God has created a pulse for our lives, and for centuries Christians lived into that intentional rhythm, one that has been all but lost today. In this book, Wright invites us to find true joy and wholeness as we embrace the two core realities that every person experiences in life: •moments alone: times of solitude when we are with God alone •moments together: times of intentional fellowship with others In our efforts to maximize our time, we often set unrealistic expectations for our “quiet time” and our social relationships. The result is a failure to hear the ancient rhythm that shows how these dimensions of our lives should complement each other. Embracing the rhythm of the Christian life, and living it wholeheartedly, is the task of all believers, not just some of us. As Christians, our whole life consists of loving God and loving others— just like Jesus did. Explore The Rhythm of Christian Life and recapture the joy of life as God always intended.

The Power New Testament: Revealing Jewish Roots by William J. Morford Pdf

The Power New Testament is from the One New Man Bible translation. The goal of the One New Man Bible is to bring a greater understanding of and appreciation for the Jewish roots of Christianity. This translation is part of an ongoing study to learn more about Who God is and to find the deeper meanings of Scripture. Because Jesus was, and still is (Hebrews 13:8), Jewish, as was every apostle, and every author of the New Testament, it was necessary to study much more than just the Greek language to do an accurate translation. This involves Hebrew language studies and the teachings of Jewish scholars to come as close as possible to what the Hebrew Scriptures meant to the New Testament authors. It is also important to learn about Hebrew idioms that are intact in the Greek text. A number of Bible scholars believe that at least the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke were originally written in Hebrew, partly because there are so many Hebrew idioms and so much Hebrew grammar in the Greek text. Whether or not those or other books of the New Testament were originally in Hebrew will not be explored here, but this translation makes every effort to translate those Hebrew expressions properly. Another goal of this translation is to point out Jewish customs that have often been missed and to explain the meanings of various customs. Throughout the text of The Power New Testament, there are over 1,700 footnotes and includes access to the One New Man Bible online Glossary (https: //www.onenewmanbible.com/glossary/) to describe various first-century Jewish customs and to explain Hebrew Scriptures. Many Jewish sources were studied. Among those were the Talmud, Mishna, Midrash, and Zohar, but the full list includes many modern Jewish commentaries that draw upon those four, but also quote numerous ancient and more recent sources. Those studies bring real depth to the subjects in the Glossary, but even more importantly, that study gives insight into the thinking of Jesus and the Apostles, especially the New Testament authors. It is important for those of us reading in the twenty-first century to understand what a word or expression meant to those who wrote the passages in the first century. The Greek text used for this translation is the United Bible Societies' Fourth Edition, published in 1993. The editors used a scientific method called Textual Criticism to determine which of the more than five thousand ancient manuscripts of the New Testament were closest to what the authors wrote in the first century. This method is similar to what the editors of the ancient Greek classics use to determine the most accurate copies of those writings. Because over the centuries, there were many additions to the texts; as the textual scholars have identified them, they have been dropped from some translations or simply identified as added text, but still translated. This translation leaves out completely all passages positively identified by the editors as additions. That makes it possible for you to read a text without the intrusion of material that was not written by the author. The common practice is to translate those passages and just add footnotes to identify them as additions. This translation has as its goal to be a very readable text that flows from one book to another while preserving much of the Jewish flavor, especially the Jewishness of Jesus, and much of the power that is in the Greek and Hebrew expressions. The people who have worked on this translation all believe that by the laying on of hands we have all the gifts of the Spirit of the Living God, the King of the Universe, and that God is the same today as when He created the universe, and He will remain the same for eternit

Spiritual Rhythm by Mark Buchanan Pdf

"Abide in me," Jesus tells us, "and you will bear much fruit." Yet too often we forget that fruit needs different seasons in order to grow. We measure our spiritual maturity by how much we do rather than how we are responding to our current spiritual season. In Spiritual Rhythm, Mark Buchanan replaces our spirituality of busyness with a spirituality of abiding. Sometimes we are busy, sometimes still, sometimes pushing with all we've got, sometimes waiting. This model of the spiritual life measures and produces growth by asking: Are we living in rhythm with the season we are in? With the lyrical writing for which he is known, Mark invites us to respond to every season of the heart, whether we are flourishing and fruitful, stark and dismal, or cool and windy. In comparing spiritual rhythms to the seasons of the year, he shows us what to expect from each season and how embracing the seasons causes our spiritual lives to prosper. As he draws on the powerful words of Scripture, Mark explores what activities are suitable or necessary in each season--and what activities are useless or even harmful in that season. Throughout the book, Mark weaves together stories of young and old, men and women, families, couples, and individuals who are in or have been through a particular season of the heart. As Mark writes, "I pray that this book meets you in whatever season you're in, and prepares you for whatever seasons await. I pray that it helps you find your voice, your stride, your rhythm, in season or out. Mostly, I pray that you, with or without my help, find Christ wherever you are. And that, even more, you discover that wherever you are, he's found you."

Rhythms of Rest by Shelly Miller Pdf

An Inspiring, Practical Guide to Finding Rest and Getting Closer to God Sabbath-keeping not only brings physical refreshment, it restores the soul. God commands us to "remember the Sabbath," but is it realistic in today's fast-paced culture? In this warm and helpful book, Shelly Miller dispels legalistic ideas about Sabbath and shows how even busy people can implement a rhythm of rest into their lives--whether for an hour, a morning, or a whole day. With encouraging stories from people in different stages in life, Miller shares practical advice for having peaceful, close times with God. You will learn simple ways to be intentional about rest, ideas for tuning out distractions and tuning in God, and even how meals and other times with friends and family can be Sabbath experiences. Ultimately, this book is an invitation to those who long for rest but don't know how to make it a reality. Sabbath is a gift from God to be embraced, not a spiritual hoop to jump through.
