The poetry embodied in many of the tales is uniformly extracted from Mr. Lockhart's most graphic and excellent translation of ancient Spanish ballads; and as it serves to throw a glowing charm over my illustrations of romantic history, the reader, I am confident, will thank me for the liberty I have taken.
