War Flying (Classic Reprint) by L. F. Hutcheon Pdf

Excerpt from War Flying This little volume of Theta's letters to his home people is offered in the hope that it may prove useful, and not for glory or reward. The Royal Flying Corps in war-time works in secret. Many of our gallant lads would gladly become pilots if they knew how to set to, work, and, approximately, what they would have to face. When Theta decided to try to enter the service he had nothing to go on save a determination to get there and a general idea of the difficulty of achiev ing his purpose. His careless and unstudied notes, written at odd moments in the work of training and of war, do show how a public schoolboy may become a flying officer and how he-may fare thereafter. Names, dates, and places, about which the Censor might have concern, have been concealed, and ex traneous matters have been omitted. The letters are a cheery and light-hearted record, and may stimulate others. From first to last they have not contained a grumble. Aircraft in War (Classic Reprint) by Eric Stuart Bruce Pdf

Excerpt from Aircraft in War I wish particularly to bring to your Lordship's notice the admirable work done by the Royal Flying Corps under Sir David Henderson. Their skill, energy, and perseverance have been beyond all praise. They have furnished me with the most complete and accurate information, which has been of inestimable value in the conduct of the operations. Fired at constantly both by friend and foe, and not hesitating to fly in every kind of weather, they have remained undaunted throughout. Further, by actually fighting in the air, they have succeeded in destroying five of the enemy's machines. Above the Battle (Classic Reprint) by Vivian Drake Pdf

Excerpt from Above the Battle The word Romance, and all it 'means, is so closely allied to the average conception of the present day War Pilot that the layman can scarcely visualise the many sides of military aviation alone, nor yet the immense growth of the Corps to which he belongs. From an inconsiderable beginning - inconsiderable in the light of our present size - with few machines and few aerodromes, has grown a mighty organisation; and from a mere handful of pioneers there has arisen a vast band whose deeds have created a great Flying Service. In France, Russia, Italy, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Mace donia and Syria the pilots of the Royal Flying Corps have fought the enemy and wrung from him the utter most respect for the familiar red, white and blue rings. But this respect and our supremacy has not been won without many a bitter struggle; and it is the details of the ever changing phases of aerial warfare which, even if described with a truth akin to baldness, are by far stranger than fiction. The Australian Flying Corps in the Western and Eastern Theatres of War, 1914-1918 (Classic Reprint) by Frederic Morley Cutlack Pdf

Excerpt from The Australian Flying Corps in the Western and Eastern Theatres of War, 1914-1918 For the war-theatre of Egypt and Palestine (no. I Squadron), particularly during the early twelve months of the squadron in the desert east of the Suez Canal, the author has had access to the private diaries of lieutenant-colonel R. Williams, who served in that unit as flight-commander and squadron-commander. This personal record has proved very helpful. He also owes great thanks to Colonel Williams, the late lieutenant-colonel W. 0. Watt, and Major A. Murray Jones, sometime flight-commanders in the squadron, and to Major T. F. Rutledge, sometime squadron-commander, who read his manuscript and helped him with their comments. In the European section, containing the story of Nos. 2, 3, and 4 Squadrons, he is indebted to the late Lieutenant Colonel Watt, Major Murray Jones, and Lieutenant E. R. Dibbs, of No. 2 Squadron, to Major D. V. J. Blake, of No. 3 Squadron, and to Captain G. F. Malley and Captain A. H. Cobby, of No. 4 Squadron, for reading the manuscript and for their notes, which were of great value, on obscure points. The author had the advantage of personal acquaintance with some of the work of the three squadrons in France during 1918. Captain Andrew Lang's invaluable notes on types and development of aircraft in the British, French, and German services are published in a special appendix. To Lieutenants H. Johnston and J. J. Malone are due the notes on the development of the use of wireless telegraphy in aircraft. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The War in the Air, Vol. 1 by Walter Alexander Raleigh Pdf

Excerpt from The War in the Air, Vol. 1: Being the Story of the Part Played in the Great War by the Royal Air Force The History of which this is the first volume is, in the main, the history of the part played in the war by British air forces. It is based chiefly on the records of the Air Ministry collected and preserved at the Historical Section. The stafi Of the Section have spared no trouble to collect an immense amount of material and arrange it for use, to consult living witnesses, to verify facts down to the minutest details, and to correct any errors that may have crept into the narrative. Their main purpose has been to secure that any statement of fact made in this book shall be true and demonstrable. If in any particular instances they have failed in this purpose, it has not been for lack of pains and care.
