The Saga of Joe Monk by James E. Snyder, Jr. Pdf

Joe Monk was a young black golf prodigy. His swing was so pure and wide and flowing that his soul and golf's spirits seemed to merge as one. He learned to play with a tobacco stick as his club and small round pebbles as his projectiles. Because of his race he was required to travel north to establish credentials sufficient to participate in the great North and South Amateur in Pinehurst, predecessor to Augusta, golf's southern right of spring. Potentially the world's greatest golfer, his quest for immortality on the number two course is poignant and stirring.

A Lawyer Prays God's Will for His Clients by James E. Snyder, Jr. Pdf

An extraordinary spiritual experience: e.g. a prayer by the husband, a prayer by the wife, again the husband, again the wife and then the lawyer. If you have a legal problem, you have a spiritual opportunity. Follow amazing prayer language--dialogues of prayers between litigants who involve God as their true Judge. If your cause is so right; is it also righteous; and, are you willing to pray and even to hear the prayers of your opposition? Will you enter God's courthouse and with ultimate honesty and faith simply submit--without appeal? This book is a series of prayers pertaining to most every important legal topic. Five prayers are offered with regard to each topic. For example, in a domestic scenario, the wife prays a prayer, the husband prays a prayer, then the wife, then the husband to be followed by a prayer of the attorney. It is desired that a reading of these prayers will enable individuals with specific legal concerns better to appreciate their own positions and the positions of the opposition and that the reader will find strength, comfort, and unique ways to resolve their particular controversies.

Thelonious Monk by Robin D. G. Kelley Pdf

From the mind of brilliant historian Robin Kelley comes the first full biography of legendary jazz musician Thelonious Monk, including full access to the family's archives, dozens of interviews, and an afterword for Monk’s 2017 centennial. Thelonious Monk is the critically acclaimed, gripping saga of an artist’s struggle to “make it” without compromising his musical vision. It is a story that, like its subject, reflects the tidal ebbs and flows of American history in the twentieth century. To his fans, he was the ultimate hipster; to his detractors, he was temperamental, eccentric, taciturn, or childlike. His angular melodies and dissonant harmonies shook the jazz world to its foundations, ushering in the birth of “bebop” and establishing Monk as one of America’s greatest composers. Elegantly written and rich with humor and pathos, Thelonious Monk is the definitive work on modern jazz’s most original composer.

The Gates of Power by Mikael S. Adolphson Pdf

The political influence of temples in premodern Japan, most clearly manifested in divine demonstrations—where rowdy monks and shrine servants brought holy symbols to the capital to exert pressure on courtiers—has traditionally been condemned and is poorly understood. In an impressive examination of this intriguing aspect of medieval Japan, the author employs a wide range of previously neglected sources to argue that religious protest was a symptom of political factionalism in the capital rather than its cause. It is his contention that religious violence can be traced primarily to attempts by secular leaders to rearrange religious and political hierarchies to their own advantage, thereby leaving disfavored religious institutions to fend for their accustomed rights and status. In this context, divine demonstrations became the preferred negotiating tool for monastic complexes. For almost three centuries, such strategies allowed a handful of elite temples to maintain enough of an equilibrium to sustain and defend the old style of rulership even against the efforts of the Ashikaga Shogunate in the mid-fourteenth century. By acknowledging temples and monks as legitimate co-rulers, The Gates of Power provides a new synthesis of Japanese rulership from the late Heian (794–1185) to the early Muromachi (1336–1573) eras, offering a unique and comprehensive analysis that brings together the spheres of art, religion, ideas, and politics in medieval Japan.

When I Am Weak, Then I Am Strong by Dr. Vincent M. M. Galici Sr. Pdf

The fourth book in the Stanoli saga plumbs deeply into the social, political, and religious behaviors of key figures in and around the family over multiple generations from the United States to the old country and back. The main present-day character can be summed up by how he endeavors to live his life, tackling his days by reassessing his own deeply held beliefs, getting out of his comfort zone, and trying things he typically wouldn’t try. He is similar to his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather as a soul-searching thinker, conserving the customs with which he was raised. As the saga unfolds, some personalities seem born evil; others lean toward virtue. Some are eternal optimists, finding happiness even in the dark. Some are risk takers, putting their reputations on the line. The Stanoli patriarch was fond of saying, “There is nothing greater than loving God and loving your neighbor,” but such wisdom is not always simple through the twists and turns of modern life.
