The Sovereign Grace of God in Salvation by John Roden Pdf

Following the Introduction, the author begins by giving a comprehensive Biblical definition of the grace of God, with relevant Scripture references and several quotes from famous authors. He then characterizes the grace of God as both awesome and amazing because of its sovereign character and transforming power in the lives of those who truly experience it. The practical fruits of the grace of God in the life of the true believer is a recurring theme throughout the book, particularly set forth in the chapter, "The Evidences of the New Birth." The first section of the book is devoted to explaining why the grace of God is so desperately needed by every human being. The fall of the human race through the sin of the first man Adam as described in Genesis 3 and Romans 5:12-19 is clearly set forth, followed by a detailed exposition of its consequences for Adam and all his posterity. There are many Scripture quotes and references given. It is a Biblical study of the doctrine of man's total depravity, and is the foundation of all that follows. The rest of the book develops the theme of the sovereign grace of each Person of the triune God in the salvation of lost sinners: sovereign election by God the Father, particular redemption by God the Son, and effectual calling by God the Holy Spirit. A key section of the book is a study of Romans 8:28-30, "God's Unbreakable Chain of Sovereign Grace," which is accompanied by a diagram illustrating this passage, and an appendix which gives an accurate Biblical definition of the foreknowledge of God, essential to properly understanding these verses. The final chapter of the book, titled "The Sovereign Grace of God in Securing Salvation," deals with the controversial subject of the security of the believer, examining it from both the Divine perspective (preservation by the triune God) and from the human perspective (the perseverance of the individual believer).

The Sovereignty of God by Arthur Pink Pdf

The Sovereignty of God is a religion classic by English Bible teacher Arthur Pink who articulates and relates the Biblical truths of God's absolute Sovereignty with the main goal to exalt God solely from the pages of Scripture. Pink attempts to draw closer the tension between the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man, an eternal question that remains debated even though it's seemingly plainly taught in the Scripture. The author's focus is on the divine side of the issue, defining God's sovereignty and presenting the different spheres that it works and operates. Further on he turns to the tension between the sovereignty of God and human will and responsibility.

Salvation and Sovereignty by Kenneth Keathley Pdf

In Salvation and Sovereignty, Kenneth Keathley asks, “What shall a Christian do who is convinced of certain central tenets of Calvinism but not its corollaries?” He then writes, “I see salvation as a sovereign work of grace but suspect that the usual Calvinist understanding of sovereignty (that God is the cause of all things) is not sustained by the biblical witness as a whole.” Aiming to resolve this matter, the author argues that just three of Calvinism’s five TULIP points can be defended scripturally and instead builds on the ROSES acronym first presented by Timothy George (Radical depravity, Overcoming grace, Sovereign election, Eternal life, Singular redemption). In relation, Keathley looks at salvation and sovereignty through the lens of Molinism, a doctrine named after Luis Molina (1535-1600) that is based on a strong notion of God’s control and an equally firm affirmation of human freedom.

The Gospel According to Jesus by John F. MacArthur Pdf

What is authentic faith? The Gospel According to Jesus challenges Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, "What does it really mean to be saved?" He urges readers to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obedience. John MacArthur tackles the error of "easy-believism" by addressing these questions: Is it possible to accept Jesus as Savior while refusing him as Lord? Can someone truly believe without actually repenting? How do obedience, commitment to Christ, and turning from sin fit together with the truth that we are saved by grace through faith alone? The Gospel According to Jesus is just as powerful today as it was more than two decades ago. It is a Scripture-based clarion call for a rejection of the watered-down message that has gained popularity in the church and a return to the gospel Jesus preached. This 20th anniversary edition adds a powerful new chapter to the complete text of the original classic, reinforcing the book's timeless message—that Jesus demands to be both Savior and Lord to all who believe. This book is compulsory reading for Christians from all walks of life and will help guide you into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Recovering Our Lost Theology by Rick Brownell Pdf

Are you bothered with how shallow and superficial the way we think about theology has become? It seems it's become more important to share some condensed, peanut-sized version of the gospel at the simplest, most juvenile, least thought-provoking level with our culture rather than let people wrestle with the theological difficulties and search out how they might be rectified logically. Author Rick Brownell has had enough. In his book, Recovering Our Lost Theology: The Sovereign Grace of God, Brownell poses the tough questions and challenges readers to reevaluate their theological thinking. How does God loving the world yet destroying a group of its inhabitants work itself out in your theological framework? Is God so detailed and powerful in his sovereign plans that he controls not only the creeping of a single aphid over a rosebud but the flight patterns and boundaries of a billion locusts? If God is so sovereign in the natural world, would he leave the salvation of a lost sinner to his own apostate will and determination in the spiritual world? These are just a few of the questions Brownell addresses so that readers will focus again on God's grace and mercy in the salvation of men. He hopes readers will recapture a biblical perspective on evangelism and abandon the tired advice of many theologians who suggest Christians 'don't get bogged down with profound theological concepts' when sharing the gospel. Recovering Our Lost Theology is a daring and moving challenge to readers to reaffirm their commitment to God's sovereignty in salvation, evangelism, and theology to the glory of God alone. Rick Brownell lives in Aurora, Oregon, with his wife of twenty-seven years, Sheila. He has a bachelor's degree in ornamental horticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a master's degree in exegetical theology from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He can frequently be found engaging believers and unbelievers alike in discussions of theology and the sovereignty of God in the Christian faith.

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J. I. Packer Pdf

If God is in control of everything, can Christians sit back and not bother to evangelize? Or does active evangelism imply that God is not really sovereign at all? J. I. Packer shows in this new edition to the popular IVP Classics how both of these attitudes are false. In a careful review of the biblical evidence, he shows how a right understanding of God's sovereignty is not so much a barrier to evangelism as an incentive and powerful support for it. With over 100,000 copies in print, Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God is truly a classic that should be read by every Christian.

The Doctrines of Grace by James Montgomery Boice,Philip Graham Ryken Pdf

There is no question that we live in an age of weak theology and casual Christianity. We have substituted intuition for truth, feeling for belief and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Evangelicalism desperately needs to return to the doctrines that once before reformed the world: radical depravity, unconditional election, particular redemption, efficacious grace and persevering grace. James Boice and Philip Ryken not only provide a compelling exposition on these doctrines of grace, but also look briefly at their historical impact. The authors leave no doubt that the church suffers when these foundational truths are neglected and that she must return to a Christianity that is practical-minded, kind-hearted, and most importantly, biblically based.

Sovereignty of God by Arthur W. Pink Pdf

Pink (d. 1953) is noted for his independent thinking. He was so well read, and had such a photographic memory, that he could give you the page and column in a host of reference works and commentaries. This book shocked the Christian world in 1919 when he published it. He fiercely defends the sovereignty of God, and all the cognate doctrines such as the Doctrines of Grace. It is THE book to give to those just after conversion, and a prime book to give to anyone who defends the free will of man. Pink was a Baptist preacher who held pulpits in England, America, and Australia. His early training was in scientology. His conversion was instant, and complete dedication to the cause of God and truth quickly became evident. This early book by Pink lays Scripture end to end to prove God's control over all persons and events. It is uncompromising, and as such it raises the hackles on the necks of many new students of this doctrine. Persons who knew Pink seldom objected to anything he taught, because he could literally quote hundreds of verses of Scripture verbatim on the subject under discussion. This book may be overwhelming, but it is certain that its many printings have been used of God to convince people of His sovereignty. The Banner of Truth has an edition of this book, but they have abridged their edition by deleting the chapter on Reprobation. If Pink were still alive, he certainly would not have allowed this misrepresentation of his doctrinal belief: that God both elects and reprobates, as Romans 9:21?23 clearly teaches. It is an important stone to guide the steps of those who are not yet convinced of God's absolute sovereignty over all persons and events.
