Star Child by Claire A. Nivola Pdf

The Star Child, a tiny flame of vapor, invisible and timeless, watches the Earth from far, far away. He marvels at the blue swirls of the ocean and the green land, a bright spot turning through the darkness of space. He wants to go to this wondrous place, but he ponders: What will that life be like? "You will be plunged into Earth's river of time," his elders tell the Star Child. "There will be so much for you to learn and so much for you to feel—pleasure and fear, joy and disappointment, sadness and wonder." Through spare, artful text and intricate illustrations, Claire A. Nivola celebrates the cycle of life. A Frances Foster Book

Star Child by Jennifer Martin Pdf

At age four, author Jennifer Martins son, Kelly, was diagnosed with a rare inherited metabolic disorder, mucopolysaccharidosis, or MPS, which caused multiple complications throughout his life. He lived until the age of twenty-three, when he died of a sudden heart attack. In Star Child, Martin offers a poignant look at her bittersweet healing journey following her sons death. Martins heartfelt expressions in Star Child celebrate Kellys brief life and give grieving parents solace and support, allowing healing to begin. Star Child includes stories and poems that complement my writing. Each story and each poem were specifically chosen to be included because of their beauty, eloquence, grace, and power. The authors and poets featured here offer a sacred communion with their words, hearts, and the deep understanding of loss, pain, and love. Their words and sentiments echo a familiar song to my broken heart. Different stories, different wordsdifferent but, in the end, the same. In the words of Queen Elizabeth II, Grief is the price we pay for love. Jennifer Martin Praise for Star Child Star Child: A Mothers Journey through Grief, by Jennifer Martin, is a beautifully crafted tribute to a young sons life and death, which lands in the heart gently, like a feather from an angels wing. Maria Housden, author, Hannahs Gift: Lessons from a Life Fully Lived Star Child is a beautifully told story. Jennifer Martin has managed to speak of her deep loss without sentimentality. Instead, she creates space for the universal elements of loss and grief to find expression. Through her words, the tearing apart of one mothers heart moves toward a fierce resolve to find the deeper meanings in love and life. In grief, she writes, Something expands and contracts inside of you. It is a wise image. Then she submits her own pain to the expansion. Nwelezelanga by Unathi Magubeni Pdf

With a rich vocabulary that is poetic and uncluttered, this debut novel is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is both a well-written and philosophical book. The story begins with Nokwakha giving birth at her village home, and when it is discovered that the child is an albino the midwife convinces her that it is a curse and she should snuff the life out of it before it takes another breath. The dreadful deed is done by the river, but the 'all-knowing one' has other plans ... With an assured voice and eloquent prose, Magubeni invites us into the life of this extraordinary being, Nwelezelanga, the child who should not have been, contrasting the themes of darkness and light, embracing the unknown and unseen in a way no one else has - or can.

The Starchild Skull -- Genetic Enigma Or Human-Alien Hybrid? by Lloyd Pye Pdf

"In the 1930s a girl in Mexico found two skulls and brought them to the U.S. One was a normal human, the other was something else. Since 1999, Lloyd Pye has coordinated the extensive scientific testing of both skulls. The Starchild Skull is a charmingly wry, addictively readable book chronicling Pye’s odyssey with the skulls."--From the publisher.

Star Child by Ibi Zoboi Pdf

"Octavia Estelle Butler dreamed of the stars, and Ibi Zoboi uses prose and poetry to give us what she terms a "biographical constellation" of a Black woman writing science fiction when it was very much still a white boy's club. Though written for children, the biography offers much for adults familiar with Butler's work may appreciate, from the titles of the sections ("Parable of the Sower," "Parable of the Talents") to lines in the poems referencing Butler's work. Zoboi does a nice job of introducing the time frame in which Butler grew up as well as giving biographical details. The poetry was less successful for me, but I just let the words wash over me and went with it. I get from the author's note that she was doing something very intentional with that aspect of the biographical "constellation," and I admit as a very picky poetry reader, it was generally lost on me, though others may appreciate her craft. The final section was interesting, in which Zoboi talks about meeting Butler herself and what affect she had on Zoboi's own writing. Mostly, though, I was left wanting to read a full-length adult biography to answer all the questions I still have. (read less) Review by bell7starstarstarstarempty star (LibraryThing) In a creative read, this biography of Octavia Butler is interspersed with poems and short chapters. It follows Butler's drive to write and create science fiction from an early age. Sets of poems are paired with short prose that elaborates on the poem and its connection to Butler's life. The book contains quotes from Butler as well as a section of images in the middle of the book. It inspired me to read some of Butler's work! (read less)"--
