The Starlight Night by David H. Levy Pdf

In this updated second edition renowned amateur comet-searcher David H. Levy expands on his work about the intricate relationship between the night sky and the works of English Literature. This revised and expanded text includes new sections on Alfred Lord Tennyson and Gerald Manley Hopkins (both amateur astronomers), extending the time period analyzed in the first edition from early modern literature to encompass the Victorian age. Although the sky enters into much of literature through the ages, British authors offer an especially fertile connection to the heavens, and Levy links the works of seminal authors from Shakespeare on to specific celestial events and scientific advances. From the impact of comets and supernovae to eclipses, Levy’s ultimate goal in this book is to inspire his readers to do the same thing as their ancestors did so long ago—look up and appreciate the stars. His insights in this revised book spread farther and wider than ever before in this learned and enchanting tour of the skies.

Starlight Nights by Stacey Kade Pdf

In this sizzling companion to the critically acclaimed 738 Days, Stacey Kade once again creates a masterful combination of romance, angst, and thrills in the backdrop of a Hollywood film set. At twenty-two, Calista Beckett is trying to overcome her early fame and fortune. The former savior of the world on Starlight is now a freshman at college—miles away from L.A. and her former existence. She sees it as her start to a new life, a normal life, one where she won’t make the same mistakes she made before—a brush with heroin addiction and losing her freedom to her controlling mother, thanks to a court order. Eric Stone played her older brother, Byron, on Starlight. But she’s been in love with him pretty much since they kissed—her first kiss—while auditioning. When Eric shows up on campus out of the blue, Calista’s struck immediately by two things: first, in spite of everything that’s happened, she still feels something dangerous for him, and second, she’s absolutely determined not to let him ruin her life again. Only Eric’s not going away so easily. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Starlight Tour by Susanne Reber,Robert Renaud Pdf

A teen’s suspicious death, a shocking police cover-up and a mother’s search for the truth. In 1990, on a November night that hit –28 degrees Celsius, seventeen-year-old Neil Stonechild disappeared only blocks from his mother’s home. His frozen body was found three days later, eight kilometres from where he was last seen in downtown Saskatoon. The police investigation was cursory — no one seemed to wonder about the abrasions on his wrists or the scrapes on his face, or the fact that he was missing a shoe. Neil was drunk and out walking, the police believed, and had died by misadventure. His mother, Stella Bignell, tried her best to push for answers, but no one in authority wanted to listen to a native woman whose sons had often been in trouble with the law. But Stella did not give up, and neither did the only witness, sixteen-year-old Jason Roy, who had seen Neil, beaten and bleeding, in the back of a Saskatoon police cruiser the night he disappeared. Starlight Tour recounts their struggle for justice in the face of indifferent officials, destroyed police files and institutionalized racism. In the decade following Neil’s death, rumours persisted that police sometimes drove natives beyond the edge of town and abandoned them. But it was only in January 2000, when two more men were found frozen to death, that the truth about Neil Stonechild’ s fate began to emerge. A third man, Darrell Night, survived his “starlight tour,” and lived to tell the tale. And soon one of the country’s most prominent aboriginal lawyers, Donald Worme, was on the case. With exclusive co-operation from the Stonechild family, Worme, and other key players, and information not yet revealed in the press coverage, Starlight Tour is an engrossing and damning portrait of rogue cops, racism, obstruction of justice and justice denied, not only to a boy and his mother but to the entire country’s native community.

The Hazel Wood meets The Astonishing Color of After in this dreamy, atmospheric novel that follows sixteen-year-old Eli as she tries to remember what truly happened the night her mother disappeared off a frozen fjord in Norway under the Northern Lights. Never whistle at the Northern Lights, the legend goes, or they'll sweep down from the sky and carry you away. Sixteen-year-old Eline Davis knows it's true. She was there ten years ago, on a frozen fjord in Svalbard, Norway, the night her mother whistled at the lights and then vanished. Now, Eli lives an ordinary life with her dad on Cape Cod. But when the Northern Lights are visible over the Cape for just one night, she can't resist the possibility of seeing her mother again. So she whistles--and it works. Her mother appears, with snowy hair, frosty fingertips and a hazy story of where she's been all these years. And she doesn't return alone. Along with Eli's mother's reappearance come strange, impossible things. Narwhals swimming in Cape Cod Bay, meteorites landing in Eli's yard, and three shadowy princesses with ominous messages. It's all too much, too fast, and Eli pushes her mother away. She disappears again--but this time, she leaves behind a note that will send Eli on a journey across continents, to the northern tip of the world: Find me where I left you.

Starlight by Richard Wagamese Pdf

NATIONAL BESTSELLER The final novel from Richard Wagamese, the bestselling and beloved author of Indian Horse and Medicine Walk, centres on an abused woman on the run who finds refuge on a farm owned by an Indigenous man with wounds of his own. A profoundly moving novel about the redemptive power of love, mercy, and compassion--and the land's ability to heal us. Frank Starlight has long settled into a quiet life working his remote farm, but his contemplative existence comes to an abrupt end with the arrival of Emmy, who has committed a desperate act so she and her child can escape a harrowing life of violence. Starlight takes in Emmy and her daughter to help them get back on their feet, and this accidental family eventually grows into a real one. But Emmy's abusive ex isn't content to just let her go. He wants revenge and is determined to hunt her down. Starlight was unfinished at the time of Richard Wagamese's death, yet every page radiates with his masterful storytelling, intense humanism, and insights that are as hard-earned as they are beautiful. With astonishing scenes set in the rugged backcountry of the B.C. Interior, and characters whose scars cut deep even as their journey toward healing and forgiveness lifts us, Starlight is a last gift to readers from a writer who believed in the power of stories to save us.

Always Plenty Of Light At The Starlight All Night Diner by Darcy Parker Bruce Pdf

"A title like ALWAYS PLENTY OF LIGHT AT THE STARLIGHT ALL NIGHT DINER tells you a lot about what kind of play you're going to see. You've got a setting, a theme, a symbol and a lengthiness that suggests a healthy eccentricity.... A waitress and janitor are working the overnight shift at the Starlight All Night Diner. Jessa, the waitress, is pregnant and married to someone who is not up to the task. Sam, the janitor, is rough around the edges and lives in her truck. It's almost immediately apparent that Sam is in love with Jessa, which Sam somehow thinks she's hiding very well. Outside, a passing comet-Comet Killjoy-is creating an unnaturally bright night sky. Enter Dr Moxie and his graduate assistant, Danni. They come to their favorite diner like a gale, bringing notes, mysterious specimen jars and a frenetic tension that soon spreads. Killjoy, they explain, is neither passing nor a comet. It's an asteroid that will crash into the Earth and destroy life as we know it. Luckily, they seem to have a plan-one that revolves around making a fresh pot of coffee exactly at midnight. As the clock races toward midnight, Jessa and Danni tie up the loose threads of their lives. Danni tries to reconcile with her parents, who believe her attraction to other women is a rebellious phase. Jessa calls her husband and tries to get him to at least go outside and look at Killjoy (he's too busy with I Love Lucy). Then there's a bright light, a deafening roar, and the meat of the story begins. This play is nothing if not original. Playwright Darcy Parker Bruce makes unexpected decisions that lead to interesting, unfamiliar outcomes. She deliberately avoids common apocalyptic tropes, starting with the fact that her survivors are an old, eccentric professor, two lesbians and an expectant mother of a young girl. They have a future, but it has a likely expiration date, which actually relieves a significant amount of tension. When propagating humanity is no longer a viable option, the characters are given unprecedented freedom for self-discovery. That freedom plays out beautifully. The cast of characters feels strangely thrown together at first, but each is perfectly suited for the situation. Dr Moxie is taking a lifetime of research into its stunning conclusion. Danni's failed reconciliation with her parents leaves her ready to build a new life somewhere else. Jessa is terrified of raising a baby on her own, and Sam wants nothing more than to be there for her." Zach Moning, Arts Wave

Search Effectiveness with the Starlight Scope and 7 X 50 Binoculars by John Patrick Farrell,James Huber Banks,Jack J. Sternberg Pdf

The night operations program is concerned with problems in optimizing human performance in relation to night vision devices and related sensors. To further this research, experimentation has been directed toward enhancement of the performance of the combat soldier in night operations. The report describes an experimental evaluation or four passive night vision devices, and presents results of the assessment of operator performance with these devices in target detection and search tasks. Subjects were required to detect targets (soldiers or aggressor type silhouettes) presented in two modes. Responses were recorded electronically. Data obtained were analyzed to determine performance effectiveness with the two subject devices and the effects were studied of illumination (starlight, half moon, full moon), distance (50 - 300 meters), target mode (moving vs stationary), target exposure time (10, 20, 30 and 90 seconds), and their interactions on search performance.
