Excerpt from The Successful Treatment of Scarlet Fever: Also Observations on the Pathology Treatment of Growing Inspiration in Infants If custom did not demand a Preface to a Book, however small, I could have been well content that the present Volume should have made its appearance without one; for in the Two Dissertations of which it consists, I have simply stated matters of fact and experience, which require no preliminary key to enable the reader to understand them. I may here, however, anticipate an objection which may possibly be made to the title of the first, The Successful Treatment of Scarlet Fever: it may be said that this is too confident. To such an objection, my answer is, that this title only expresses what I have experienced to be true; and the still longer experience of a friend - whose treatment of the Disease is similar to my own, and based on the same principles - confirms what I have stated, and further justifies the propriety of the title. The red rash that occurs due to the scarlet fever bacterial infection is what gives this illness its name. The same bacteria that cause strep throat also cause this illness. Scarlet fever is a common complication of strep throat that occurs when the infection is either untreated or treated improperly. Symptoms usually subside a day or two before the rash begins, and it first manifests on the face, neck, and chest before spreading elsewhere. - Strawberry tongue is characterized by a reddened and swollen tongue that takes on a "strawberry-like" appearance. - Tonsil and cervical lymph node enlargement is a common symptom of strep throat. - Flu-like symptoms might also include things like a fever, a sore throat, and a cough. Antibiotics, specifically penicillin or amoxicillin, can cure scarlet fever. In order to avoid problems and contain the infection's progress, prompt medical attention is essential. While scarlet fever may be fatal in the past, antibiotics have made it far less frequent and the condition is easily treated nowadays.
