The 1857 Hamilton, Ontario Revival by Sandra L. King Pdf

Hundreds of people were converted, leading to significant church growth, in an 1857 revival led by Phoebe Palmer in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada that contributed to the beginning of the Second Great Awakening. This book explores the 1857 setting in the world and in Hamilton, including the key churches and people involved in the revival. What happened was not typical for revival meetings led by the Palmers, as this account shows. The book continues with a summary of the impact of the Hamilton revival around the globe, linking it to other revivals and the Second Great Awakening as a whole. The account ends with what subsequently unfolded in the Hamilton area and the churches involved. Many of the primary sources are in the Appendix, and the book includes numerous pictures and maps. Scholars, ministers, and lay people alike will appreciate this exploration of a chapter in Canada's spiritual history.

What's Right with the Church by Elmer L. Towns Pdf

The early believers of Jesus Christ knew that they were not just members of an organization, nor were they just an extension of Old Testament Judaism. They knew that they were followers of the living Lord Jesus Christ. They were members of a thing called the church. Through the centuries, the church has been the most powerful transforming force in history. Yet in America many observe it as anemic and powerless. Author Elmer Towns contends that there is good news; there are many things that are still right with the church. What Is Right With the Church affirms the positive things that are present in the church today, and what will carry it forward as a transforming force. This book is not a defense of the traditional church, nor does it run to embrace all new forms of worship. Rather this book examines the biblical nature of church allowing the best to come forth. It is not a book about old churches, new churches or home churches. It is a book about what is right about every true church, no matter the expression, history or culture. A growing number of people are not aware of the enduring strengths of the church. The author contends that if believers in Christ are to effectively move forward with healthy communities and a vibrant faith in this new century, they must be established on foundational, biblical truths and core values. And when this happens, the church thrives as a transforming force.

Revivals Visitations And Moves Of God by Anonim Pdf

Revival is bringing something that is dead back to life. Much of today’s Church needs reviving. When God comes in an unusual way, releasing His presence and power over and above what a church normally experiences, we call it a visitation of God. Every visitation of God should become a habitation of God and become a move of God, going beyond that local church into the community, city, and nation. The move of God results in evangelization, missions, and the fulfilling of the Great Commission. Starting in the book of Acts and down through the centuries, there have been numerous visitations and moves of God. We look at Church history. Understanding history helps us correctly interpret the present and prepare for the future. We draw inspiration, insight, and lessons from what God has done in the past, by reviewing stories, and asking relevant questions: What can we learn from Church history about revivals, visitations, and moves of God? What does it take for a visitation of God to become a move of God? What are signs of a genuine visitation of God? How do we steward a revival, a visitation, and a move of God? The “latter rain” falls just before harvest. “Therefore, be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand” (James 5:7-8). In biblical context, the early rains were showers that usually came during October-November and prepared the ground for the seed. The latter rain fell during March-April and was necessary for the ripening of the crops before harvest. If we believe God is preparing for a mighty endtime outpouring, a great visitation, and ingathering of harvest before His return, then we must get ourselves and our congregations ready for the latter rain of the Holy Spirit. The Charismatic Century by Jack W. Hayford,S. David Moore Pdf

The most profound event in modern church history took place not in a cathedral but in a clapboard church in Los Angeles. A small congregation of mostly African American worshipers embraced the concept that New Testament signs and wonders were still available in the early twentieth century. Their dramatic spiritual revival, which became known as the Azusa Street Revival, attracted believers worldwide and launched the modern Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. This event forever changed Christian worship, music, and expression. In commemoration of Azusa Street's 100th anniversary, Jack Hayford tells the story, revealing how Christians are still experiencing its impact.

If My People by Eric D. Hilton Pdf

In this day and age of hyperactivity it is easy for us to mistake action for anointing and volume for presence. However, a chicken with its head cut off has action, but it is not very healthy, you could say, “...thou hast a name that thou livest and art dead.” (Revelation 3:1) Revival is our answer to all that ails the church, but, have we been so long without revival that we no longer desire it? “If My People” is a book designed to open our hearts and minds to what the Psalmist meant when he said, “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? (Psalm 85:6) Our only hope is revival but, what is it? What does it look like? Why do we need it? and What can I do? This little book answers these questions and much more. This little book puts us on the right path for a full out bona fide revival.

Evaluating the Church Growth Movement by Elmer L. Towns Pdf

Gaining form and momentum over the second half of the 20th century, the Church Growth movement has become an enormous shaping force on the Western church today. You may love it, you may hate it, but you can't deny its impact. But what exactly is Church Growth? In what ways has the movement actually brought growth to the church, and how effective has it been in doing so? What are its strengths and weaknesses? This timely book addresses such questions. After providing a richly informative history and overview, it explores---in a first-ever roundtable of their leading voices---five main perspectives, both pro and con, on the classic Church Growth movement: * Effective Evangelism View (Elmer Towns) * Gospel in Our Culture View (Craig Van Gelder) * Centrist View (Charles Van Engen) * Reformist View (Gailyn Van Rheenan) * Renewal View (Howard Snyder) As in other Counterpoints books, each view is first presented by its proponent, then critiqued by his co-contributors. The book concludes with reflections by three seasoned pastors who have grappled with the practical implications of Church Growth. The interactive and fair-minded nature of the Counterpoints format allows the reader to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each view and draw informed, personal conclusions. The Counterpoints series provides a forum for comparison and critique of different views on issues important to Christians. Counterpoints books address two categories: Church Life and Exploring Theology. Complete your library with other books in the Counterpoints series.

Ancient Wells, Living Water by Rod Parsley Pdf

Many Christians seem to have lost that old-time religion, and it has been replaced by doctrines that claim to be new and improved! Rod Parsley explains how believers today are drinking from polluted wells that were once built by the faith of our spiritual fathers. While readers may have been pushed down, pushed back or pushed aside by the enemy, God is about to push them through every line of Satan's defense of sickness, sin, depravity and disease! Parsley identifies the types of wells built by Abraham, Isaac, the apostle Paul, Martin Luther, E. M. Bounds, John Wesley, Charles Finney, John G. Lake and more. In this prophetic and timely message, Parsley encourages believers to stop trading living water for an imitation gospel that looks like godliness but denies the power of God.
