Probability Theory by R.G. Laha,V.K. Rohatgi Pdf
This comprehensive presentation of the basic concepts of probability theory examines both classical and modern methods. The treatment emphasizes the relationship between probability theory and mathematical analysis, and it stresses applications to statistics as well as to analysis. Topics include: • The laws of large numbers • Distribution and characteristic functions • The central limit problem • Dependence • Random variables taking values in a normed linear space Each chapter features worked examples in addition to problems, and bibliographical references to supplementary reading material enhance the text. For advanced undergraduates and graduate students in mathematics.

The Application of Group Theory in Physics by G.Ya. Lyubarskii Pdf
The Application of Group Theory in Physics is a 17-chapter text based on a course of lectures concerning the principles, concepts, and application of group theory in physics, given at the Gorki University in Kharkov. This text presents first the parts of the theory of representations of finite and continuous groups that are most important in application. Considerable chapters cover the groups of theory of interest in theoretical physics and demonstrate the principles according to which the abstract concepts and the theorems of representation theory are applied in theoretical physics. The remaining chapters provide representations of the rotation group and the Lorentz group. The closing part of this work contains tables of the detailed description of the 230 space groups and for the characters of certain groups. This book is intended primarily for physicists specializing in theoretical physics

Mathematical Methods and Theory in Games, Programming, and Economics by Samuel Karlin Pdf
Mathematical Methods and Theory in Games, Programming, and Economics, Volume II provides information pertinent to the mathematical theory of games of strategy. This book presents the mathematical tools for manipulating and analyzing large sets of strategies. Organized into nine chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the fundamental concepts in game theory, namely, strategy and pay-off. This text then examines the identification of strategies with points in Euclidean n-space, which is a convenience that simplifies the mathematical analysis. Other chapters provide a discussion of the theory of finite convex games. This book discusses as well the extension of the theory of convex continuous games to generalized convex games, which leads to the characterization that such games possess optimal strategies of finite type. The final chapter deals with the components of a simple two-person poker game. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians, statisticians, economists, social scientists, and research workers.

Consciousness and the Aconscious in Psychoanalytic Theory by Ahmed Fayek Pdf
In the last few decades consciousness has become a major topic of interest for neurologists, psychologists, and a host of other professionals in various disciplines. Their concerted efforts to define consciousness led them mostly to the same impasse: the leap from the body to the mind, or to the particular link that makes the mind an attribute of consciousness. In 1895 Freud put together a project for a Psychology for the Neurologists. It comprised the elements of a theory of consciousness as a manifestation of the continuous homeostatic pursuit of stability; an aconscious condition. Although he made a distinction between the aconscious and the unconscious in many of his important works, he did not clearly define the ways in which the two could co-exist in a unified theory. In Consciousness and the Aconscious in Psychoanalytic Theory, Ahmed Fayek summarizes current arguments and debates stemming from neurological and phenomenological perspectives. He presents the notion that consciousness needs to be considered a human phenomenon and not simply a manifestation of brain activity, which is an occurrence shared by all organisms. Using Freud’s theories as they relate to consciousness, Fayek places his own theory of the aconscious within the context of Freudian thought.

Non-perturbative Methods in 2 Dimensional Quantum Field Theory by Elcio Abdalla,M. Cristina B. Abdalla,Klaus Dieter Rothe Pdf
The second edition of Non-Perturbative Methods in Two-Dimensional Quantum Field Theory is an extensively revised version, involving major changes and additions. Although much of the material is special to two dimensions, the techniques used should prove helpful also in the development of techniques applicable in higher dimensions. In particular, the last three chapters of the book will be of direct interest to researchers wanting to work in the field of conformal field theory and strings. This book is intended for students working for their PhD degree and post-doctoral researchers wishing to acquaint themselves with the non-perturbative aspects of quantum field theory.

This volume presents the proceedings of the workshop on higher category theory and mathematical physics held at Northwestern University. Exciting new developments were presented with the aim of making them better known outside the community of experts. In particular, presentations in the style, 'Higher Categories for the Working Mathematician', were encouraged. The volume is the first to bring together developments in higher category theory with applications. This collection is a valuable introduction to this topic - one that holds great promise for future developments in mathematics.
