Four Great Religions by Annie Besant Pdf

[A]n attempt is made to distinguish the essential from the non-essential in each religion... For every religion in the course of time suffers from accretions due to ignorance not to wisdom, to blindness not to vision.-from the ForewordAnne Besant was one of the most popular and beloved voices of the theosophical movement of the early 20th century, and here she turns that occult philosophy, which sought to find the underlying universal truths in all religions, on religion itself. This series of lectures, published in book form in 1906, was intended to help members of each religion recognize the beauty and truth in the faiths not his own. On Hinduism's "complete presentment of spiritual truth," Zoroastrianism's "perfect practical purity," the secret of the Buddha, and the spirit of Jesus' teachings, she is passionate and enlightening in demonstrating the primal essence that unifies them all.British social reformer and writer ANNIE BESANT (1847-1933) was an early public advocate of birth control and women's health care, as well as an active proponent of theosophy. Among her books are The Ancient Wisdom (1897), Death and After (1901), and Occult Chemistry (1919).

Theosophy and Yoga: Texts by Jenny Baker and Annie Besant by Jenny Baker,Annie Besant Pdf

This volume explores the ways in which both theosophy and yoga base spiritual progress on the deepest possible understanding of the nature of life - that it exists as a single unity. This volume is part of a series of writings, collected under the banner 'Modern Theosophy' re-presenting important texts drawn from the history of the theosophical movement and complemented by texts from contemporary authors and innovative thinkers. Jenny Baker is the President of the Theosophical Society in England. She joined the society in 1981 after attending a yoga weekend. She was particularly struck by the first object of the Theosophical Society - the formation of a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour. Annie Besant was a women's rights activist, supporter of Irish independence, socialist, author and International President of the Theosophical Society from 1907 until her death in 1933. Besant's many works include The Nature of Yoga reproduced in this volume (one of four lectures on the topic) and Theosophy and the Search for Happiness (1918) also available in the Modern Theosophy series. The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 to explore the interconnectedness of all life, the universal wisdoms held in ancient religions and myths, and the potential latent in human beings.

Invisible Worlds by Anonim Pdf

"To investigate the unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in humanity" is one object of the Theosophical Society. Annie Besant (1847–1933), outspoken feminist, political activist, and early president of the TS, thought that psychic and spiritual development should be available to everyone, not just a chosen few. In her many books and articles providing guidelines, her goal was not to help students develop supernormal powers, but to help them increase consciousness in order to receive instruction from the ascended Masters. Besant believed this work had positively changed her life and wanted others to enjoy the same benefit. Although penned a century ago, Besant’s wisdom on the subject is still germane. Her prose is clear and inspiring, and Kurt Leland’s introduction and notes are well-informed. He helpfully divides Besant’s writings into four parts — Occultism Light and Dark, Higher Life Training, the Investigation of Different Worlds, and the Science of the Superphysical.
