The Trapper's Choice by Marge Whittaker Pdf

The saga which began with Josiah Stevenson atop New Hampshire's 'Old Craggy' in "A Far Way Home" continues in "The Trapper's Choice." In 1836, David Eldridge treks through the Rockies on an epic journey of fur trapping and self discovery. Having left the love of his life Callie back in Arkansas, David lives with and learns from the old trappers who instill the wisdom of the mountains in him: 'Once the Old Man places his claim on you, you never say goodbye.' Torn between the freedom of the mountains and the sweet enslavement of his lover's arms, young David comes of age crisscrossing the American West, and wrestling with "the Trapper's Choice".

Wild Pride Montana by Toby Walrath Pdf

Fur trapping in North America began at the turn of the sixteenth century when rugged mountain men pushed ever westward in search of beaver. These entrepreneurs possessed an unmatched sense of adventure, a relentless drive to succeed, and an uncanny ability to survive. The intimacy between man and nature discovered by these early explorers has been continued through hardy souls still lucky enough to know the thrill and excitement of a modern-day trapline. The proud heritage of America’s fur-trappers lives on through trappers associations, trapper education programs, and the trappers who continue to live it. Follow the journey of a young boy in 20th century rural America who learned about wild lands and wildlife through fi rsthand experience. The people he meets along the way inspire him to write about trappers and trapping and the importance of preserving man’s primitive crafts for the continuation of America’s rich wildlife legacy.

Guide to Trapping by Jim Spencer Pdf

• Complete guide to trapping raccoon, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, and a variety of other species • Authoritative advice on matching the right trap--whether leg-hold, body gripper, or snare--to each furbearer • Species-specific instructions for making sets that deliver and tips for preparing and marketing pelts to maximize profits Trapping has become somewhat of a lost art, but interest in the sport is as strong as ever thanks to a stable fur market and a growing need to control mammal populations or remove nuisance animals. In Guide to Trapping, Jim Spencer covers strategies for successfully harvesting popular species such as raccoon, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, coyote, gray fox, red fox, bobcat, skunk, and opossum. His entertaining and informative writing will appeal to trappers of all levels. Spencer discusses trap styles and the basics of establishing and working a trapline, including techniques for fastening and adjusting traps and a species-by-species review of trapping tactics for the country's most pursued furbearers. The field-tested techniques, carefully explained and illustrated, will help trappers make sets that deliver maximum results.

Prophets, Pastors and Public Choices by Roger Hutchinson Pdf

The Mackenzie Valley natural gas pipeline debate included many actors. This is the first in-depth study in comparative religious ethics to examine the debate with a particular focus on the role of the Canadian churches. In 1974 twenty-seven of the world’s largest oil and natural gas companies applied for permission to build a pipeline through the Mackenzie Valley to transport Alaskan and northern Canadian gas to large southern markets. Many northern native peoples opposed the proposal and called for a moratorium on major northern development projects until native land claims had been settled. The mainline Canadian Christian churches supported the call for a moratorium and, through the interchurch coalition, Project North, campaigned against the pipeline. However, some native peoples supported the proposal to build the pipeline, and many of the pipeline’s proponents were members of churches that called for a moratorium on the project. This case study in comparative religious ethics, though written from a pro-moratorium stand, attempts to clarify the debate. Conflicting responses to the pipeline proposal are assessed in relation to “hard facts” concerning the need for northern gas in the South, social-scientific findings regarding the impact of the pipeline on native communities, the rights of native peoples to participate in decisions affecting their lives, assumptions about the way of life of non-native people in the South and the role of religious convictions in public choices. This thoroughly researched study reveals the inner workings and influences of the Canadian churches involved and illustrates their commitment on behalf of the northern natives opposed to the project.
