The Trophy Effect by Michael A. Nitti Pdf

The Trophy Effect is an innate, subconscious force that causes human beings to focus on their shortcomings, rather than on their accomplishments. As a result, we are inclined to feel more doubtful than hopeful and are more likely to give up on things rather than stay the course. Moreover, because The Trophy Effect is tied directly to our survival instinct (our "reactionary mind"), it's so well concealed that we don't even know that it's occurring. Therefore, we are not aware that The Trophy Effect is something over which we can exercise full control by simply learning how to do it.

The Trophy Effect by Michael A. Nitti Pdf

The Trophy Effect No matter how intelligent, capable, or successful you are, you may question your capabilities or self-worth regularly. You’re more likely to be concerned about falling short than you are to be inclined to anticipate success. That’s just how humans are wired. Author Michael A. Nitti offers a way to change that negative thought process. In The Trophy Effect, he explains the powerful, subconscious force that causes human beings to focus on their shortcomings (what’s wrong) rather than on the positive aspects of their lives (what’s possible). To break free of this dynamic, by stepping beyond your fears, Nitti walks you through a metaphorical journey of your mind, allowing you to not only see clearly the actual source of your self-doubt, but how to access your inherent passion and joy. Presenting a formula for freedom, happiness, and fulfillment, The Trophy Effect takes you on a spiritual experience of self-discovery, leaving you fully empowered to both override your reactive mind and take absolute control of your life forever.

The Schneider Trophy Air Races by Jerry Murland Pdf

The history of the Schneider Trophy is the history of aircraft development. When Jacques Schneider devised and inaugurated the Coupe d’Aviation Maritime race for seaplanes in 1913, no-one could have predicted the profound effect the Series would have on aircraft design and aeronautical development, not to mention world history. Howard Pixton’s 1914 victory in a Sopwith Tabloid biplane surprisingly surpassed the performance of monoplanes and other manufacturers turned back to biplanes. During The Great War aerial combat was almost entirely conducted by biplanes, with their low landing speeds, rapid climb rates and maneuverability. Post-war the Races resumed in 1920. The American Curtiss racing aircraft set the pattern for the 1920s, making way for Harold Mitchell’s Supermarines in the 1930’s. Having won the 1927 race at Venice Mitchell developed his ground-breaking aircraft into the iconic Spitfire powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. This new generation of British fighter aircraft were to play a decisive role in defeating the Luftwaffe and thwarting the Nazis’ invasion plans. This is a fascinating account of the air race series that had a huge influence on the development of flight.

The Power of Bad by John Tierney,Roy F. Baumeister Pdf

"The most important book at the borderland of psychology and politics that I have ever read."—Martin E. P. Seligman, Zellerbach Family Professor of Psychology at that University of Pennsylvania and author of Learned Optimism Why are we devastated by a word of criticism even when it’s mixed with lavish praise? Because our brains are wired to focus on the bad. This negativity effect explains things great and small: why countries blunder into disastrous wars, why couples divorce, why people flub job interviews, how schools fail students, why football coaches stupidly punt on fourth down. All day long, the power of bad governs people’s moods, drives marketing campaigns, and dominates news and politics. Eminent social scientist Roy F. Baumeister stumbled unexpectedly upon this fundamental aspect of human nature. To find out why financial losses mattered more to people than financial gains, Baumeister looked for situations in which good events made a bigger impact than bad ones. But his team couldn’t find any. Their research showed that bad is relentlessly stronger than good, and their paper has become one of the most-cited in the scientific literature. Our brain’s negativity bias makes evolutionary sense because it kept our ancestors alert to fatal dangers, but it distorts our perspective in today’s media environment. The steady barrage of bad news and crisismongering makes us feel helpless and leaves us needlessly fearful and angry. We ignore our many blessings, preferring to heed—and vote for—the voices telling us the world is going to hell. But once we recognize our negativity bias, the rational brain can overcome the power of bad when it’s harmful and employ that power when it’s beneficial. In fact, bad breaks and bad feelings create the most powerful incentives to become smarter and stronger. Properly understood, bad can be put to perfectly good use. As noted science journalist John Tierney and Baumeister show in this wide-ranging book, we can adopt proven strategies to avoid the pitfalls that doom relationships, careers, businesses, and nations. Instead of despairing at what’s wrong in your life and in the world, you can see how much is going right—and how to make it still better.

Effects of Different Nutrition on the Performance of Athletes. A Comparative Study between the Football Clubs of Hawassa Ketema and Southern Police from Ethiopia by Abdulkerim Ahmed Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Health - Sport - Sport Medicine, Therapy, Prevention, Nutrition, grade: A+, Haramaya University, language: English, abstract: The reason why the researcher selected these two clubs is that both clubs are found in Hawassa, they enjoy the same environment, they play their home game on the same pitch, and the only difference that exists between the two clubs is the way how they feed. South Police feeds in the camp while Hawassa Ketema feeds in the hotel. So the researcher wants to know how it affects them. Hence, this study was attempted to answer the following basic research questions. First: What are the daily calorie intakes of the players? Second: What are the major types of diets consumed? Third: Is there a balance between caloric intake and caloric expenditure? Fourth: Do age and body weight of the players is taken in to consideration in the dietary intake? So far no Ethiopian research on the diet and performance of Ethiopian premier league clubs particularly regarded the aspects of nutrition. In Ethiopian premier league history a number of clubs struggled hardly to stay on the league, unfortunately they relegated to the super league on the same year due to different reasons. Majority of the players and coaches are heard when blaming the referee, pitch, training strategy, game tactics, individual technics and weather conditions to lose the game. No one cared about the effect of diet on the outcome of the game. However, like physical training program, if each and every club intended to follow appropriate nutrition program for their players, the expected result would be remarkable. It is clear that nutrition has an effect on sports performance. Sport nutrition is a rapidly growing field and is the science of improving sporting performance by tailoring specific food and fluid recommendations to an athlete. It is known that factors such as dehydration and a lack of energy supply can limit performance. As expressed in Foundation Soccer Coaching Manual, nutrition is an important part of any successful training program. Food is the fuel of athletic performance. Though the coach cannot control his/her athlete's food, rather he/she can guide them toward healthy eating. For this purpose, the coach should be acquainted with the basic of proper nutrition.

The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo Pdf

The definitive firsthand account of the groundbreaking research of Philip Zimbardo—the basis for the award-winning film The Stanford Prison Experiment Renowned social psychologist and creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment Philip Zimbardo explores the mechanisms that make good people do bad things, how moral people can be seduced into acting immorally, and what this says about the line separating good from evil. The Lucifer Effect explains how—and the myriad reasons why—we are all susceptible to the lure of “the dark side.” Drawing on examples from history as well as his own trailblazing research, Zimbardo details how situational forces and group dynamics can work in concert to make monsters out of decent men and women. Here, for the first time and in detail, Zimbardo tells the full story of the Stanford Prison Experiment, the landmark study in which a group of college-student volunteers was randomly divided into “guards” and “inmates” and then placed in a mock prison environment. Within a week the study was abandoned, as ordinary college students were transformed into either brutal, sadistic guards or emotionally broken prisoners. By illuminating the psychological causes behind such disturbing metamorphoses, Zimbardo enables us to better understand a variety of harrowing phenomena, from corporate malfeasance to organized genocide to how once upstanding American soldiers came to abuse and torture Iraqi detainees in Abu Ghraib. He replaces the long-held notion of the “bad apple” with that of the “bad barrel”—the idea that the social setting and the system contaminate the individual, rather than the other way around. This is a book that dares to hold a mirror up to mankind, showing us that we might not be who we think we are. While forcing us to reexamine what we are capable of doing when caught up in the crucible of behavioral dynamics, though, Zimbardo also offers hope. We are capable of resisting evil, he argues, and can even teach ourselves to act heroically. Like Hannah Arendt’s Eichmann in Jerusalem and Steven Pinker’s The Blank Slate, The Lucifer Effect is a shocking, engrossing study that will change the way we view human behavior. Praise for The Lucifer Effect “The Lucifer Effect will change forever the way you think about why we behave the way we do—and, in particular, about the human potential for evil. This is a disturbing book, but one that has never been more necessary.”—Malcolm Gladwell “An important book . . . All politicians and social commentators . . . should read this.”—The Times (London) “Powerful . . . an extraordinarily valuable addition to the literature of the psychology of violence or ‘evil.’”—The American Prospect “Penetrating . . . Combining a dense but readable and often engrossing exposition of social psychology research with an impassioned moral seriousness, Zimbardo challenges readers to look beyond glib denunciations of evil-doers and ponder our collective responsibility for the world’s ills.”—Publishers Weekly “A sprawling discussion . . . Zimbardo couples a thorough narrative of the Stanford Prison Experiment with an analysis of the social dynamics of the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.”—Booklist “Zimbardo bottled evil in a laboratory. The lessons he learned show us our dark nature but also fill us with hope if we heed their counsel. The Lucifer Effect reads like a novel.”—Anthony Pratkanis, Ph.D., professor emeritus of psychology, University of California

Tim Tebow credits his mom with being the key to his success--but Pam never expected that she would be known on a national stage. For most of her life, she was serving quietly and faithfully as a wife and a mom--choosing life for her child in the face of medical risks, answering the Lord's call to mission work in the Philippines, and homeschooling before anyone knew what the word meant. But all along the way, her experiences--and her consistent, everyday choices to follow the Lord and to serve wherever He placed her--were creating unexpected ripples of influence throughout her family, her community, and her world. And they would end up extending far beyond anything she ever imagined. Pam believes that every one of us can be influential--and that deep within a woman's heart is the desire to use her influence for good. In Ripple Effects, Pam uncovers and explores the miraculous motivating power of influence we can have on this generation and the next, no matter where we are planted in life. The Butterfly Effect by Marcus J. Moore Pdf

This “smart, confident, and necessary” (Shea Serrano, New York Times bestselling author) first cultural biography of rap superstar and “master of storytelling” (The New Yorker) Kendrick Lamar explores his meteoric rise to fame and his profound impact on a racially fraught America—perfect for fans of Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s Empire State of Mind. Kendrick Lamar is at the top of his game. The thirteen-time Grammy Award-winning rapper is just in his early thirties, but he’s already won the Pulitzer Prize for Music, produced and curated the soundtrack of the megahit film Black Panther, and has been named one of Time’s 100 Influential People. But what’s even more striking about the Compton-born lyricist and performer is how he’s established himself as a formidable adversary of oppression and force for change. Through his confessional poetics, his politically charged anthems, and his radical performances, Lamar has become a beacon of light for countless people. Written by veteran journalist and music critic Marcus J. Moore, this is much more than the first biography of Kendrick Lamar. “It’s an analytical deep dive into the life of that good kid whose m.A.A.d city raised him, and how it sparked a fire within Kendrick Lamar to change history” (Kathy Iandoli, author of Baby Girl) for the better.
