The Unfolding Agony of Oppression by Andrew Sangster Pdf

Victor Klemperer was a German-Jewish Professor who somehow survived the Nazi regime, only to find himself under post-war Soviet domination. His diaries (1933-1959) contain the life of Klemperer, his views on Hitler and Germany through to the Soviet era, and contain a window on dangerous events by an intelligent and educated man. He frequently commented on everyday Germans’ reactions to major events, the state of mind of the persecuted Jews, the conflicting rumours of the war, the growing knowledge of the concentration camps, and the prohibitions against Jews, with the intensifying persecution and Jewish reaction. Initially an anti-communist he converted to this political philosophy in East Germany and then changes his mind before he died, recognising the German Democratic Republic as the ‘lesser evil’ but also the ‘Fourth Reich’. There have been many political and military books on the German period of 1933-1959, but this unique insight offers a social history of life in Germany, with the question of morality and everyday ethics constantly between the lines. Klemperer’s 1933-1959 diary, published in English in 1998, ran to three volumes, and more than 800,000 words This book is written with the aim of analysing and presenting the most prominent and significant themes. It will be of interest to historians, sociologists, and students of German-Jewish history before, during and after the Second World War.

Unfolding the Living Word by Jim Cotter Pdf

Within the Common Worship order for Holy Communion, there is a core of texts and material which must be said or done in order that the service can be recognized as authentic. However, there are other variants which may be used. This book provides new alternative texts for those variable points in the liturgy to refresh the celebration of Holy Communion. For each Sunday of Years A, B & C there are new liturgical texts for the Kyrie eleison, the psalm, the acclamation that introduces the Gospel of the day, and an additional collect which could be used at the end of the sermon or after the distribution of communion.Very few writers have the poetic sensibility and ability to take ordinary language and imagery and create prayers and responses of beauty and depth. Rooted in the tradition of scriptural imagery and metaphor for speaking of God, Jim Cotter's poetic richness will enlarge our imagination and capacity for worship.

Knot of the Soul by Stefania Pandolfo Pdf

Through a dual engagement with the unconscious in psychoanalysis and Islamic theological-medical reasoning, Stefania Pandolfo’s unsettling and innovative book reflects on the maladies of the soul at a time of tremendous global upheaval. Drawing on in-depth historical research and testimonies of contemporary patients and therapists in Morocco, Knot of the Soul offers both an ethnographic journey through madness and contemporary formations of despair and a philosophical and theological exploration of the vicissitudes of the soul. Knot of the Soul moves from the experience of psychosis in psychiatric hospitals, to the visionary torments of the soul in poor urban neighborhoods, to the melancholy and religious imaginary of undocumented migration, culminating in the liturgical stage of the Qur’anic cure. Demonstrating how contemporary Islamic cures for madness address some of the core preoccupations of the psychoanalytic approach, she reveals how a religious and ethical relation to the “ordeal” of madness might actually allow for spiritual transformation. This sophisticated and evocative work illuminates new dimensions of psychoanalysis and the ethical imagination while also sensitively examining the collective psychic strife that so many communities endure today.

All about the Bass by Scott R. Burson Pdf

Many Christians are engaged in a bass-pounding culture war in which fidelity to our tribe demands a constant call to arms. This antagonistic posture, however, erects walls, deepens divides, and mutes empathy. All about the Bass takes a different approach by offering fresh and faithful sheet music. Using the metaphor of an audio equalizer, Dr. Scott Burson proposes ten action steps designed to turn up the treble of empathic compassion without compromising the bass of righteous conviction. In the first extensive Christian engagement with Jonathan Haidt’s Moral Foundations Theory, All about the Bass is academically grounded, yet written for a broad audience. Filled with practical advice and elevating stories of hope, it will inspire readers to move from hostility to hospitality. If you have been longing to sing a better song in our discordant world, All about the Bass is the book for you.
