The Unseen Realm by Heiser, Michael S. Pdf

In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of Scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's Word. Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her? How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood? Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his Angel together in his prayer? Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over? In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions? Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits? Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership? Who are the "glorious ones" that even angels dare not rebuke? After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again. Endorsements "There is a world referred to in the Scripture that is quite unseen, but also quite present and active. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm seeks to unmask this world. Heiser shows how important it is to understand this world and appreciate how its contribution helps to make sense of Scripture. The book is clear and well done, treating many ideas and themes that often go unseen themselves. With this book, such themes will no longer be neglected, so read it and discover a new realm for reflection about what Scripture teaches." --Darrell L. Bock, Executive Director for Cultural Engagement, Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies, Howard G. Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership and Cultural Engagement "'How was it possible that I had never seen that before?' Dr. Heiser's survey of the complex reality of the supernatural world as the Scriptures portray it covers a subject that is strangely sidestepped. No one is going to agree with everything in his book, but the subject deserves careful study, and so does this book." --John Goldingay, David Allan Hubbard Professor of Old Testament, School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary "This is a 'big' book in the best sense of the term. It is big in its scope and in its depth of analysis. Michael Heiser is a scholar who knows Scripture intimately in its ancient cultural context. All--scholars, clergy, and laypeople--who read this profound and accessible book will grow in their understanding of both the Old and New Testaments, particularly as their eyes are opened to the Bible's 'unseen world.'" --Tremper Longman III, Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies, Westmont College

Supernatural by Heiser, Michael S. Pdf

Dr. Michael S. Heiser presents fifteen years of research on what the Bible really says about the unseen world of the supernatural, unfiltered by tradition or by theological presuppositions. Who were the sons of God? Who were the Nephilim? Where do angels fit into the supernatural hierarchy? What relation does Jesus bear to the rest of the supernatural world? Heiser tackles these questions and many more as he shines a light on the ancient context of Scripture. After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again. In Supernatural, Heiser takes the core message from his recent best-seller, The Unseen Realm, and presents it for the person in the pew. He offers the same approach to reading and understanding Scripture, but without all the extra footnotes and supporting information needed for the scholarly treatment. “We can’t believe what we don’t understand. In Supernatural, Michael Heiser helps us to do both. It may open your eyes to the scripture in a new way.” —John Ortberg, author of If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat

A Realm of Unknown by K. M. McIntyre Pdf

Something is stalking Thea Sotiris. And it doesn't belong in Chicago.Twenty-eight year old Thea may not have a strong connection to her family lineage, but when monstrous creatures and strange voices plague her dreams, she can't help but wonder if she is going crazy. Just like her mother did.But when Matthew, a homeless man with a past more clouded than her own enters her life, he not only believes her dreams, but he can see the very creatures that hunt her. To find the answers Thea seeks, they must embark on a journey together, which entangles their futures more than either one of them can predict. As they draw closer to their answers, they find that the most logical explanation for all of it is the scariest. That Thea isn't from Chicago . . . or Earth. That Thea isn't human at all. This is the first book in the multi-book series, A Child of Light."A beautiful love story involving an imaginative and magical realm. The book pulls you in from the beginning. Thea is destined for greatness!" - Liz Dulac, Advanced Reader"Meet Thea, the independent, sassy and hard working protagonist who stands up for herself and for others without a second thought. Thea's used to being on her own and handling what comes her way, but when she starts seeing creatures that are not of this world, she begins questioning her own sanity. That is, until she meets a mysterious stranger who not only believes her, but knows exactly what she's seeing. She forms a fast and furious bond with this mystery man who she dubs "Matthew", and the two decide to figure out exactly why and how these beings from another realm came to be here.I really enjoyed this book! I absolutely could not put it down and I devoured it in one sitting. Though I started off loving Thea, I was not her biggest fan by the end of the book. I loved how tenacious and outspoken she was, but it goes to show that sometimes our strengths can be our weaknesses as well. A loud mouth can be a wonderful thing at the right time and place, but Thea has yet to master the art of knowing when and where to spout off. With that being said, I loved her connection with "Matthew". Well, I loved Matthew. He was all of my celebrity crushes jammed into one massive package and I was thrilled! As soon as we were introduced to him, it was game over for me and I knew I was pulling an all-nighter. I loved unraveling themysteries with these characters and I am very excited to see where the next installment in the series takes us!" - Lindsay Hall, Advanced Reader

Meaning and Power in a Southeast Asian Realm by Shelly Errington Pdf

The ruler in the Indic States of Southeast Asia was seen not as the "head of state" but as the center or navel of the world. Like polities, persons and houses were and are viewed as centered spaces (locations) where spiritual potency can gather. Shelly Errington explores the politics of constituting and maintaining such centered socio-political spaces in a former Indic State called Luwu, which lies in South Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia. The meaning of political life and the ways its cultural forms were and are sustained depend on locally construed ideas of "power" or spiritual potency and "the person," which the author explores in detail. She views the polity neither as a frame in which political actors pursue advantage nor as a structure for extracting wealth but as a hierarchical system of signs ultimately backed by force--but force which was not fully centralized and whose import must be understood within ideas about spiritual potency widespread in the region. Although focused on Luwu, the book's theoretical scope is wide, and it ranges comparatively over a broad geographical area, making a contribution to ethnographic, historical, and regional studies as well as to the study of politics in nonsecular societies. Part One traces how the person, the house, and the polity are constituted symbolically in everyday practices as centered spaces. Part Two examines how centers can be de-centered, while Part Three explores the structure that tended to hold centers together in Luwu and other Indic States. The introduction and the three conclusions (each of the three being broader than the last in comparative scope) locate the author's views with respect to other current theoretical approaches to power and culture. Journeys to the Underworld and Heavenly Realm in Ancient and Medieval Literature by John C. Stephens Pdf

Concepts of heaven and hell are among the oldest, most widespread religious beliefs in history. In Western literature, they are frequently embedded in stories of underworld explorations and celestial journeys—stories examining the nature of the universe, life on earth and the existence of the gods. The author analyzes tales of wonder in both ancient and medieval European literature. Other-worldly narratives appeared in literary contexts in the ancient world, including mythology, poetry and philosophical writings. In medieval times, they remained a popular form of literary expression. These stories are primarily religious in nature, describing fantastic worlds filled with miracles and supernatural beings.
