The Unsired by Lee Duke Pdf

Throw away your crucifix, for it will not protect you, not in this chillingly original take on the vampire legend. Its a tale of bloody revenge that will expose the modern-day workings of the Vampire Clans and their constant war with those who would hunt them to extinction. Its a story that explains away the myths handed down through centuries of ignorance that keeps us from believing the horrifying truth about the real vampires living among us today. It is the winter of 1362 in what was then a small Lithuanian farming village on the edge of the Carpathian Mountains. A man and a child lay dead, their throats savagely ripped open and their bodies drained of blood. The mans pregnant wife, on hearing the news, goes into premature labor, giving birth to an underdeveloped baby boy. The infant is not expected to live, and the mother remains weak and sickly. The attending midwives leave the two of them alone to share what precious moments they have left together. The creature responsible for the attacks is an injured vampire being chased through the nearby forest by a band of determined Hunters. In his need for blood to repair both the injuries and replenish his strength, the vampire doubles back, losing the Hunters in the process. Reentering the village, hidden from sight by the raging storm and the dark of night, the vampire breaks into one of the small homes to feed upon the defenseless mother as she clutches her newborn baby protectively to her breast. In the course of his savage feeding, the vampire unknowingly allows some of his own blood and that of the mother to spill into the infants mouth. The blood feeds and nurtures the dying infant, turning him into something very, very different. This horrific act will set in motion a series of events that will leave a trail of death and destruction across seven centuries and three continents, before it finally reaches the new lands of America. One man, not quite human or of the undead, will stand between the two warring factions of Hunters and Vampires, a saviour to some and a deadly enemy to others, and this is his story. Like “Blade” meets “Bond,” directed by Tarantino.

Limbodeswill?s Wain by M. F. Dail Pdf

Dickey Tonking, a favorite student of troubled professor Barry Richter, is called upon to deliver a paper to an assembly of peers during Richter's illness. In doing so, he radically distorts the original text and almost unconsciously includes ideas of his own. But when the professor dies in a fire that looks suspiciously like a suicide, his protégé is left to face the academic consequences. Worse yet, when Dickey unwittingly becomes involved in an attempted murder of a girl by a jealous lover, he shoots the villain during a scuffle. As the girl, Cissy, flees the scene, both she and Dickey have no idea they will soon begin a rocky relationship with unforeseen consequences. To escape the police after the shooting, Dickey travels to South Africa, where he hopes to rekindle a liaison with a doctor; however, she soon terminates the relationship. Just as Dickey finds himself intrigued by a nurse, the police finally catch up with him. He is flown home under guard, tried, and sentenced to several years in jail. Visited by Cissy in prison, Dickey is relieved when his innocence is finally acknowledged. But now only time will tell whether their relationship will last-or whether he will ever be able to shake his obsession with the nurse he left behind. Limbodeswill's Wain shares the tale of a young man's coming-of-age journey as he faces many challenges, learns to love, and discovers his destiny.

NoVA by James Boice Pdf

Grayson Donald, seventeen years old, has just hanged himself from a basketball hoop next to a playground in Centreville, North Virginia (NoVA). The question is, Why? In this incisive dissection of the author's hometown, James Boice scratches its shiny suburban surface to reveal a place formed from "a cloud that slid west and met with the humidity and spent buckshot cartridges and Civil War bones clad in blue and gray to create concrete and vinyl siding and front yards laid in chunks, child care centers and video rental places." An exciting new voice in fiction, James Boice blends sharp social observations with dark humor and remarkable prose. In both passing glimpses and intimate interior monologues, we come to know Grayson's family, his fellow students, his neighbors, and many who knew him only slightly, if at all. A portrait of a town emerges that renders Grayson's suicide both devastating and inevitable. NoVA is a unique and fascinating depiction of the American suburb.

The Artistry of Aeschylus and Zeami by Mae J. Smethurst Pdf

By means of a cross-cultural analysis of selected examples of early Japanese and early Greek drama, Mae Smethurst enhances our appreciation of each form. While using the methods of a classicist to increase our understanding of no as literary texts, she also demonstrates that the fifteenth-century treatises of Zeami--an important playwright, actor, critic, and teacher of no--offer fresh insight into Aeschylus' use of actors, language, and various elements of stage presentation. Relatively little documentation apart from the texts of the plays is available for the Greek theater of the fifth century B.C., but Smethurst uses documentation on no, and evidence from no performances today, to suggest how presentations of the Persians could have been so successful despite the play's lack of dramatic confrontation. Aeschylean theater resembles that of Zeami in creating its powerful emotional and aesthetic effect through a coherent organization of structural elements. Both playwrights used such methods as the gradual intensification of rhythmic and musical effects, an increase in the number and complexity of the actors' movements, and a progressive focusing of attention on the main actors and on costumes, masks, and props during the course of the play.
