A Blessing in Disguise / the Seasons of Life by Jovial Smith Pdf

Writing my two plays, titled A Blessing in Disguise and The Seasons of Life, has inspired me in different ways. I wrote both plays with the intention of demonstrating my songwriting, poetry, and artistic skills. I have learned that even though I have cerebral palsy, there is no end to what I can do. In other words, I never limit myself because I have a physical challenge. I have been blessed with the ability to use my hands and mind to create and inspire. Writing these songs took focus and dedication. I was able to bring some of the characters to life by adding poetry because it shows his or her emotions. I believe everyone has been endowed by God with distinctive characteristics, gifts, and talents in order that he or she may fulfill his or her God-given purpose in life. I enjoy developing my talents. Hopefully, through my hard work and efforts, I will inspire others to pursue his or her dreams. I exercise and keep myself fit. I have always wanted to stand straight and tall on my own, and miraculously, the other day I did. I have a bachelors degree in Creative Writing and a masters degree in English Literature (East Carolina Alumni Class of 2008, Greenville, North Carolina). I continue to strive and keep myself informed of world changes. I also find that it is gratifying to be able to share a talent or a skill with others. My areas of expertise include writing and proofreading. Genres I typically work with include poetry, short stories, fiction, nonfiction, and newsletters. Im the author and editor of the play Blackberry Molasses.

Limit by Frank Schatzing Pdf

Frank Schatzing's The Swarm was an international science-fiction blockbuster, winner of the Koln Literatur Prize, the Corine Prize, and the German Science Fiction Prize. Limit is his most ambitious work to-date--a multilayered thriller that balances astonishing scientific, historical, and technical detail. Against this backdrop, Schatzing convincingly realizes a possible near future when humankind's ingenuity may become the greatest risk to its continued existence. In 2025, entrepreneur Julian Orley opens the first-ever hotel on the moon. But Orley Enterprises deals in more than space tourism--it also operates the world's only space elevator, which in addition to allowing the very wealthy to play tennis on the lunar surface connects Earth with the moon and enables the transportation of helium-3, the fuel of the future, back to the planet. Julian has invited twenty-one of the world's richest and most powerful individuals to sample his brand-new lunar accommodation, hoping to secure the finances for a second elevator. On Earth, meanwhile, cybercop Owen Jericho is sent to Shanghai to find a young female hacker known as Yoyo, who's been on the run since acquiring access to information that someone seems quite determined to keep quiet. As Jericho closes in on the girl and the conspiracy swirling around her, he finds mounting evidence that connects her to Julian Orley as well as to the entrepreneur's many competitors and enemies. Soon, the detective realizes that the lunar junket to Orley's hotel is in real and immediate danger. From the Hardcover edition.

The Boundaries of Fiction by Everett Zimmerman Pdf

Focusing on canonical works by Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Laurence Sterne, and others, this book explains the relationship between British fiction and historical writing when both were struggling to attain status and authority. History was at once powerful and vulnerable in the empiricist climate of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century England, suspect because of its reliance on testimony, yet essential if empiricism were ever to move beyond natural philosophy. The Boundaries of Fiction shows how, in this time of historiographical instability, the British novel exploited analogies to history. Titles incorporating the term ?history,? pseudo-editors presenting pseudo-documentary ?evidence,? and narrative theorizing about historical truth were some of the means used to distinguish novels from the fictions of poetry and other literary forms. These efforts, Everett Zimmerman maintains, amounted to a critique of history's limits and pointed to the novel's power to transcend them. He offers rich analyses of texts central to the tradition of the novel, chiefly Clarissa, Tom Jones, and Tristram Shandy, and concludes with discussions of Sir Walter Scott's development of the historical novel and David Hume's philosophy of history. Along the way, Zimmerman refers to such other important historical figures as John Locke, Richard Bentley, William Wotton, and Edward Gibbon and engages contemporary thinkers, including Paul Ricoeur and Michel Foucault, who have addressed the philosophical and methodological issues of historical evidence and narrative.

Privacy Limitation Clauses by Robert van den Hoven van Genderen Pdf

The fundamental right to privacy, in the sense of non-interference by government, is protected by international and national law. Nonetheless, today the laws of privacy are being stretched to their limits and even violated by governments in the name of security. This book, by one of Europe’s most trusted authorities on the legal aspects of telecommunications technology, analyses the use of legal instruments by government agencies to determine if they restrict the fundamental right of privacy and if the grounds to do so are acceptable within a democratic society. Unpacking the complexity of the various factors on each side – privacy and the general interest of safety – the author clearly describes the relevant tensions in the following major areas of current law: – data protection regulations; – regulations on interception and retention of personal data in the telecommunication sector; – anti–money laundering; and – strategies used to protect national security against terrorist activities. The analysis pays detailed attention to the relevant provisions of international and regional conventions, to deliberated principles and guidelines, and to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and other courts at every level. Legal theories of sovereignty are also taken into account. This is the most thorough treatment available of the grounds and circumstances that state agencies invoke to intrude upon citizens’ rights of privacy and the procedures in place to legitimize these intrusions. Its ultimate contribution – the setting forth of a set of circumstances under which the limitation of privacy should be allowed, including a consideration of what principles and conditions should underpin this policy – will prove of inestimable value to policymakers, government institutions, and practitioners in several fi elds related to human rights. Robert van den Hoven van Genderen has worked as a legal expert on telecommunications technology, regulation of the Internet, and anti–money laundering measures in both public and private sectors, in addition to legal and academic practice.
