From Page to Screen / Vom Buch zum Film by Manuel Almagro-Jiménez,Eva Parra-Membrives Pdf

For a long time now, women have struggled for the vindication of their rights and for their visibility. This struggle may seem a story of success, maybe not complete or equal for all women, but at least one which slowly but surely carries with it the promise of equality for all women. However, a closer look reveals that in various fields of culture the representation of women frequently undergoes a manipulation which makes the image of women lose the intention initially attempted. This is often the case with adaptations of literary texts to the screen, when the initial literary message is changed because of, for example, marketing demands or some ideological stance. Rarely do we find the opposite case where the indifferent or emasculated original female characters are turned into guardians and/or apologists of feminine power. The present volume focuses precisely on the way in which the image of women is modified in films and TV series, when compared with the original literary texts.

Travels with CJ by rog by Roger Keith Kallenbach,Carol Jane Kallenbach Pdf

This is a book about CJ and me traveling life's road with family and friends. It dares to share many of our stories, sometimes revealing some of our dreams and telling of our challenges, our travels, our homes, some of our successes, as well as some of our failings. Stories that disclose who we are, who we were, who we have become, and at times, who we think we are. Stories about some of what we believe and sometimes why we believe what we believe. We hope that our stories build a bridge from where we were to where we are, and they are inviting enough to encourage you to walk into our space and time and help you discover why you are of so much value to the world we all live and make a difference in. Some of our stories help us realize that we--especially we who are born in the United States, even in some of the direst circumstances--are born with the potential of becoming incredibly wealthy, through the gift of love, even as our bank accounts struggle to maintain a mediocre balance. It is our hope that many of our stories will pass the peace of God unto you and among you all.

The Broken Violin by M. Bradley Davis Pdf

The Grim Reaper's scythe barely missed his head. He wished it hadn't. Stephen Ingalls has quite enough on his plate. Starting his freshman year at Clarkstowne High School-a tough enough challenge for any young man-he finds that he and his friend Doug have been given the unprecedented opportunity to become the first student conductors of the high school orchestra. Dr. Donaldson, their teacher and mentor, will help them push the limits of their talents while weathering the storm of controversy and opposition to this innovative program. When Stephen meets Jason Anderson, he seems to know instinctively that the young man will also be important to him this new school year. It isn't that Jason is using a wheelchair, nor even that the boy is still grieving the loss of his best friend, Tony-killed in the same accident that caused Jason to lose the use of his legs. Jason has lost something else: The connection to a musical ability that Stephen is certain still burns inside. Jason is convinced that his music died with Tony, with the violin-a twin to his own-damaged in the accident. Doctors are certain that Jason's paralysis is psychological, that he could walk if only they could find and treat the dark blockage in his mind. Stephen, determined not to let either talent or hope disappear, must find the way to mend the pieces of the broken heart-and the broken violin-to help Jason overcome the past and live beyond the day the music died.

The King of Violins by M.G. Crisci,Cheng Ken Chi, Ph.D. Pdf

HOW CHINA'S MOST CELEBRATED VIOLIN PRODIGY BECAME AN ENEMY OF STATE. The King of Violins is the heartbreaking story of China's most celebrated violin prodigy, Ma Sicong, who composed his first concerto at the age of 12. During his career, this gentle, dignified man composed 57 of the world's best-known symphonies and concertos and performed in front of hundreds of sold-out audiences across the globe. Chairman Mao Zedong declared Ma Sicong "a national treasure" and nicknamed him The King of Violins. Soon, Chairman Mao's brutal Cultural Revolution distorted the truth of Ma's life and work. He is forced to wear a dunce cap, and is publicly humiliated and physically abused by cadres of Red Guards as "a vile product of bourgeois thinking." Ma and his family make a breath-taking escape in the darkness to America. After Chairman Mao died in 1976, the real circumstances of Ma's poignant, bittersweet life were buried in the pages of history by an embarrassed Chinese government. Eleven years later, Ma died at the age of 76 in Philadelphia. The King of Violins, written in cooperation with all of Ma's remaining family members, and is the first politically balanced life story about this generous, conflicted musical genius. (Contains 89 rare vintage photographs).

The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick Pdf

A New York Times bestseller, The Silver Linings Playbook was adapted into the Oscar-winning movie starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. It tells the riotous and poignant story of how one man regains his memory and comes to terms with the magnitude of his wife's betrayal. During the years he spends in a neural health facility, Pat Peoples formulates a theory about silver linings: he believes his life is a movie produced by God, his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki; his old friends are saddled with families; the Philadelphia Eagles keep losing, making his father moody; and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy. When Pat meets the tragically widowed and clinically depressed Tiffany, she offers to act as a liaison between him and his wife, if only he will give up watching football, agree to perform in this year's Dance Away Depression competition, and promise not to tell anyone about their "contract." All the while, Pat keeps searching for his silver lining. In this brilliantly written debut novel, Matthew Quick takes us inside Pat's mind, deftly showing us the world from his distorted yet endearing perspective. The result is a touching and funny story that helps us look at both depression and love in a wonderfully refreshing way.

Erasing Memory by Scott Thornley Pdf

The heart-pounding first installment of the MacNeice Mysteries, featuring a sophisticated detective solving the horrific murder of a beautiful young violinist — perfect for fans of Peter Robinson’s Alan Banks series. Detective Superintendent MacNeice is returning from a pilgrimage to his wife’s grave when he’s called to a crime scene of singular and disturbing beauty. A young woman in evening dress lies gracefully posed on the floor of a pristine summer cottage so that the finger of one hand regularly interrupts the needle arm of a phonograph playing Schubert’s Piano Trio. The only visible mark on her is the bruise under her chin, which MacNeice recognizes: it is the mark that distinguishes dedicated violinists, the same mark that once graced his wife. The murder is both ingenious and horrific, and soon entangles MacNeice and his team in Eastern Europe’s ancient grievances...
