The Wayman's Code by R.J. Wilson Pdf

The explosive sequel to “The Wayman’s Code: Awakening”—a perfect fit for fans of Legendborn and Bleach. When light is removed, all that remains is darkness. A crouching, ravenous, darkness. While the summer holidays present a break for normal students, sixteen-year-old Maleek Warden knows no such a luxury. Whether it's trying to track down the elusive Christopher Lyles or dealing with the rampant demonic activity in a region gone dark, Maleek and his friends have their hands full. And if that alone wasn’t difficult enough: Mysterious, supernatural blackouts plague the country—blackouts which seem to animate people towards violence. And an underground society of masked cultists is plotting something right under their nose. If Maleek and friends are going to recover the stolen sacred items, restore the region, and stay one step ahead of the shadowmen, Maleek just may need the help of unlikely sources… perhaps from the woman whose partnership draws him more than he cares to admit. And to make matters worse, something is wrong with Maleek. It's not just the ancient writing spreading across his skin, nor his unruly powers. It's something deep inside. Something cold… alive… and evil.

The Bodhisattva Path by Anonim Pdf

The Inquiry of Ugra (Ugrapariprccha) is one of the most influential Mahayana sutras, preserved and transmitted in both India and China over many centuries and actively quoted in treatises on the bodhisattva path. It is, nevertheless, one of the most neglected texts in Western treatments of Buddhism. The Ugra appers to be one of the earliest bodhisattva scriptures to come down to us, and as such it offers a particularly valuable window on the process by which the bodhisattva path came to be seen as a distinct vocational alternative within certain Indian Buddhist communities. The Bodhisattva Path is a study and translation of the Ugra that will fundamentally alter previous perceptions of the way in which Mahayana was viewed and practiced by its earliest adherents. To achieve a better understanding of the universe of ideas, activities, and institutional structures within which early self-proclaimed bodhisattvas lived, the author first considers the Ugra as a literary document, employing new methodological tools to examine the genre to which it belong, the age of its extant versions, and their relationships to one another. She goes on to challenge the dominant notions that the Mahayana emerged as a reform of earlier Buddhism and offered lay people an easier option. On the contrary, the picture that emerges is of the early Mahayana as a more difficult and demanding vocation, initially limited to a small contingent of monastic males. Combining a detailed critical study and translation of an important Buddhist scripture with a sweeping re-examination of the relationship between the Buddha and the practitioners alike and other interested in the history of Indian Buddhism and the formation of Mahayana.

Sexualities and Irish Society by Máire Leane,Elizabeth Kiely Pdf

In Ireland, recent social, cultural and political changes combined with globalisation, commercialisation and new technologies have re-shaped how we understand and think about sexuality. There is now a multiplicity of ways in which individuals can experience their sexuality, negotiate their sexual identities and advocate for sexual rights. Meanwhile, sexualities continue to be denied, problematised and subjected to regulation. The ongoing exchanges between real-life sexualities and the social contexts in which they are forged, provides the core focus of this book. Sexualities and Irish Society explores the construction and management of sexualities across a number of different sites, including the family, the legal and education systems, medical and therapeutic settings, and cultural and commercial arenas. Engaging with both theoretical and empirical material, the authors analyse the power relations within which sexualities are constructed, resisted and reconstructed. Written by academics, researchers, advocates and practitioners, this is the first comprehensive academic text on sexualities in Irish society. It showcases the best of recent scholarship from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Sexualities and Irish Society is a valuable resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students in social policy, social care, social work, sociology, women's studies, cultural studies, history, politics and studies of the body. It should also appeal to activists, campaigners and professional practitioners.

The Chinese Hevajratantra by Anonim Pdf

The Hevajrantra, the well-known Anuttarayogatantra, about `unsurpassed yoga`, is a direct successor of the Tattvasamgraha, a yogatantra. It was translated from Sanskrit into Chinese in the 11th century. The Chinese translators offer a text which remains true to its contents, but which is at the same time acceptable to the Chinese milieu of the 11th century. This diplomatic effort explains many discrepancies, which were no problem to the initiate.

The Buddha Nature by Brian Edward Brown,Brian Brown Pdf

One of the fundamental tenets of Mahayana Buddhism animating and grounding the doctrine and discipline of its spiritual path, is the inherent potentiality of all animate beings to attain the supreme and perfect enlightenment of Buddhahood. This book examines the ontological presuppositions and the corresponding soteriological-epistemological principles that sustain and define such a theory. Within the field of Buddhist studies, such a work provides a comprehensive context in which to interpret the influence and major insights of the various Buddhist schools. Thus, the dynamics of the Buddha Nature, though non-thematic and implicit, is at the heart of Zen praxis, while it is a significant articulation in Kegon, Tendai, and Shingon thought. More specifically, the book seeks to establish a coherent metaphysics of absolute suchness (Tathata), synthesizing the variant traditions of the Tathagata-embryo (Tathagatagarbha) and the Storehouse Consciousness (Alayavijnana). The books` contribution to the broader field of the History of Religions rests in its presentation and analysis of the Buddhist Enlightenment as the salvific-transformational moment in which Tathata `awakens` to itself, comes to perfect slef-realization as the Absolute suchness of reality, in and through phenomenal human consciousness. The book is an interpretation of the Buddhist Path as the spontaneous self-emergence of `embryonic` absolute knowledge as it comes to free itself from the concealments of adventitious defilements, and possess itself in fully self-explicitated self-consciousness as the `Highest Truth` and unconditional nature of all existence; it does so only in the form of omniscient wisdom.

The Legend of King Aśoka by John S. Strong Pdf

This first English translation of the Asokavadana text, the Sanskrit version of the legend of King Asoka, first written in the second century A.D. Emperor of India during the third century B.C. and one of the most important rulers in the history of Buddhism. Asoka has hitherto been studied in the West primarily from his edicts and rock inscriptions in many parts of the Indian subcontinent. Through an extensive critical essay and a fluid translation, John Strong examines the importance of the Asoka of the legends for our overall understanding of Buddhism. Professor Strong contrasts the text with the Pali traditions about Kind Asoka and discusses the Buddhist view of kingship, the relationship of the state and the Buddhist community, the king s role in relating his kingdom to the person of the Buddha, and the connection between merit making, cosmology, and Buddhist doctrine. An appendix provides summaries of other stories about Asoka.
