The Wisdom and Genius of Shakespeare by William Shakespeare Pdf

Excerpt from The Wisdom and Genius of Shakespeare: Comprising Moral Philosophy Delineations of Character Paintings of Nature and the Passions Seven Hundred Aphorisms and Miscellaneous Pieces Many works consisting of compilations from the writings of Shakspeare have already appeared under different forms, but I am not aware that any thing has ever been attempted on the plan of the work now presented to the public. My principal object has been to exhibit the Wisdom and Genius of our author, as these are reflected in his lucid pages, which have been justly characterized "the richest, the purest, the fairest which genius uninspired ever laid open." The first Section contains the Morals of Shakspeare, which are very numerous and of an exalted character. There is more moral knowledge contained in a few lines, or a sentence of our author, than is to be found in a whole chapter of those works which treat expressly of Moral science. There is one thing worthy of special observation in the Morals of Shakspeare, which presents his character in a very interesting light; I refer to the strong tincture which they have of Divine truth, affording evidence of his mind having been deeply imbued with the pure morality of the Gospel. This highly interesting feature of his morals I have pointed out in many instances, by references to particular passages of Scripture. Although the first part of the work is designated Moral Philosophy, the reader must not infer from thence that there are no morals in the other Sections: the truth is, morals pervade the whole work, but many of them are so interwoven with the Characters, Nature and the Passions, &c., as not to admit of being separated. Shakespeare Wisdom and Wit by William Shakespeare Pdf

The genius of Shakespeare is most apparent in the Stratford poet's unique power of expression -- in his rare capacity to represent human truth with such intensity of felling, such depth of understanding, and such felicity of phrase as to make his words an intricate part of English speechways. The captivating magic of Shakespeare's language lies in its superb qualities of spontaneity, of universality, and of perennial freshness that 'age cannot wither, nor custom stale.' ... The present sampling of the Bard's wit and wisdom is necessarily limited. Modern readers will want to take the advice of the compilers of the First Folio, and read the complete texts of the poems and plays, again and again. Shakespeare never grows old, for as Ben Jonson so wisely said, 'He was not of an age, but for all time!'

The Wit and Wisdom of Shakespeare by Darrel Walters Pdf

The Wit and Wisdom of Shakespeare thoroughly demystifies 32 of Shakespeare s sonnets. Each is presented and illuminated by a short Essence Statement, clarified in a Diagram for Greater Understanding, and described in a unique and entertaining narrative description. Embedded within the descriptions are tidbits of interesting information about Shakespeare, his associates, and cultural circumstances of the time along with writing techniques and word play in which Shakespeare indulged, and observations from Shakespeare scholars. Students and older readers alike will come to understand the content of the sonnets, appreciate the insight they offer, and enjoy their consummate beauty as literary works of art. This book will prepare readers to delve into other works of Shakespeare more adroitly, including the other 122 sonnets, and will vividly awaken modern readers to human woes, joys, and struggles that are still with us 400 years later. Finally, it will imprint indelibly on reader s minds the profound and wondrous genius of William Shakespeare."

Shakespeare's History Plays by Neema Parvini Pdf

Shakespeare's History Plays boldly moves criticism of Shakespeare's history plays beyond anti-humanist theoretical approaches. This important intervention in the critical and theoretical discourse of Shakespeare studies summarises, evaluates and ultimately calls time on the mode of criticism that has prevailed in Shakespeare studies over the past thirty years. It heralds a new, more dynamic way of reading Shakespeare as a supremely intelligent and creative political thinker, whose history plays address and illuminate the very questions with which cultural historicists have been so preoccupied since the 1980s. In providing bold and original readings of the first and second tetralogies (Henry VI, Richard III, Richard II and Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2), the book reignites old debates and re-energises recent bids to humanise Shakespeare and to restore agency to the individual in the critical readings of his plays
