The World's Spiritual Conquest Or Its Conversion to Christ (Classic Reprint) by Richmond Brown Godfrey Pdf

Excerpt from The World's Spiritual Conquest or Its Conversion to Christ In presenting this volume to the public, its Author would inform every one that book-writing was the last work in which he ever expected to engage. But the subject of the present treatise was so impressed upon his mind, and so kept there by the Holy Spirit, he found that the only way to relieve himself would be to arrange and write upon the same. In doing so, however, it was not at all his intention ever to publish this book himself. But in lecturing upon the subject, and reading over to Christian brethren and friends its contents, right away both the educated and the uneducated, and the members of the different denominations, began to urge its publication. This circumstance, in connection with the fact that the work in which he is engaged is a general one, and hence must be sustained within itself, is one of the principal reasons for its publication. His only apology, therefore, for the publication of the present volume is a deep interest in and an intense desire for God's glory, and the best good of infinitely imperiled and perishing souls. The Divine Conquest (Religious Classic) by A. W. Tozer Pdf

"This little book of the spiritual way has not been 'made' in any mechanical sense; it has been born out of inward necessity. At the risk of getting myself into doubtful company I might claim for myself the testimony of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, 'For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me'. And his fear that if he did not speak he must, as a new bottle, 'burst asunder' is well understood by me. The sight of the languishing church around me and the operations of a new spiritual power within me have set up a pressure impossible to resist. Whether or not the book ever reaches a wide public, still it has to be written if for no other reason than to relieve an unbearable burden on my heart."

The Battle-Ground of the Spiritual Reformation (Classic Reprint) by S. B. Brittan Pdf

Excerpt from The Battle-Ground of the Spiritual Reformation The religion of the Koran was very speedily established throughout Arabia. It carried its conquests Into Syria, and its progress was only arrested by the death Of the Prophet. Mohammed, also, achieved his success by no very gentle means. He inculcated the idea that his disciples were to employ the sword in vindicating the claims of his religion. A paradise of sensual pleasures, and the fellowship of angelic heroes were promised to all who should be victorious in the cause of God and his Prophet. 'suc'h were the means and instruments whereby the Arabian Chief made the conquest of his country, and produced the greatest revolution in human affairs that has occurred since the beginning of the Christian era. But he violated the principles Of justice, and trampled on the rights of human nature. Liberty Of conscience was granted to the Jew and the Christian only on the condition that they would pay for it, while for idolaters there was no alternative but conversion or the sword. When the Prophet, after being exiled for seven years, returned to 1115 native city, three hundred and fifty idols which defiled its famous Pan theon were cast down and broken in pieces, while their wor shipers only escaped destruction by a timely conversion. Sacred Worlds by Chris Park Pdf

This book, the first in the field for two decades, looks at the relationships between geography and religion. It represents a synthesis of research by geographers of many countries, mainly since the 1960s. No previous book has tackled this emerging field from such a broad, interdisciplinary perspective, and never before have such a variety of detailed case studies been pulled together in so comparative or illuminating a way. Examples and case studies have been drawn from all the major world religions and from all continents from both a historical and contemporary perspective. Major themes covered in the book include the distribution of religion and the processes by which religion and religious ideas spread through space and time. Some of the important links between religion and population are also explored. A great deal of attention is focused on the visible manifestations of religion on the cultural landscape, including landscapes of worship and of death, and the whole field of sacred space and religious pilgrimage.

Evangelicals and Israel by Stephen Spector Pdf

Arguing that the reasons evangelical Christians support Israel is for more complicated reasons than preparing for the Second Coming, this text examines Christian Zionism and the ways that religion and politics converge in American evangelicals' love and support for Israel and the Jewish people.

Conversion of a High Priest Into a Christian Worker (Classic Reprint) by Meletios Golden Pdf

Excerpt from Conversion of a High Priest Into a Christian Worker In placing this second edition in the hands of my readers I most gratefully acknowledge the splendid assistance of my subscribers, and the kindness with which this book has been received by the General Public, who made it possible for me to accomplish my intended purpose, ever since I left home, that I should give, to the general public, an account of my conversion into a practical Christian worker, know ing that there are a great number of intelligent minds, among the priests, in the greek-russian and Roman Catholic churches, who would make good soldiers of Jesus Christ, and some of them might de velop into heroes of Truth and Righteousness, if they could only deny themselves of the luxuries and lofty life attached to their priesthood. And this prob lem of selfishness is an absolute barrier not only to their own Salvation, but to many a soul, who might have been saved from sin, and be converted to God, and usefulness, but for the Priest. The solution of the problem was the clue which aided me to escape from the labyrinth of doubt; and now, standing upon the rock of unshaken faith, I offer the clue that guided me to others. Peru's Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish Conquest by Steve J. Stern Pdf

This second edition of Peru's Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish Conquest includes Stern's 1992 reflections on the ten years of historical interpretation that have passed since the book's original publication--setting his analysis of Huamanga in a larger perspective. "This book is a monument to both scholarship and comprehension, comparable in its treatment of the indigenous peoples after the conquest only to that of Charles Gibson for the Aztecs, and perhaps the best volume read by this reviewer in several years."--Frederick P. Bowser, American Historical Review "Peru's Indian Peoples and the Challenge of Spanish Conquest is clearly indispensable reading for Andeanists and highly recommended to ethnohistorians generally. In technical respects it is a job done right, and conceptually it stands out as a handsome example of anthropology and history woven into one tight fabric of inquiry."--Frank Salomon, Ethnohistory

The Tarragona Vortex by Lawrence J. McCrank Pdf

This extensive bibliographic essay underpins the entire Tarragona Vortex study by focusing on this arena as one of the most contested frontiers in Western history, comparable to Jerusalem in the East, for broad issues of Romanization, Westernization, Islamization, and Christianization. Its book length chapters treat (1) diverse historiographies from local and Spanish to comparative Mediterranean and Crusade History, and especially Ethno-historiography and the explanatory concept of frontiers; (2) the phenomena of religion conversion and reform, and the conditioning agents of Islam and Latin Christianity in practice and adversity; (3) religious universalism and violence, especially religious war; (4) the Crusade and Reconquest paradigms and century-long debate; (5) the environment on land and sea, and setting for this History. Although these themes are explored to include due reconsideration but avoid major digressions in its telling about Tarragona and the Tarraconensis, they underly so much of Late-Antique and Medieval historical research that this discussion pertains to the whole field of historical, cultural, and religious studies.

Ancient Origins of the Mexican Plaza by Logan Wagner,Hal Box,Susan Kline Morehead Pdf

The plaza has been a defining feature of Mexican urban architecture and culture for at least 4,000 years. Ancient Mesoamericans conducted most of their communal life in outdoor public spaces, and today the plaza is still the public living room in every Mexican neighborhood, town, and city—the place where friends meet, news is shared, and personal and communal rituals and celebrations happen. The site of a community’s most important architecture—church, government buildings, and marketplace—the plaza is both sacred and secular space and thus the very heart of the community. This extensively illustrated book traces the evolution of the Mexican plaza from Mesoamerican sacred space to modern public gathering place. The authors led teams of volunteers who measured and documented nearly one hundred traditional Mexican town centers. The resulting plans reveal the layers of Mesoamerican and European history that underlie the contemporary plaza. The authors describe how Mesoamericans designed their ceremonial centers as embodiments of creation myths—the plaza as the primordial sea from which the earth emerged. They discuss how Europeans, even though they sought to eradicate native culture, actually preserved it as they overlaid the Mesoamerican sacred plaza with the Renaissance urban concept of an orthogonal grid with a central open space. The authors also show how the plaza’s historic, architectural, social, and economic qualities can contribute to mainstream urban design and architecture today.

Missionary Conquest by George E. Tinker Pdf

This fascinating probe into U.S. mission history spotlights four cases: Junipero Serra, the Franciscan whose mission to California natives has made him a candidate for sainthood; John Eliot, the renowned Puritan missionary to Massachusetts Indians; Pierre-Jean De Smet, the Jesuit missioner to the Indians of the Midwest; and Henry Benjamin Whipple, who engineered the U.S. government's theft of the Black Hills from the Sioux.
