The Worsted Monster by Edward Gorey Pdf

Never before printed as a stand-alone book, The Worsted Monster is a little-known play with illustrated sets, characters, and props created by Edward Gorey. This very limited edition (26 lettered copies for sale, with three out-of-series), a miniature book, is a three part set. The overall structure includes a carousel format (of the play's acts) and two slipcases; one houses the separately bound play text and the other a portfolio of the illustrations and Gorey's production notes. The book slips into a multi-colored hand-knitted woolen band, laid in a woolen sock, and rests in a bookcloth and bonded leather covered box. The edition and its presentation was designed by Patrice Miller, and printed by Chris Miller, both of Aredian Press.

The Worst We Can Find by Dale Sherman Pdf

Had you tuned in to the small television station KTMA on Thanksgiving Day, 1988, you would have been one of the few witnesses to pop culture history being made. On that day, viewers in and around St. Paul, Minnesota, were treated to a genuine oddity, in which a man and his robots, trapped within a defiantly DIY sci-fi set, cracked jokes while watching a terrible movie. It was a cockeyed twist on the local TV programs of the past, in which a host would introduce old, cheaply licensed films. And though its origins may have been inauspicious, Mystery Science Theater 3000 captured the spirit of what had been a beloved pastime for generations of wags, wiseacres, and smartalecks, and would soon go on to inspire countless more. The Worst We Can Find is a comprehensive history of and guide to MST3K and its various offshoots—including Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic, and The Mads Are Back—whose lean crew of writers, performers, and puppeteers have now been making fun of movies for over thirty years. It investigates how “riffing” of films evolved, recounts the history of these programs, and considers how a practice guaranteed to annoy real-life fellow moviegoers grew into such a beloved, long-lasting franchise. As author Dale Sherman explains, creative heckling has been around forever—but MST3K and its progeny managed to redirect that art into a style that was both affectionate and cutting, winning the devotion of countless fans and aspiring riffers.

The World's Twenty Worst Crimes - True Stories of 10 Killers and Their 3000 Victims by Kate Kray Pdf

In this, the first book of its kind, Kate Kray, who married gangster Ronnie Kray, peers into the minds of the top twenty worst killers in criminal history and, sparing no detail, reveals the awful truth of their abominable acts. The extreme nature of their violence and their shocking lack of remorse makes for uncomfortable, yet fascinating reading. From obsessive sexual predators and extreme sadists, to cannibals and head hunters, each type of psychopath is examined, their crimes against life told with grim, yet necessary, frankness. Kate offers true insight into the deeply worrying motivations of what come to seem closer to monsters than humans, begging the question of whether such individuals can themselves be viewed as victims of a troubled past, or merely as exponents of pure evil. But be warned, these stories are not for the faint-hearted...

Imagining the Worst by Kathleen Lant,Theresa Thompson Pdf

Stephen King has been hailed as a writer of the late 20th century Everyman, yet his representations of women remain debatable. These essays not only explore his portrayal of female characters, they illuminate Stephen King's own psychology and that of our culture's fears, anxieties, and feminine obsessions. The various works examined include Carrie, Gerald's Game, Rose Madder, Holloween, Friday the 13th, Dolores Claiborne, It, Christine, and Misery. The essays progress through various discussions of female power versus male authority, the association of female with evil, and King's monster imagery associated with the mother-figure characters. Written by various scholars and professors, these essays offer rare insight into the treatement of the female characters of Stephen King's imagination. The works of Stephen King are as popular as they are contested. Delineated by his precise commentary on the late 20th century culture, and most notably American culture, his horror fiction strikes a more specific, personal note with readers. These essays tap into the feminine aspect of King's social commentary. Concentrating on his treatment of female characters, these essays explore Stephen King's exposure of the fears, anxieties, and obsessions concerning the female and feminine that our culture harbors. The numerous works analyzed in this book provide a comprehensive study of King's treatment of the feminine, and what it implies about our culture and Stephen King.
