Waking the Lion by Marge Kirkpatrick Pdf
The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin is a written record of the philosophy and correct practice of Nichiren Buddhism. As important as that text is, however, understanding the words of a medieval Japanese priest and incorporating them into 21st century life can be a daunting task. Let's face it you can't apply what you can't understand. Enter Waking the Lion: a Study Guide to The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin written with the lay believer in mind. Each chapter of this book covers one gosho, or letter, of Nichiren's. Each includes a brief introduction, an overview of what Nichiren says in that gosho (including explanations of difficult terms) and most importantly how to apply Nichiren's words to your practice and your life. Like Nichiren's teachings, Waking the Lion is not meant to be simply read, but lived. Be forewarned: reading it may awaken the lion within. So take a healthy stretch, dear reader, and get ready to roar--.

Writings of Nichiren Shōnin by Nichiren,Zenchō Kitagawa Pdf
The Showa Teihon Nichiren Shonin Ibun (Writings of Nichiren Shonin standardised in the Showa period) compiled by the Rissho Daigaku Nichiren Kyogaku Kenkyu Jo (Center for the Study of Nichiren Buddhism) in four volumes and published by Kuonji Temple in 1952-1959 are considered the most authoritative collection of Nichiren Shonin's writings. Because of the difficulty of reading Nichiren Shonin's original writings, the Nichiren Shonin Zenshu (Complete Writings of Nichiren Shonin) were published in 1992 and 1996 to provide access for everyone in an easy-to-read modern Japanese form. In 2000, the Nichiren Overseas Propagation Promotion Association began the English translation of the 7-volume Nichiren Shonin Zenshu. Although this work is titled as the complete writings, it only contains the writings that are considered bibliographically authentic in light of modern scholarship. There are a few writings included in the 7 volumes that are of questionable authenticity; these are specifically indicated in their introductions. Volumes 1-5 are already available available.

Learning from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin by Daisaku Ikeda Pdf
Addressing questions such as What constitutes a meaningful life? and What is true happiness? , this guide to Nichiren Buddhism presents the spiritual practice as a teaching of hope that can answer these and other important questions of modern life. Buddhist teacher Daisaku Ikeda offers insights into four of Nichiren's revolutionary letters--each intended to bring out the inherent potential within each individual--and brings the message of the missives to life for a contemporary readership. Readers will not only learn about the exceptional life and times of Nichiren, they will also discover a philosophy of inner transformation that will help them find deep and lasting happiness for themselves and for others. This is the only book that offers commentaries on the writings of the 13th-century teacher Nichiren, one of the most important Japanese Buddhist teachers in the Mahayana tradition.

The Buddha In Daily Life by Richard Causton Pdf
Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism encourages the belief that, through its faith and practices, spiritual and material blessings and benefits can be available to everyone in this life. Needs can be met, and success achieved, not merely for oneself but for others (and the world) through dedication to the Lotus Sutra, a central teaching of Buddhism. It combines these personal objectives with the commitment to world peace, ecology and the easing of suffering, especially, AIDS. Attracting such well known followers as Jeff Banks, Sandie Shaw, Tina Turner and Roberto Baggio, Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism is rooted in a Buddhist tradition going back to the teachings of Nichiren in the 13th century, and is part of an international movement based in Japan.
