An Autobiography (Classic Reprint) by Theodore Roosevelt Pdf

In this book the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, gives us his own unique insight into his life and career. This great man was far more than just a politician however, he was a renowned hunter, conservationist and soldier and wrote extensively about both these interests and politics. Elected with one of the largest ever shares of the popular vote he remains a respected and popular figure in American history. This is not an objective view of Roosevelt's life by any means. He gives his own view on events and his own opinion permeates the text. Nothing less could be expected from such a charismatic and powerful personality. He covers his life just as far as the end of his presidency, focusing on his political career, although in two appendices he attacks the presidents following him, Taft and Wilson. It is a dense and wordy account of his life and career, but well worth the read for any student of American history or politics. Theodore Roosevelt an Autobiography by Theodore Roosevelt Pdf

Patronage does not really help a party. It helps the bosses to get control of the machinery of the party--as in 1912 was true of the Republican party--but it does not help the party. On the average, the most sweeping party victories in our history have been won when the patronage was against the victors. All that the patronage does is to help the worst element in the party retain control of the party organization.

The Classic Autobiography of Theodore Roosevelt by Theodore Roosevelt Pdf

The Classic Autobiography of the 26th president of the United States of America Theodore Roosevelt - It seems to me that, for the nation as for the individual, what is most important is to insist on the vital need of combining certain sets of qualities, which separately are common enough, and, alas, useless enough. Practical efficiency is common, and lofty idealism not uncommon; it is the combination which is necessary, and the combination is rare. Love of peace is common among weak, short-sighted, timid, and lazy persons; and on the other hand courage is found among many men of evil temper and bad character. Neither quality shall by itself avail. Justice among the nations of mankind, and the uplifting of humanity, can be brought about only by those strong and daring men who with wisdom love peace, but who love righteousness more than peace. Facing the immense complexity of modern social and industrial conditions, there is need to use freely and unhesitatingly the collective power of all of us; and yet no exercise of collective power will ever avail if the average individual does not keep his or her sense of personal duty, initiative, and responsibility. We of the great modern democracies must strive unceasingly to make our several countries lands in which a poor man who works hard can live comfortably and honestly, and in which a rich man cannot live dishonestly nor in slothful avoidance of duty; and yet we must judge rich man and poor man alike by a standard which rests on conduct and not on caste, and we must frown with the same stern severity on the mean and vicious envy which hates and would plunder a man because he is well o and on the brutal and selfish arrogance which looks down on and exploits the man with whom life has gone hard.

Theodore Roosevelt in Perspective by Tom Lansford Pdf

President of the United States of America, is an official title sought by many and won by only a few individuals. The series entitled First Men, America's President, contains a book length biography of each 'President of the United States of America'. Every book contains information on the President's early education, professional career, military or political service prior to the presidency, interpretative discussion of both domestic and foreign policies during each presidency, and the conclusion of their political lives in public service. The two major themes of this series are the character traits marking success in the presidency, and the changes in the office of presidents throughout America's history. Character matters in all walks of life, but perhaps matters most within the character of the President of the United States.
