Astoundingly Joyful, Amazingly Simple by Timothy D. White Pdf

The meta church is a group of culturally varied congregations combined together as one family with one dream that can only be fulfilled by our differences combined together as a fulfillment of the priestly prayer of Jesus Christ. If youre looking for the hard science of what it takes to build a thriving church, look no further than Dr. Whites Astoundingly Joyful, Amazingly Simple. Biblically sound and culturally relevant, Dr. Whites strategy reveals the secrets every church leader longs for. More importantly, he has put them into practice at his amazing church, Washington Cathedral. If youre in church leadership, you dont want to miss out on this transforming message. Dr. Les Parrott, Author of Love Talk Like the TV commercial where theyre building an airplane while flying it, Dr. Tim White reworks todays institutional church while reading the Book of Acts. Readers feel both his passion and his struggle, but we also see the joy and simplicity of the model represented by Washington Cathedral. Their meta approach involves Tiny Little Churches that undergird everything they do, nonprofit foundations that minister to the community, and diverse cultural congregations that share the singular dream of building the greatest care network the world has ever seen. If you want practical ways for your church to move closer to the ideals found in the Book of Acts, this book is for you. Dr. Warren Bird, Research Director for Leadership Network, and co-author of Better Together: Making Healthy Church Mergers Work Whites book is born out of a 25-year education in the school of hard knocks in founding and leading Washington Cathedral into one of the most profoundly incarnational churches in North America. Jim Palmer, author of Divine Nobodies, Wide Open Spaces, & Being Jesus in Nashville

The Psychology Behind Wellness and Illness Why Do People Get Sick? by Dr. Talib Kafaji Pdf

There is an abundance of scientific research indicating that 85% of all diseases have an emotional component, like feelings of anger, apathy, depression, resentment, which weaken the immune system and therefore damage our health. On the other hand, positive thoughts of love, humor, joy, resiliency and compassion support good physical health. Every thought, whether positive or negative, has physical consequences, for better or worse, on our health. The wisdom in this regard states that illness is a conspiracy cooked up in the unconscious mind and manifested in our bodies. It is no longer a question of staying healthy; it is a question of finding a sickness you like to serve an internal unconscious purpose, an “illness manual” if you will. You may choose one that attacks the body part you are most uncomfortable with, or don’t like, just to serve unconscious negative feelings.

The Regulation of Motor Vehicle and Traffic Safety by Glenn C. Blomquist Pdf

Decisions twenty years ago during the fIrst generation of modern traffIc safety policymaking were easier than today. Afterall, the mandate for specifIc mandatory motor vehicle safety standards was dermed rather clearly during legislative hearings. Since the initial standards, decisions have been based on the more general guidelines of "practicality" and avoiding "unreasonable risks. " Now, with more diffIcult decisions pending, the demand for analysis is greater. My purpose in writing this book is to promote second generation policymaking in traffic safety. The dominant theme is that an "individual net benefIt approach" is useful in the design, evaluation and improvement of traffic safety policy. Hopefully, this book provides some guidance for today's tougher decisions. Evaluative review of modern traffic safety policy, especially automobile safety standards, yields several results. The technological approach, the basis for the 1966 legislation, is shown to produce mistakes. Benefits are overestimated and endangerment of nonoccupants is ignored. The risk homeostatic approach, the devil's idea to some in the safety community, is shown to be a limiting case of the more general individual net benefIt approach. Rationality and competency in travelers' safety decisions are reviewed in a broad context. Evidence beyond the realm of behavioral ix x The Regulation of Motor Vehicle and Traffic Safety psychology indicates considerable, albeit imperfect, competency in traffic safety decisions. Conventional benefit-cost analysis is critiqued. Existing studies of passive restraints are shown to overestimate net benefits because travelers' responses and costs are ignored.

Laughter in a Time of Turmoil by Richard P. Olson Pdf

Here's a different angle on humor--it can be a spiritual practice, an expression of a theology of joy, hope, and grace. Humor is so valuable, for it offers self-care, healing, and renewal, precious gifts in times of pressure and tension. Olson begins by telling of three unforgettable friends who lived their lives with joy and zest--a practice that opened doors and aided their own sense of well-being. Playfully, he continues by exploring the known benefits of humor. Next considered is the amazing variety of humor in the Bible, a basic theology of a laughing God, and the caring ethic of humor that emerges from this theology. Finally, there is a discussion of how this practice of humor enriches worship, caregiving, and administration. Laughter in a Time of Turmoil draws to a close considering spiritual disciplines/practices and why humor belongs among these practices. Suggestions are then offered on how to grow in this spiritual practice. Discussion questions are provided for each chapter to help groups enjoy their conversations about the book. This book will help you think and laugh, or laugh and think (take your pick) and then be on your way rejoicing.
