The God of the Garden by Andrew Peterson Pdf

There’s a strong biblical connection between people and trees. They both come from dirt. They’re both told to bear fruit. In fact, arboreal language is so often applied to humans that it’s easy to miss, whether we're talking about family trees, passing along our seed, cutting someone off like a branch, being rooted to a place, or bearing the fruit of the Spirit. It’s hard to deny that trees mean something, theologically speaking. This book is in many ways a memoir, but it’s also an attempt to wake up the reader to the glory of God shining through his creation. One of the first commands to Adam and Eve was to “work and keep” the garden. Award-winning author and songwriter Andrew Peterson, being as honest as possible, shares a story of childhood, grief, redemption, and peace, by walking through a forest of memories: “I trust that by telling my story, you’ll encounter yours. Hopefully, like me, you’ll see that the God of the Garden is and has always been present, working and keeping what he loves.” Sometimes he plants, sometimes he prunes, but in his goodness he intends to reap a harvest of righteousness.

When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman Pdf

This is a book about a brother and a sister. It's a book about secrets and starting over, friendship and family, triumph and tragedy, and everything in between. More than anything, it's a book about love in all its forms. In a remarkably honest and confident voice, Sarah Winman has written the story of a memorable young heroine, Elly, and her loss of innocence-a magical portrait of growing up and the pull and power of family ties. From Essex and Cornwall to the streets of New York, from 1968 to the events of 9/11, When God Was a Rabbit follows the evolving bond of love and secrets between Elly and her brother Joe, and her increasing concern for an unusual best friend, Jenny Penny, who has secrets of her own. With its wit and humor, engaging characters whose eccentricities are adroitly and sometimes darkly drawn, and its themes of memory and identity, When God Was a Rabbit is a love letter to true friendship and fraternal love. Funny, utterly compelling, fully of sparkle, and poignant, too, When God Was a Rabbit heralds the start of a remarkable new literary career.

The Journey Begins by Avril Rowlands Pdf

One morning, Rabbit discovers a birthday parcel addressed to him. Inside is a Bible and on the flyleaf is written 'Read Me'. As he wonders at this odd present a brightly painted gypsy-style caravan hurtles down the road - and narrowly misses him. Rabbit picks up the book and joins the caravan travellers - Hector the horse, Caravan Bear and Whitby (female) the dog. The Animals' Caravan, has echoes of children's classics such as Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland as Rabbit leaves his home to set out on an unexpected journey - a journey to find friendship and make sense of the world around him. He also finds himself on a journey of faith as he and his new friends wrestle with some of the often difficult concepts in the bible, thereby gaining fresh insights and understanding of God's loving involvement and care for the world. The travelling life of the caravan and its occupants provide the opportunity for Rabbit to share these tales with other animals they meet and they join Caravan Bear, Whitby and Hector in listening - and learning from - the stories. He is frequently interrupted by questions from his listeners, the kind of questions any child - or adult - might ask. The real and often humorous events that happen to Rabbit and his friends are mirrored by the stories from the Bible enabling children to realise that the stories have relevance and meaning today.

The Tale of Rebekah Rabbit by Jean McCurdy Meade Pdf

Where did the story of the Easter Bunny come from? What does Easter, the Day on which Jesus was raised from the dead that Christians celebrate every year with great joy, have to do with a rabbit that brings joy to children? Did it ever occur to you that there might have been a family of rabbits in the Garden outside Jerusalem where Jesus was laid in the tomb on that sad, amazing day we call Good Friday? Well, if there were rabbits in that garden, maybe one of them saw the Risen Lord even before the faithful women went to the tomb and encountered the Angel telling the news of His Resurrection. Maybe she was a little bunny named Rebekah, who was curious about the strange rumbling she felt early, early that Sunday morning, and the beautiful light that came with the dawn, so out she hopped into the garden, all alone, while her brothers and sisters slept. And there she met the most wonderful person in the world - and somehow she knew Him and He knew her And then maybe that little bunny was able to say something without words to those women - and they included her in their story to the others. But then, over the centuries, the part about the rabbit and the first Easter day got forgotten -mostly. Fantasy can be a wonderful way to connect with the truths taught by the Christian faith. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, "The Tale of Rebekah Rabbit" is for children and adults with a heart for what may have happened if, as old legends tell us, animals can talk among themselves and, like humans, can recognize the voice of their Maker Jean Alden McCurdy Meade, an Episcopal priest since 2002, is the Rector of Mount Olivet Episcopal Church, New Orleans. She is the mother of four, step-mother of one, and grandmother of four - so far. A pianist, organist, singer, and lover of reading and good conversation, her special calling is teaching the Bible to young and old. For 19 years she served as the lay chaplain of St. Andrew's Episcopal School where she used impromptu drama and music to bring the Bible stories to life. She has broadcast a Bible study, "Light unto my Path," on New Orleans public access television for years and has been the speaker for many conferences and retreats, especially on "Women of the Bible" and "Male and Female in the Image of God." A graduate of Agnes Scott College and Duke University, she taught English in high schools and college before "retiring" for a while to bring up her children. In 1988 she was the first non-Roman Catholic graduate of Notre Dame Roman Catholic Seminary of New Orleans and then earned a PhD in Philosophy from Tulane University in 2000. She has taught Religious Studies and Philosophy at Loyola, Notre Dame Seminary, and Tulane in recent years. She is dedicated to fostering ecumenical work and understanding, serving as a Chaplain in the Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem and in the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple in Jerusalem, and she has been an oblate of St. Joseph Abbey, Order of Saint Benedict, in Covington, Louisiana, for many years. Ever since the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase in 2003, Jean has led an ecumenical service of Vespers in French at Mount Olivet Church to celebrate the French heritage of Louisiana. A native of San Antonio, Texas, she has four sisters and one brother, many nieces and nephews, and is married to Louis R Koerner, Jr, a lawyer. Jean and Louis live in New Orleans in a big old Garden District house built in 1893. They grow their own vegetables and herbs in the garden and love to cook and to travel, especially to France. Illustrator Barbara Hosterman Clark is a mother and grandmother who lives in Grapeland, Texas. A locally well-known artist, she is also an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Crockett, Texas.

Genesis, Faith and Science: Let There Be Light by Russell Breighner Pdf

Creationism's literal interpretation of Genesis is not valid; Intelligent Design is superseded. An analysis of the Creation texts in Genesis using current scientific knowledge shows a Creator intimately involved with perfecting His work. Gone, too, is any possibility for spontaneous evolution, yet Adam may have been selected from a pool of near-human creatures. How he was different from these, and what has been their fate is part of this analysis. In Genesis, Faith and Science: Let There Be Light, Russ Breighner specifically relays the plea of the current pope, Pope Benedict XVI, who makes a case for the squaring of science and religion. The pope accepts the Big Bang theory and the science of an evolving cosmos, holding that "no laws were miraculously broken." Science and faith are complimentary paths to discovering truth. Any animosity between them is out of place.
