Production Methods and Workability of Concrete by P.J.M. Bartos,D.J. Cleland,D.L. Marrs Pdf

Practical production of ordinary and special, high performance concretes and their behaviour and properties when fresh are the main themes of this book. It derives from the International RILEM Conference held in Paisley, Scotland in June 1996, and represents the culmination of the work of two RILEM Technical Committees (145 WSM Workability of Special Mixes, and 150 ECM Efficiency of Concrete Mixers). Very significant advances have been made recently in the development of concrete with outstanding properties. Such advances in research must be matched by progress in the technology of concrete production. This book focuses on production methods and on workability and handling, two fundamental and closely linked stages of the concrete construction process. It has a strongly practical emphasis, with many contributions showing how to build effectively using the many high performance concretes which have progressed from research into construction in recent years. The main themes covered are: production mixers and mixing processes; production methods; sprayed and very dry precasting mixes; fibre reinforced concrete; flowing and superfluid mixes; rheology; test methods; mix design and models; special cements and concretes.

Mechanics of Fiber and Textile Reinforced Cement Composites by Barzin Mobasher Pdf

Among all building materials, concrete is the most commonly used-and there is a staggering demand for it. However, as we strive to build taller structures with improved seismic resistance or durable pavement with an indefinite service life, we require materials with better performance than the conventional materials used today. Considering the enor

Textile Fibre Composites in Civil Engineering by Thanasis Triantafillou Pdf

Textile Fibre Composites in Civil Engineering provides a state-of-the-art review from leading experts on recent developments, the use of textile fiber composites in civil engineering, and a focus on both new and existing structures. Textile-based composites are new materials for civil engineers. Recent developments have demonstrated their potential in the prefabrication of concrete structures and as a tool for both strengthening and seismic retrofitting of existing concrete and masonry structures, including those of a historical value. The book reviews materials, production technologies, fundamental properties, testing, design aspects, applications, and directions for future research and developments. Following the opening introductory chapter, Part One covers materials, production technologies, and the manufacturing of textile fiber composites for structural and civil engineering. Part Two moves on to review testing, mechanical behavior, and durability aspects of textile fiber composites used in structural and civil engineering. Chapters here cover topics such as the durability of structural elements and bond aspects in textile fiber composites. Part Three analyzes the structural behavior and design of textile reinforced concrete. This section includes a number of case studies providing thorough coverage of the topic. The final section of the volume details the strengthening and seismic retrofitting of existing structures. Chapters investigate concrete and masonry structures, in addition to providing information and insights on future directions in the field. The book is a key volume for researchers, academics, practitioners, and students working in civil and structural engineering and those working with advanced construction materials. Details the range of materials and production technologies used in textile fiber composites Analyzes the durability of textile fiber composites, including case studies into the structural behavior of textile reinforced concrete Reviews the processes involved in strengthening existing concrete structures

Unique Polymeric Fiber and Fiber Delivery Systems for the Economic Preparation of High-fiber Content Concrete with Superior Physical Properties by Billy D. Neeley,Donna C. Day,James E. Shoenberger Pdf

This report documents the results from an investigation of a new polymer fiber and unique delivery system for charging fibers into concrete mixtures. The straight Polyolefin fibers are available in two sizes: (1) 0.63 mm in diameter and 50 mm long, and (2) 0.38 mm in diameter and 25 mm long. Each of the two sizes of fibers is packaged in bundles approximately 50 mm in diameter. Each. bundle is encased with paper tape bound with a water-soluble glue. The fibers are charged into the concrete mixture in mass. Approximately 3 to 10 min of mixing time is necessary to uniformly distribute the fibers throughout the concrete mixture, depending upon the fiber content, consistency of the concrete mixture, and the type of mixer being used. Fresh and hardened properties were evaluated in mixtures containing up to 15 kg/cu m. The results indicate that concrete mixtures with the Polyolefin fibers can be produced having adequate workability and finishability if proportioned properly. Addition of the Polyolefin fibers does not significantly influence the compressive nor first-crack flexural strength, freezing-and-thawing resistance, drying shrinkage, nor the chloride permeability of concrete mixtures. However, the presence of the Polyolefin fibers does influence the post-crack behavior of concrete mixtures. Impact resistance and flexural toughness are improved as the fiber loading increases. A 6,100-m whitetopping demonstration project was constructed on a heavily traveled interstate in Mississippi. The whitetopping was 100 mm thick. Details of the specifications, construction, and early-time performance are given.
