Thou Shalt Forget: Indigenous Sovereignty, Resistance and the Production of Cultural Oblivion in Canada by Pierrot Ross-Tremblay Pdf
What is ‘cultural oblivion’ and ‘psychological colonialism’, and how are they affecting the capacity of Indigenous Peoples in Canada to actively resist systematic and territorial oppression by the state? Following a decade-long research project, this new book by Pierrot Ross-Tremblay examines the production of oblivion among his own community, the Essipiunnuat [or, ‘People of the Brook Shells River’] and the relationship between a colonial imperative to forget. The book illustrates how the ‘cultural oblivion’ of vulnerable minority communities is a critical human rights issue but also asks us to reflect upon both the role of the state and the local elite in creating and warping our perception and understanding of history.

Thou Shalt Not Forget by Israel Lapciuc Pdf
Israel Lapciuc was seven years old in 1941 when his family was forced out of their home in Czernowitz, Romania and on to a train going eastward. He was separated from them some weeks later as he leapt off the train with some other young boys in an attempt to survive. Five years later he was miraculously reunited with his parents. What happened in the intervening years is the story Israel tells in Thou Shalt Not Forget. It is painful reading as Israel recalls all of the harrowing experiences of trying to pass as an ethnic Russian, of trying to avoid the dreaded and hated Nazi Stormtroopers (whom he and his friends call "The Beasts"), of surviving in a so called orphanage and of just remaining alive from moment to moment. Miraculously, both he and his parents survived and were reunited at the war's end. At the time of the publication of this book (2003), Israel Lapciuc is 69 years old. He is a valued and generous member of Miami's Jewish community, a successful businessman and a very loving husband, father and grandfather. During the life of his parents, he was a wonderful son. It is inspiring to realize that a person who went through such hell during his young and formative years could mature into a loving, giving adult who still believes in the goodness of life.

Second Witness: Analytical and Contextual Commentary on the Book of Mormon by Brant A. Gardner Pdf
Stop looking for the Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica and start looking for Mesoamerica in the Book of Mormon! Second Witness, a new six-volume series from Greg Kofford Books, takes a detailed, verse-by-verse look at the Book of Mormon. It marshals the best of modern scholarship and new insights into a consistent picture of the Book of Mormon as a historical document. Taking a faithful but scholarly approach to the text and reading it through the insights of linguistics, anthropology, and ethnohistory, the commentary approaches the text from a variety of perspectives: how it was created, how it relates to history and culture, and what religious insights it provides. The commentary accepts the best modern scholarship, which focuses on a particular region of Mesoamerica as the most plausible location for the Book of Mormon’s setting. For the first time, that location—its peoples, cultures, and historical trends—are used as the backdrop for reading the text. The historical background is not presented as proof, but rather as an explanatory context. The commentary does not forget Mormon’s purpose in writing. It discusses the doctrinal and theological aspects of the text and highlights the way in which Mormon created it to meet his goal of “convincing . . . the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God.”
