Three Testaments by Brian A. Brown Pdf

From disagreement over an Islamic Center in New York to clashes between Christians and Muslims in Egypt, tension between the three Abrahamic faiths often runs high. Yet for all their differences, these three traditions-Judaism, Islam, and Christianity-share much in common. Three Testaments brings together for the first time the text of the Torah, the New Testament, and the Quran, so that readers can explore for themselves the connections, as well as the points of departure, between the three faiths. Notable religion scholars provide accessible introductions to each tradition, and commentary from editor Brian Arthur Brown explores how the three faiths may draw similarities from the ancient Zoroastrian tradition. This powerful book provides a much-needed interfaith perspective on key sacred texts.

The Three Abrahamic Testaments by Ejaz Naqvi Pdf

"Do the Qur'an and the Bible send different and conflicting messages to their followers? Or are there broad areas of theological agreement between the sacred books of the Abrahamic faiths? For example, is the "God of the Qur'an" different from the "God of the Bible"? What is the Qur'anic view of the prophets, especially Moses and Jesus? What does the Qur'an teach about interfaith relations? Do the Qur'an and the Bible promote peace and harmony, or do they promote violence? How does the Qur'an compare to the Bible on important themes like worshiping God, human rights, moral values, and fighting for justice and human dignity? Do the Qur'an and the Bible render women as second-class citizens? Dispelling major myths, The Qur'an: With or Against the Bible? systematically analyzes and compares the similarities along with important differences between The Qur'an and The Bible. An indispensable resource for those seeking to better understand our pluralistic religious world"--

Three Views on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament by Zondervan, Pdf

Three approaches to questions about the theological connection between the Old and New Testaments. The relationship between the Testaments is not as simple and straightforward as it sometimes appears. When New Testament authors appeal to Old Testament texts to support their arguments, what is the relationship between their meanings and what was originally intended by their Old Testament forebears? Leading biblical scholars Walter Kaiser, Darrel Bock, and Peter Enns present their answers to questions about the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, addressing elements such as: Divine and human authorial intent. Context of passages. Historical and cultural considerations. The theological grounds for different interpretive methods. Each author applies his framework to specific texts so that readers can see how their methods work out in practice. Each contributor also receives a thorough critique from the other two authors. Three Views on the New Testament Use of Old Testament gives readers the tools they need to develop their own views on the meaning, contexts, and goals behind the New Testament citations of the Old. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

The Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an by Anton Wessels Pdf

Discussing the Bible and the Qur'an in one breath will surprise some Jews, Christians, and Muslims. But Anton Wessels argues that all three traditions must read the Scriptures together and not againsteach other. As his book title suggests, the three books, in the end, are actually one tale. Wessels accepts Muhammad as a prophet and takes the Qur'an seriously as Holy Scripture along with the Old and New Testaments -- without giving up his own Christian convictions. Respectfully reading the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an together, he argues, is of crucial importance: our world often sees these religious books as the cause of conflicts rather than the solution to them.

Testaments of Toluca by Caterina Pizzigoni Pdf

Testaments written in their own language, Nahuatl, have been crucial for reconstructing the everyday life of the indigenous people of central Mexico after Spanish contact. Those published to date have largely been from the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Testaments of Toluca presents a large body of Nahuatl wills (98) from 1652 to 1783 from an important valley not much studied, thus greatly enlarging our perspective on the evolution of indigenous society and culture in central Mexico. Each testament is transcribed, translated, and accompanied by a commentary on the testator's situation and on interesting terminology. A substantial introductory study fully analyzes the testamentary genre as seen in this corpus (a first) and summarizes the content of the documents in realms such as gender, kinship, household, and land. Wills are very human documents, and the apparatus draws out this aspect, telling us much of local indigenous life in central Mexico in the third century after Spanish contact, so that the book is of potential interest to a broad spectrum of readers.

Freely Gathered Communities of Faith and the Changes between the Testaments by M. A. Erickson Pdf

How can we make sense of the seismic shift between the Old and New Testament? From the early centuries of Christianity until today, many have wrestled with the complex changes between the Testaments, and how to make sense of them. The discussion and debate is spilling over into new areas today, and shows no sign of slowing down. In this fresh approach, the land, the sword, and the temple are traced from Old to New Testament, in order to find the central reasons for the tremendous changes that took place, and are still impacting the world today. Freely gathered communities of faith in Christ, as seen in their original setting, provide a key focal point for unlocking the radical changes that took place.
