Basic Bible Interpretation by Roy B. Zuck Pdf

BASIC BIBLE INTERPRETATION Can the Bible really be understood? Are Old Testament prophecies relevant for today? How can I understand the symbolism of the Book of Revelation? What is the relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament? Why study Bible interpretation? Dr. Roy Zuck points out that it is essential for understanding and teaching the Bible properly, essential as a step beyond observation, and essential for applying the Bible correctly. He discusses the challenges of Bible interpretation, considers the problems of Bible interpretation, explores the history of Bible interpretation, and defines key terms--all in a practical, down-to-earth way. Though Dr. Zuck's many years of teaching and scholarship are evident in this book, he has written in language understandable to all who are serious about bible study and who want to know better what Scripture means.

Hand-Book of Bible Manners and Customs (Classic Reprint) by James M. Freeman Pdf

The Hand-Book of Bible Manners and Customs by James M. Freeman is intended to be a companion piece for readers of The Bible, essentially a "dictionary of things" mentioned in the holy book. Freeman comments that The Bible was written at a specific time and place, and thus makes reference to specific items and customs that are largely unfamiliar to the modern reader, particularly one who lives in the western world. In his introduction, the author comments, "The Bible becomes more than ever a real book when we can read it understandingly." James Freeman's goal in this handbook is thus to detail all unfamiliar references so the modern reader can begin to grasp the teachings of The Bible without wrestling with misunderstandings. Freeman's approach is almost overwhelmingly thorough. The author goes through The Bible, book by book, verse by verse, and highlights any unfamiliar term. These terms, be they customs, objects, or cultural references, are then explained in detail. A typical entry reads like the following: Ezekiel, XVI, 4 - Babes Salted "In ancient times new-born babes were rubbed with salt in order to harden their skin, as this operation was supposed to make it dry, tight, and firm. Galen mentions the practice, and it is also referred to by Jerome in his commentary on this passage. The salt may also have been applied as an emblem of purity and incorruption." This is only one of the nearly 900 entries that appear in this manual. Detailed indexes conclude this manual, so Bible readers perplexed by a term or reference can easily look up an explanation in this document. This Hand-Book of Bible Manners and Customs is one of the most extensive companion pieces to The Bible you will ever find. If one is interested in reading The Bible and gaining a deeper understanding, there is perhaps no better text to have open alongside the holy book than this one. Biblical, Traditional, and Theological Framework for Understanding Christian Prophetism in Ghana Today by Daniel Nii Aboagye Aryeh Pdf

The basis for this project is to verify and determine the extent to which contemporary prophetic ministry in Ghana appropriates prophetism in the early church, Corpus Paulinum, and traditional prophetism in Ghana. The spirit of prophecy which was believed to have ceased in Judaism and during the intertestamental period has now been restored at the inauguration of Christianity. Notwithstanding, Paul gave stipulations for prophets and prophecy in the church in 1 Corinthians 14. This confirms that prophecy was a common phenomenon in the early church and Pauline communities. Contemporary prophetic ministry in Ghana claimed to have conformed to Pauline stipulations concerning prophets and prophecy in the church, but what is their level of conformity? Contemporary prophetic ministry is becoming popular due to its appeal and compatibility with religious worldviews and its pragmatic outlook that resonates with the Ghanaian phenomenon of religion. As an adherent of the Akan traditional religion would go to a religious intermediary for ebisa (literally to "inquire" or "ask") into present or future happenings, contemporary prophets have positioned themselves to be agents of ebisa in Ghanaian Christianity. This book explores biblical and traditional understandings of prophetism that have influenced contemporary Christian understanding of prophets and prophecy in the church.
