Sad Secrets by Hilliard James Hilliard Pdf

Ben Emlik was a handsome young man with many options before him options which took him from college to the exciting world of New York modeling and escort services for wealthy women. His stunning looks and finely-sculpted body opened every door for him, but he could not escape the madness and the secrets hidden beneath the cover-boy veneer. Emlik House, his family home, was an immense mansion that virtually held its inhabitants prisoner and kept their shocking secrets within its walls. His mother was a Latin beauty who could neither reconcile nor control the insanity of her family. Myer Emlik, Ben's father, was a master of deception and manipulation; his Aunt Sovia, a psychic visionary who intervened with her spiritual communications; his sister, the flippant young woman, Camilla, scoffed at the bitter reality of their lives. To escape all of it, Ben's brother, Jon, became a priest with the hope of somehow obtaining salvation for all of their souls. Only the mysterious Aunt Tanya knew the extent of this family's voyage into sin and destruction even she could not steer their course away from disaster.

A Dish of Orts Annotated Edition by George MacDonald Pdf

About A Dish of Orts Read the thoughts of the man who influenced three generations of philosophers and writers. Lovers of fantasy, literary apologetics, and Christian thought will appreciate A Dish of Orts, MacDonald’s work on using the imagination to lift and enliven the mind. George MacDonald, considered the pioneer of the fantasy genre, had an impact on the mind and imaginations of some of the most influential Christian writers of the 20th century. C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, and J.R.R. Tolkien all were greatly impacted by both MacDonald’s imaginative fiction as well as his sermons and social commentary. At the hub of the English Victorian literary circles, MacDonald was friends with many of the literary luminaries of his day such as Poet Laureate Alfred Tennyson, William Thackeray, John Ruskin, as well as many others.. Lovers of Alice in Wonderland have George MacDonald to thank for its publication after Lewis Carroll (the pen name for C.L. Dodgson) was encouraged to publish the story after its enthusiastic reception by MacDonald's children. MacDonald was so widely regarded, that upon his passing, G.K. Chesteron said of him, "George MacDonald was one of the three or four greatest men of the nineteenth century." This great man is gone, but his works remain. A Dish of Orts is a collection of essays by George MacDonald on topics ranging from imagination to Shakespeare, from poetry to living the true Christian life. This new annotated edition bridges the gap for 21st century readers to MacDonald’s 19th century world.

In the Zone by Peter Wolfe Pdf

The Twilight Zone explores the possibilities inhering in the ordinary. A Twilight Zone episode can move us by being poignant and intimate, rambunctious or thought provoking. It can also be orchestrated as a set of intertwined plot developments or as a serial progression. But regardless of whether it takes place on an asteroid, in a city pool room, or in the backwoods, it will usually convey both a folklorist's eye for detail and the born raconteur's sense of pace. Rod Serling, the show's founder, main scriptwriter, and artistic director, knew how much burden he could place on his rhetorical and dramatic gifts. Deservedly celebrated as a pioneer in TV science fiction, he also writes about history and loyalty, the grip of everyday reality, and the dangers of both forgetting about one's ghosts and giving them the upper hand.

Turkish Harems & Circassian Homes by Annie Jane Harvey Pdf

ÊConstantinople has been so often written about that it is useless to describe its lovely aspect in detail. Every one knows that there are minarets and towers rising up, in fairy-like grace, from amid gardens and cypress groves; but Òhe who would see it arightÓ should have his first view in all the bright unreality of a sunny summer morning. Soon after dawn, in the tender duskiness of the early hours, when the light steals down shyly from the veiled east, and before the business and noise of a great city begin, Constantinople is like the sleeping beauty in the wood. A great hush is over everything, broken only when the sun comes up in a blaze of light, flooding sea, earth, and city with a ÒgloryÓ of life and colour. Then from each minaret is heard the voice of the muezzins, as they summon the faithful to prayers. The fairy-like ca•ques skim in every direction across the waters; and the beautifully-named but dirty and somewhat ugly Golden Horn is all astir with moving vessels. Nearly opposite the yacht was a very handsome building of white Greek marble, with an immense frontage to the sea. This is the SultanÕs palace of DolmŽ-BatchŽ. The wing on the right, where the windows are closely barred and jealously latticed, contains the apartments of the ladies of the Imperial harem. Behind the palace, stretching up the hill and crowning its summit, are seen the white, handsome houses that form the fashionable suburb of Pera. Here ambassadors and bankers have large, comfortable hotels; here, too, are the European shops, and the promenade for the Christian world. But the part to seeÑthe part that interestsÑis, of course, the old Turkish quarter, Stamboul; for in Stamboul are Turks in turbans, and in Stamboul are real Turkish houses.
