Toward Interactive and Intelligent Decision Support Systems by Yoshikazu Sawaragi,Koichi Inoue,Hirotaka Nakayama Pdf

These proceedings include papers presented at the VII-th Internatio nal Conference on Multiple Criteria Decision Making which was held in Kyoto/Japan on August 18-22, 1986. Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) has been a greatly import ant subject in many practical fields, for example, in planning, design, control and management in both private and public sectors. After remark able developments of theory, methodology and pilot case studies in rec ent years, it is now facing the stage of real applications and develop ment of more sophisticated methodology as interactive intelligent decision support systems. The conference aimed to provide a significant contribu tion to the future of MCDM as one of total systems including human factors: Substantial emphasis was given to knowledge engineering and cognitive sci ence. The conference inherits the tradition and the style of the previous conferences: (1) Jouy-en-Josas/France (1975), (2) Buffalo/U.S.A. (1977), (3) Konigswinter/FRG (1978), (4) Delaware/U.S.A. (1980), (5) Mons/Belgium (1982), (6) Cleveland/U.S.A. (1984). This time a great many Japanese com panies provided grants for the conference. As a result, the total number of participants was over 120, and a computer demonstration could be reali zed on an extensive scale as well as the conference sessions. Throughout the conference, it was observed that MCDM is making steady progress not only in theory but also as a tool for decision support.

Toward Interactive and Intelligent Decision Support Systems by Yoshikazu Sawaragi,Koichi Inoue,Hirotaka Nakayama Pdf

In the past, technological as well as economic forces dominated the evolution of industrial structures: these factors have been treated extensively in numerous studies. However, another major factor which has begun to have a decisive influ ence on the performance of the chemical industry is technological risk and public and environmental health considerations, in particular those related to toxic and hazardous substances used in industrial production processes. The issues of con trolling process risk, waste streams, and potential environmental consequences of accidental or routine release of hazardous chemicals are rapidly gaining in impor tance vis CI vis narrow economic considerations, and are increasingly reflected in national and international legislation. In the context of several ongoing R&D projects aiming at the development of a new generation of tools for "intelligent" decision support, two related problem areas that have been identified are: (i) Structuring the industry or plant for the minimum cost of production as well as least risk - e.g., toxicity of chemicals involved. In this multi-criteria framework, we seek to resolve the conflict between industrial structure or plant design established by economic considerations and the one shaped by environmental concerns. This can be formulated as a design problem for nor mal production conditions. In section 3.1. and 3.2. an approach on how to deal with this problem at the industry and plant level is discussed.

DSS 2.0 - Supporting Decision Making With New Technologies by G.E. Phillips-Wren,S. Carlsson,A. Respício Pdf

Advances in technology have resulted in new and advanced methods to support decision-making. For example, artificial intelligence has enabled people to make better decisions hrough the use of Intelligent Decision Support Systems (DSS). Emerging research in DSS demonstrates that decision makers can operate in a more timely manner using real-time data, more accurately due to data mining and 'big data' methods, more strategically by considering a greater number of factors, more precisely and inclusively due to the availability of social networking data, and with a wider media reach with video and audio technology._x000D_ _x000D_This book presents the proceedings of the IFIP TC8/Working Group 8.3 conference held at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France, in June 2014. Throughout its history the conference has aimed to present the latest innovations and achievements in Decision Support Systems. This year the conference looks to the next generation with the theme of new technologies to enable DSS2.0. The topics covered include theoretical, empirical and design science research; case-based approaches in decision support systems; decision models in the real-world; healthcare information technology; decision making theory; knowledge management; knowledge and resource discovery; business intelligence; group decision support systems; collaborative decision making; analytics and ‘big data’; rich language for decision support; multimedia tools for DSS; Web 2.0 systems in decision support; context-based technologies for decision making; intelligent systems and technologies in decision support; organizational decision support; research methods in DSS 2.0; mobile DSS; competing on analytics; and social media analytics._x000D_ _x000D_ The book will be of interest to all those who develop or use Decision Support Systems. This book presents innovative and high-quality research regarding advanced decision support systems (DSSs). It describes the foundations, methods, methodologies, models, tools, and techniques for designing, developing, implementing and evaluating advanced DSSs in different fields, including finance, health, emergency management, industry and pollution control. Decision support systems employ artificial intelligence methods to heuristically address problems that are cannot be solved using formal techniques. In this context, technologies such as the Semantic Web, linked data, big data, and machine learning are being applied to provide integrated support for individuals and organizations to make more rational decisions. The book is organized into two parts. The first part covers decision support systems for industry, while the second part presents case studies related to clinical emergency management and pollution control.

Improving Decision Making in Organisations by Alan G. Lockett,Gerd Islei Pdf

McrM has been an active research area for over 20 years and the previous conferences clearly showed a tremendous growth of interest. A variety of successful applications and recent developments of interactive computer software to support decision making confinn a sustained progress. We therefore decided to make our theme "Inlproving Decision Making in Organisations". '!he aim was to take stock of the impact of multicriteria concepts in organisations and to involve management practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds. To this end the conference was organised round five broad themes and papers were solicited on the following topics:- Psychology - how do individuals in practice use and relate to the methodologies. Organisation - how do our models fit into the decision making framework of real organisations. Application - how have the models been used in practice and what is the users view. Methodology - what are the new areas in model development. Related Areas - is there complementary work eg. Expert Systems which may be attempting to solve very similar problems. '!he call for papers produced an overwhelming response of over 100 papers. '!hey were from a variety of disciplines and applications, and we decided to devote approximately one day to each of the five areas. We are very impressed by the results which can be seen in this edited proceedings.

Aspiration Based Decision Support Systems by Andrzej Lewandowski,Andrzej P. Wierzbicki Pdf

It is not easy to summarize -even in a volume -the results of a scientific study con ducted by circa 30 researchers, in four different research institutions, though cooperating between them and jointly with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, but working part-time, sponsored not only by IIASA's national currency funds, but also by several other research grants in Poland. The aims of this cooperative study were de fined broadly by its title Theory, Software and Testing Examples for Decision Support Systems. The focusing theme was the methodology of decision analysis and support related to the principle of reference point optimization (developed by the editors of this volume and called also variously: aspiration-led decision support, quasi-satisfying framework of rationality, DIDAS methodology etc. ). This focusing theme motivated extensive theoretical research - from basic methodological issues of decision analysis, through various results in mathematical programming (in the fields of large scale and stochastic optimization, nondifferentiable optimization, cooperative game theory) mo tivated and needed because of this theme, through methodological issues related to software development to issues resulting from testing and applications. We could not include in this volume all papers -theoretical, methodological, appiied, software manu als and documentation -written during this cooperative study.
