Toward Soviet America by William Z. Foster Pdf

Toward Soviet America is a book written by Communist Party, USA Chairman William Z. Foster, in 1932. The book documented the rise of socialism in the Soviet Union, the crisis facing capitalism, the need for revolution, and a vision of what a socialist society would be like. The book also attacks social-democrats and liberals calling them "Social Fascists" because they seek to give the masses concessions in order to calm them and prevent communist revolution.

Toward Soviet America by William Z Foster Pdf

Writing during the Great Depression, William Z. Foster describes burning injustices in the economic orthodoxy, and predicts the gradual emergence of socialism in the United States. By the time the Depression struck in 1929, Foster was already a veteran campaigner and organizer of labor, having a prominent role in the great steel strike of 1919. At the time he published this book in 1932, Foster was leader of the United States Communist Party, and had developed a comprehensive policy platform based upon the Soviet Union. The USA's fraught economic situation at the time led many disillusioned and impoverished citizens to consider socialism and communism as an alternative. Foster begins by describing various aspects of decay in capitalist society, identifying its proclivity to indulge in war, its worsening cyclical economic crises, the impoverishment and neglect of vast numbers in the labor force, and so on.

Welcome to Soviet America by Michael T. Petro, Jr. Pdf

In 1848 Karl Marx published his infamous pamphlet, The Communist Manifesto, wherein he described the tactics to be employed and goals to be achieved in establishing communism in a given nation. In 1932 William Z. Foster, the National Chairman of the Communist Party, USA, published his book, Toward Soviet America. In his book Foster revealed the Communist plan to build a Soviet America, or an American version of the Soviet Union. Foster provided the reader with a general plan with many specific details. In 1958 former FBI Agent W. Cleon Skousen published his book, The Naked Communist. In his 1962 edition Skousen listed 45 goals Communists planned to achieve in building a Communist America. This book, Welcome to Soviet America, explores the alarming extent to which many of the goals outlined by Karl Marx, William Z. Foster, W. Cleon Skousen - and others - have been achieved in America. Michael Petro is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked in Naval Security and also served in the gunnery division aboard the U.S.S. Kennebec during the Vietnam War. He earned a BA degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Cleveland State University, and an MS degree in psychology and an MA degree in education from California State University at Los Angeles. Michael worked as a counselor in psychiatric hospitals and as a researcher, training coordinator, and manager at an alcohol recovery program on skid row in Los Angeles. Before leaving California, he received a National Leadership Award from the National Headquarters of the Volunteers of America. The award was presented for his success in restoring operational integrity to a dysfunctional alcohol recovery program located on skid row, and for his efforts to create drug-free zones within the skid row community. Michael now works as a writer and self-publisher in Cleveland, Ohio.

American Communism and Soviet Russia by Theodore Draper Pdf

This companion volume to The Roots of American Communism brings to completion what the author describes as the essence of the relationship of American Communism to Soviet Russia in the fi rst decade after the Bolsheviks seized power. The outpouring of new archive materials makes it plain that Draper's premise is direct and to the point: The communist movement "was transformed from a new expression of American radicalism to the American appendage of a Russian revolutionary power." Each generation must fi nd this out for itself, and no better guide exists than the work of master historian Theodore Draper. American Communism and Soviet Russia is acknowledged to be the classic, authoritative history of the critical formative period of the American Communist Party. Based on confi dential minutes of the top party committees, interviews with party leaders, and public records, this book carefully documents the infl uence of the Soviet Union on the fundamental nature of American Communism. Draper's refl ections on that period in this edition are a fi tting capstone to this pioneering effort. Daniel Bell, in Saturday Review, remarked about this work that "there are surprisingly few scholarly histories of individual Communist parties and even fewer which treat of this crucial decade in intimate detail. Draper's account is therefore of great importance." Arthur M. Schlesinger, in The New York Times Book Review, says that "in reading Draper's closely packed pages, one hardly knows whether to marvel more at the detachment with which he examines the Communist movement, the patience with which he unravels the dreary and intricate struggles for power among the top leaders, or the intelligence with which he analyzes the interplay of factors determining the development of American Communism." And Michael Harrington, in Commonweal, asserted that Draper's book "will long be a defi nitive source volume and analysis of the Stalinization of American Communism."

Ballet in the Cold War by Anne Searcy Pdf

"During the Cold War, the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union developed cultural exchange programs, in which they sent performing artists abroad in order to generate goodwill for their countries. Ballet companies were frequently called on to serve in these programs, particularly in the direct Soviet-American exchange. This book analyzes four of the early ballet exchange tours, demonstrating how this series of encounters changed both geopolitical relations and the history of dance. The ballet tours were enormously popular. Performances functioned as an important symbolic meeting point for Soviet and American officials, creating goodwill and normalizing relations between the two countries in an era when nuclear conflict was a real threat. At the same time, Soviet and American audiences did not understand ballet in the same way. As American companies toured in the Soviet Union and vice-versa, audiences saw the performances through the lens of their own local aesthetics. Ballet in the Cold War introduces the concept of transliteration to understand this process, showing how much power viewers wielded in the exchange and explaining how the dynamics of the Cold War continue to shape ballet today"--
