Towards African Missiology by Francis Anekwe Oborji Pdf

This volume reflects on a credible and a new language of Christian mission in Africa. The author's thoughts and approaches not only provide a missiological insight which contribute to the repertoire of expanding fresh ideas in the missiological studies but also serves the purpose of highlighting the active participation of Africans in the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ. In other words, the scope of missiology needs a contextualized interpretation. Thus, he proposes a proactive language for missiology in Africa thereby underlining Africans as normal and full members of the human family. In the light of the Vatican II mission theology, the new language should be based on the fact that Africans will grow and do better in admiration and not in sympathy. Interestingly, the arguments in this volume opens the space for the on-going discussions in the mission of the church in the era of secularization and post-modernity. Consequently, a new language for missiology in Africa will come from the retrieval and modernization of our African cultural matrix pursued from the point of view of the daily struggles of the Africans themselves for survival which also addresses Africans in the spirit of cooperation.

Featuring the contributions of African scholars and mission practitioners from throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the diaspora – including both men and women, veteran scholars, and fresh new voices – this volume provides a diverse perspective on missiology as understood and practised by African Christians. Engaging such wide-ranging topics as gender violence, globalization, Westernization, peacebuilding, development, Pentecostalism, urban missiology, theological education, and African Christianity in Europe, this volume ambitiously bridges the gap between academic and practitioner perspectives, engaging both theological discourse and the hands-on reality of how God’s mission is taking shape in Africa and beyond. This book offers an empowering look at the work God is accomplishing in and through the African church.

Dictionary of Mission by Karl Muller,Theo Sundermeier,Stephen B. Bevans,Richard H. Bliese Pdf

ÒConceived and developed by two of Europe's most eminent missiologists, in the country where the scientific and sustained study of mission first took shape, [the 'Dictionary of Mission'] represents the finest of the chorus of voices that comprise contemporary missiology . . . The choice of topics and the authors to address them reflects what Christian mission has become: a genuinely worldwide and ecumenical phenomenon. That there would be entries on regional theological developments is indicative of how the world church is developing. A host of other topics here explored show too how the landscape of mission is changing. Taken as a whole, then, the 'Dictionary of Mission' is a road map through this exciting and challenging terrain. --from the Foreword

Sent Forth by Harvey C. Kwiyani Pdf

An African missionary who has served in several Western countries addresses the reality of the need for and the growing presence of African-born missionaries in the West. Kwiyani shows that historically African Christianity has held a missionary in impulse since the days of the early Church, one that continued throughout history in many contexts (including the United States). In our contemporary era, African missionaries witness to the “blessed reflex,” the notion that the continued evangelization of the world will need and profit from the energies of the African churches. Scholars, researchers, and students interested in understanding the current trends within contemporary missiology, in particular the presence and influence of African Christians and missionaries in Europe and North America, will find this book relevant to their work. It will also speak to pastors and congregational leaders who wish to understand how to work effectively with African immigrant Christians showing up in their cities and attending their churches. Finally, the book also speaks to African Christians who wish to understand the current Western mission field and how to be effective missionaries in the West.

Vulnerable Mission: by Jim Harries Pdf

In this compendium, Jim articulates the impact of the nature and shape of the interface between the West and Africa, and how that interface works or does not work. Read on if you are interested in Africa, mission, development, globalisation, communication, linguistics, theology, dependency, or power dynamics in intercultural perspective. The conclusions reached in the fourteen articles in this compendium endorse Jim’s deepening conviction that some Western missionaries and development workers ought to engage in their ministries in Africa and the majority world using indigenous languages and locally available resources. To this end, Jim and some of his missionary colleagues formed the Alliance for Vulnerable Mission in 2007.

A Public Missiology by Gregg Okesson Pdf

How can Christians witness to the complexity of our world? Gregg Okesson shows that local congregations are the primary means of public witness in and for the world. As Christians move back and forth between their churches and their neighborhoods, workplaces, and other public spaces, they weave a thick gospel witness. This introduction to public missiology explains how local congregations can thicken their witness in the public realms where they live, work, and play. Real-life examples from around the world help readers envision approaches to public witness and social change.

A Missiology of the Road by J Kevin Livingston Pdf

David Bosch (1929-1992) was one of the foremost mission theologians of the twentieth century; a prolific scholar, committed church leader and active participant in the global conciliar and evangelical mission movements. His distinctive role in the South African church's struggle against apartheid is less well known, however. After reviewing Bosch's background and exploring key themes in his understanding of mission and evangelism, Livingston explores Bosch's legacy from the perspective of the missionary nature of the church. The church is God's kingdom community, acting as a witness to and instrument of the coming reign of God. The church is God's alternative community, simultaneously set apart from the world but also existing for the sake of the world, exemplifying the radical implications of Christ's new community. It is also God's reconciled and reconciling community, serving as a sign and embodiment of God's love in Christ. For those acquainted with Bosch only as the author of his magisterial Transforming Mission, A Missiology of the Road shows how Bosch integrated his theology and practice in a faithful, contextually relevant way within South Africa and the global church.

Transforming Missiology by Fohle Lygunda li-M Pdf

Dr Fohle Lygunda li-M provides a thorough analysis of missiological teaching in theological institutions in Africa, with special reference to ten Christian universities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His detailed examination of current teaching of mission theory and practice builds a solid foundation for the articulation of a new paradigm of missiological education. In this book, Dr Lygunda presents the case for a transformed approach to raising up seminarians who are equipped to lead indigenous missional churches that will fulfil the Great Commission in their own communities and beyond their national borders.
