Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2016 by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Pdf

The UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2016 is the third of its kind mandated by the United Nations General Assembly. In July 2010, the UNGA adopted the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. The Report covers and provides an overview of patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at the global, regional and national levels, based on trafficking cases detected mainly between 2012 and 2014. Handbook of Sex Trafficking by Lenore Walker,Giselle Gaviria,Kalyani Gopal Pdf

This definitive reference assembles the current knowledge base on the scope and phenomena of sex trafficking as well as best practices for treatment of its survivors. A global feminist framework reflects a profound understanding of the entrenched social inequities and ongoing world events that fuel trafficking, including in its lesser-known forms. Empirically sound insights shed salient light on who buyers and traffickers are, why some survivors become victimizers, and the experiences of victim subpopulations (men, boys, refugees, sexual minorities), as well as emerging trends in prevention and protection, resilience and rehabilitation. These powerful dispatches also challenge readers to consider complex questions found at the intersections of gender, race, socioeconomic status, and politics. A sampling of topics in the Handbook: · An organizational systems view of sex trafficking. · Vulnerability factors when women and girls are trafficked. · Men, boys, and LGBTQ: invisible victims of human trafficking. · Organized crime, gangs, and trafficking. · Human trafficking prevention efforts for kids (NEST). · Treating victims of human trafficking: core therapeutic tasks. · From Trafficked to Safe House (C-SAFE). The Handbook of Sex Trafficking will interest a wide professional audience, particularly mental health workers, legal professionals, and researchers in these and related fields. Public health and law enforcement professionals will also find it an important resource.

IOM Global Database Thematic Research Series by Rebecca Surtees Pdf

To date, trafficking in males has not been given enough consideration in research despite noteworthy signals that it is a violation faced by many males, adults and minors. Often severely exploited male migrants are overlooked as victims of trafficking. The noteworthy number of men exposed to trafficking necessitates assistance tailored to their specific needs and interests. Tailoring of services is required to the specific profile of male victim, not least according to their trafficking experience, whether they are a minor or adult and the family and social conditions to which they will return. Through the lens of trafficking in males (primarily adult men) from Belarus and Ukraine, this study considers male victim's pre-trafficking life (namely their personal, family and socioeconomic background), trafficking experience (from recruitment, through transportation and during exploitation) and post trafficking experience (including assistance and protection needs). We examine, on the one hand, what is known about this less considered profile of trafficked persons and, on the other hand, what can be done to meet their needs, both as a means of assistance and protection. The study draws on primary data collected about 685 trafficked males assisted by IOM and its partners, through IOM's Counter-Trafficking Module Database in Geneva as well as qualitative information from case files and interviews of assisted men. The specific experiences of trafficked males of Belarusian and Ukrainian nationality highlight some general patterns in terms of how trafficking takes place from these countries and, equally, some of the needs and interests of this specific target group. Attention to the gender dimensions of trafficking must be increasingly considered in research and anti-trafficking interventions.

Invisible Victims and the Pursuit of Justice: Analyzing Frequently Victimized Yet Rarely Discussed Populations by Blasdell, Raleigh,Krieger-Sample, Laura,Kilburn, Michelle Pdf

Victims of crime may experience a wide variety of traumas that result in physical, sexual, financial, psychological, emotional, and/or social consequences. While the types of trauma can vary greatly and include lesser-known forms such as vicarious and secondary trauma, identifying and recognizing victims can be complicated. Throughout this book, experts and professionals from academia and the fields of criminal justice, social work, and mental health acknowledge victims historically overlooked by society, political movements, the media, and/or the criminal justice system - we acknowledge the invisible victims. Invisible Victims and the Pursuit of Justice: Analyzing Frequently Victimized Yet Rarely Discussed Populations pioneers the assertion that our view of victims needs to be more inclusive by exploring invisible victims that are rarely, if ever, a focus of discussions in traditional victimology textbooks. To educate the reader and begin working toward positive change, each chapter identifies an invisible victim and provides the background, controversies, issues, solutions, and areas of future research. It is crucial to identify these gaps in the field as some of the most victimized populations remain absent from important dialogue on crime victims. This book is appropriate for a wide range of readership including but not limited to criminologists, victim service providers, psychologists, sociologists, social workers, advocate groups, law enforcement, lawyers, defense attorneys, criminal justice practitioners, academicians, researchers, and students studying criminology, criminal justice, victimology, social work, psychology, and social justice.

Invisible Chains by Benjamin Perrin Pdf

Just outside Toronto, a 14-year-old Canadian girl was auctioned on the internet for men to purchase by the hour. A young woman was taken by slave traders from an African war zone to Edmonton to earn greater profits by exploiting her in prostitution. A gang called Wolfpack recruited teenagers in Quebec and sold them for sex to high-profile men in the community. The global problem of human trafficking is only beginning to be recognized in Canada, even though it has been hidden in plain sight. In Invisible Chains, Benjamin Perrin, an award-winning law professor and policy expert, exposes cases of human trafficking, recording in-depth interviews with people on the front lines—police officers, social workers, and the victims themselves—and bringing to light government records released under access-to-information laws.

Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2018 by United Nations Pdf

This report, which comprises three booklets, provides a comprehensive analysis of the crime of trafficking in persons and how different countries are responding to this crisis. Countries worldwide have been detecting and reporting a larger number of victims and are also convicting more traffickers than ever before. This may well be the result of an increase in the capacity to identify victims over the last few years. While the number of reporting countries did not significantly increase, the number of victims reported in different countries did increase. The trend has unfortunately been growing over the past few years.

The Legacy of Racism for Children by Margaret C. Stevenson,Bette L. Bottoms,Kelly C. Burke Pdf

"The Legacy of Racism for Children: Psychology, Law, and Public Policy is the first volume to review the intersecting implications of psychology, public policy, and law with the goal of understanding and ending the challenges facing racial minority youth in America today. Proceeding roughly from causes to consequences - from early life experiences to adolescent and teen experiences - each chapter focuses on a different domain, explains the laws and policies that create or exacerbate racial disparity in that domain, reviews relevant psychological research and its implications for those laws or policies, and calls for next steps. Chapter authors examine how race and ethnicity intersect with child maltreatment (including child sex trafficking, corporal punishment, and memory for and disclosures of abuse), child dependency court decisions, custody and adoption, familial incarceration, the "school to prison pipeline," police/youth interactions, jurors' perceptions of child and adolescent victims and defendants, and U.S. immigration law and policy"--
